Games Played

Syessence has 117 games and Betnijah has 116. And coaching:

C. Vivian Stringer has 944 wins, 3rd on the all-time list, and 8 behind Sylvia Hatchell, who has 952. She needs 155 wins to tie Pat Summitt, who had 1,098.

She now has 175 Big Ten wins, just one shy of Rene Portland's record. Tying the record against Penn State this weekend would be nice.

very interesting!

I don't know how this happened, but I miscounted Coach Stringer's Big Ten wins - she started the season at 169, and now has 9 more for a total of 178 - so she actually broke Portland's record against Minnesota. I'm very annoyed with myself, but also very happy for her.

OK - if she started the season with 169 Big Ten wins - RU has had 6 Big Ten wins so far - don't they? Where did the 9 come from? What I am missing here?

Is there an updated stats sheet maintained by the sports info director? They can be wrong but another place to check.

Go RU! Beat PSU!

edited to update to include Purdue win

we've played 9 B1G games and are 6-3 hence your 175 total to-date is correct.

Some days I really just can't count. So, in other words, I was wrong to say I wasn't right.

Bek, just curious, The game recap page and your milestone stats have different numbers for Tasha Pointer's all time steals I believe.

I found this in the game recap Davis also moved up the RU all-time steals leaders list. She moved into fourth on the all-time list with 278 career thefts past Matee Ajavaon (2004-08). She need 10 more steals to move into second all-time past Sue Wicks (1984-88) and Liz Hanson (1992-96) and 15 more to become the Scarlet Knights all-time leader surpassing Tasha Pointer (1997-01).

just curios, let me know what you think

It's because I can't subtract. (Actually, what happened was that I forgot to update the number of steals to tie for 2nd, and then added five to the un-updated number to get the number of steals to tie Tasha.)

Current standings:

Tasha 292
Sue/Liz 287
Syessence 278

9 to tie Sue and Liz, 10 to pass them.
14 to tie Tasha, 15 to pass her.

I'll fix it above.

By the way, beating Tasha would be a monumental achievement.

Totally agree if she passes Tasha, I bet Tasha's telling her to slow down she doesnt need anymore haha

One more thing Bek, Do career stats only include regular season games to your knowledge? Or will Esse have possible more opportunities should we make it to post season play as well as the B1G tournament

Not BeK, but career stats are, well, career stats. All "real" games, regular and post-season.

Now, my question for BeK - saw this on the BY but don't know if it is accurate - is Vivian headed for most games coached (D1 I suspect is the qualifier on it)? Someone there suggested that she will bypass Pat, probably very early next season. Now, I don't know really if Pat has coached the most games, it isn't unlikely, given her number of seasons and post season success, OTH, the person could be basing it just on Pat's winning record, which doesn't really mean anything in determining number of games coached. And yes, I'm too lazy to look.

My wife and I were wondering...was Sylvia Hatchell given credit for coaching wins while she was out battling leukemia last year? BTW, really glad that she fought this battle and appears to have been victorious!

KTF - I've never seen a total games coached stat (or at least don't know a source for it), but it wouldn't surprise me if she's close.

manfrer - Apparently Hatchell was given credit for last year's wins, and the North Carolina site lists her as starting the year with 935 wins, which only is possible if you include last year. Although I have sympathy for her situation, I don't really understand it, as she was quite clear that she wasn't coaching at all.

End of regular season update - now with single season milestones

Career milestones

Points

Betnijah has 1,349 points. Since the last update, she has passed Kia, who had 1,329, Tomora Young, who had 1,344 and Shawnetta Stewart, who had 1,346. That puts her in 14th place all time. She needs 64 points to tie Liz Hanson for 13th at 1,413, 66 points to tie Kathy Glutz for 12th at 1,415 and 107 points to tie Tasha Pointer for 11th.

Kahleah has 1,209. She's now tied with Patty Coyle for 24th all time. Since the last update, she's passed April Sykes and Mo Oliver. She needs 17 to tie Julie Salmon for 23rd, 37 to tie Tammy Sutton-Brown for 22nd and 53 to tie Essence for 21st.

Tyler has 961 points. She needs 39 to become the 36th RU player to reach 1,000.

Rebounds

Betnijah has 873, still in 7th. She needs 21 to tie Tanya Hansen for 6th. Sandy Tupurins is 71 boards away at 944.

Blocks

Rachel has 214, and remains in 5th all time. She needs 31 to tie Tanya Hansen for 4th at 245.

Assists

Syessence has 395 assists, and is now 9th all time, having passed Patty Coyle yesterday. This is almost certainly as high as she'll get, since Kristen Foley had 455.

Steals

Syessence now has 289. Yesterday, she passed Liz Hanson and Sue Wicks to move into 2nd all time. She needs just 3 more steals to tie Tasha Pointer for 1st all time, which also would be more steals than anyone on the men's team.

Games Played

Syessence has 126 games and Betnijah has 125. Syessence needs 3 more games and Betnijah needs 4 more games to join the current 6-person tie for 8th place overall at 129 - Ra, Patty Coyle, Patty Delehanty, Tasha, Michelle and April). There's another tie (3-way) for 5th with 130 games, too.

And coaching:

C. Vivian Stringer has 950 wins, 3rd on the all-time list, and 8 behind Sylvia Hatchell, who has 958. She needs 148 wins to tie Pat Summitt, who had 1,098.

She now has 430 wins at Rutgers, which is 4 short of the number earned by Theresa Grentz.

She now has 181 Big Ten wins, and is 5 ahead of Rene Portland atop the all time list.

Single season

Rebounds

Betnijah has 303, which puts her in 10th all time. She needs 1 to tie June Olkowski's 1978-79 season for 9th at 304, 11 to tie Kris Kirchner's 314 in 1980-81 for 8th and 21 to tie Terry Dorner (1981-82) and Regina Howard (1986-87) at 324 for 6th.

Betnijah's rebounding average is 10.8, which would be the 5th-best season ever, ahead of Kathy Glutz (1976-77) at 10.5 and behind Sue Wicks (1987-88) at 12.1.

Steals

Syessence has a nice round 100 for the year. That's the 4th-best season ever, 4 behind Denise Kinney (1977-78) at 104, 7 behind her own season last year at 107 and 17 behind Liz Hanson's all-time best season (1993-94), at 117, which also would beat the most steals in a season by a men's basketball player.

Blocks

Rachel has 66. That's the 8th-best season ever, one ahead of Sue Wicks (1985-86). She's two behind Kia Vaughn (2005-06), who's at 68 and now in 7th, 8 behind LaTonya Johnson (1991-92), who had 74 and now is in 6th, 9 behind Tanya Hansen (1990-91), who had 75 and now is in 5th and 11 behind Sue Wicks (1987-88), who had 77 to sit in 4th.

In case you're wondering, nobody is particularly close to getting in the top 10 in points scored. Cappie's 592 points in 2003-04 is 10th, and the closest anyone is has come so far is Kahleah at 476.

Steals

Syessence
now has 289. Yesterday, she passed Liz Hanson and Sue Wicks to move
into 2nd all time. She needs just 3 more steals to tie Tasha Pointer
for 1st all time, which also would be more steals than anyone on the
men's team.

We were rooting hard for her to get this on senior day. And it wasn't for lack of trying that she didn't. In fact, I think she lost one steal on the stat sheeet when the refs called a shot-clock violation on Indiana after she (IMHO) had taken possession of the ball.

Steals

Syessence has 105. Since the last update, she passed Denise Kinney (1977-8) to move into 3rd on the single-season list. She needs 2 more to tie herself (2013-4) for 2nd with 107 and 12 more to tie Liz Hanson's all-time best season (1993-94), at 117, which also would beat the most steals in a season by a men's basketball player.

Blocks

Rachel has 67, still the 8th-best season ever. She's one behind Kia Vaughn (2005-06), who's at 68 and now in 7th, 7 behind LaTonya Johnson (1991-92), who had 74 and now is in 6th, 8 behind Tanya Hansen (1990-91), who had 75 and now is in 5th and 10 behind Sue Wicks (1987-88), who had 77 to sit in 4th.

I should know this but is Hatchell still coaching or has she retired? Just wondering as that will affect CVS's chances of passing her anytime soon. I sure hope that win #1000 will be at the RAC and that RU makes a real big deal out of it! But at 22-25 wins per season, it's entirely possibly that #1000 could come in a post-season tournament somewhere distant from The Banks.

This begs the question of whether Hatchell ever actually coached in the first place.

Anyway, she's still active, having come back from her cancer treatment. Mysteriously, though, they've given her credit for all of last year's wins, even though she out for treatment the whole time.

A big one tonight for Tyler.

Career milestones

Points

Betnijah has 1,390 points, still in 14th place overall. She needs 23 points to tie Liz Hanson for 13th at 1,413, 25 points to tie Kathy Glutz for 12th at 1,415 and 66 points to tie Tasha Pointer for 11th at 1,456.

Kahleah has 1,260 points. Tonight she passed Tammy Sutton-Brown to move into 22nd all time. She needs 2 more to tie Essence for 21st, 13 to tie Lorrie Lawrence for 20th, 24 to tie Patti Sikorski for 19th and 28 to tie Khadijah for 18th.

Tyler has 1,009 points. Tonight she became the 36th RU player to reach 1,000, and also tied Dawn McCollough for 35th. She needs 18 points to tie Erica Wheeler for 34th, 42 points to tie Kristen Foley for 33rd and 44 points to tie Michelle Campbell for 32nd.

Rebounds

Betnijah has 908, still 6th. Sandy Tupurins is 36 boards away at 944 in 5th.

Blocks

Rachel has 218, and remains in 5th all time. She needs 27 to tie Tanya Hansen for 4th at 245.

Assists

Syessence has 397 assists, still 9th all time. Kristen Foley had 455, a long way away.

Steals

Syessence is the all-time record holder, for both men and women, with 294, 2 ahead of Tasha Pointer's previous record.

Games Played

Syessence and Betnijah now have 128 games. They each need 1 more game to join the current 6-person tie for 8th place overall at 129 - Ra, Patty Coyle, Patty Delehanty, Tasha, Michelle and April). There's another tie (3-way) for 5th with 130 games, too.

And coaching:

C. Vivian Stringer has 952 wins, 3rd on the all-time list, and 8 behind Sylvia Hatchell, who has 960. She needs 146 wins to tie Pat Summitt, who had 1,098.

She now has 432 wins at Rutgers, which is 2 short of the number earned by Theresa Grentz.

She now has 182 Big Ten wins, and is 6 ahead of Rene Portland atop the all time list.

Single season

Rebounds

Betnijah has 338, which puts her in 4th all time, having just passed Sue Wicks and Kia Vaughn. She needs 17 to tie Sandy Tupurins (1976-7) for 3rd with 355.

Betnijah's rebounding average is 10.9, which would be the 5th-best season ever, ahead of Kathy Glutz (1976-77) at 10.5 and behind Sue Wicks (1987-88) at 12.1.

Steals

Syessence has 105. She needs 2 more to tie herself (2013-4) for 2nd with 107 and 12 more to tie Liz Hanson's all-time best season (1993-94), at 117, which also would beat the most steals in a season by a men's basketball player.

Blocks

Rachel has 70, now the 7th-best season ever. She's 4 behind LaTonya Johnson (1991-92), who had 74 and now is in 6th, 5 behind Tanya Hansen (1990-91), who had 75 and 7 behind Sue Wicks (1987-88), who had 77 to sit in 4th.

I wish that I could recover a thread from early last season when Betnijah was averaging a double-double for the season. We were researching whether it had been done before, and I think we determined that we had to go back to the RU teams of the 70's or 80's. (Maybe Sandy Tupurins, not sure.) Since Betnijah didn't finish last season in double-digits for rebounds, we stopped talking about it.

Copper and Scaife will surely finish as top 10 Rutgers scorers based on their scoring averages with Scaife having the potential to be a 2000 point scorer with two more seasons.

"Anyway, she's still active, having come back from her
cancer treatment. Mysteriously, though, they've given her credit for

Wow! Does the NCAA have a policy about this sort of thing? Whoever substituted for her should get those wins. What about Pat Summit? Does her victory total include wins earned while she was out ill? I can't exactly recall at what point during or outside of a season her diagnosis was made public.

What is the projected retirement date for Hatcher?

Thanks.

Does anyone know which basket Tyler reached her milestone on? Anyone? Anyone? Beknighted?

To answer the two questions:

Players who averaged a double-double a game

Every player who's averaged 10 rebounds per game in a season has averaged 10 points per game as well. Conveniently (if not surprisingly), even though season box scores are not available going back nearly this far, all of the players who are on the top rebounds-per-game list also have their points per game stats for those seasons somewhere in the media guide. Here's the list:

Terry Dorner, 1981-82, 19.6 ppg, 10.1 rpg

Kathy Glutz, 1976-77, 15.4, 10.5

Sandy Tupurins, 1976-77, 13.3, 13.7

Sandy Tupurins, 1977-78, 12.1, 13.7

Sue Wicks, 1986-87, 22.0, 12.2

Sue Wicks, 1987-88, 25.6, 12.1

Sue Wicks, 1985-86, 21.8, 10.1
Once again, I stand in awe of Sue Wicks.

Nobody has come close to averaging 10 assists, steals or blocks per game, so this should all of the players who've averaged a double-double.

Tyler's 1,000th point

It appears to have come on a layup with 8:38 left in the game, which broke the 56-56 tie. So her 1,000th point put the team ahead for good.

Last one for 2014-15 (*sigh*). With Tyler, Kahleah and Rachel coming back, there should be lots of milestones next year, too.

Career milestones

Points

Betnijah ended the year with 1,401 points, 14th place overall. She ended up 12 points short of Liz Hanson's 13th place total of 1,413.

Kahleah ended the year with 1,271 points, passing Essence to move into 21st place. Tonight she passed Tammy Sutton-Brown to move into 22nd all time. She is just one point short of Lorrie Lawrence, who's in 20th with 1,272, 13 short of Patti Sikorski in 19th and 17 shy of Khadijah in 18th.

Tyler has 1,025 points, which puts her in 35th all time, having passed Dawn McCollough. She needs 2 points to tie Erica Wheeler for 34th, 26 points to tie Kristen Foley for 33rd and 29 points to tie Michelle Campbell for 32nd.

Rebounds

Betnijah ended the year with 912, good for 6th place all time. Sandy Tupurins is 32 boards away at 944 in 5th.

Blocks

Rachel has 219, and ends the year in 5th all time. She needs 26 to tie Tanya Hansen for 4th at 245. The all time record is 293, held by none other than Sue Wicks. While Rachel would need more blocks than she got this year to break Sue's record, she had a stunning 127 in 2013-14, so she's fully capable of doing it.

Assists

Syessence ended her career with 397 assists, 9th all time. Kristen Foley is 8th with 455.

Steals

Syessence is the all-time record holder, for both men and women, with 294, 2 ahead of Tasha Pointer's previous record.

Games Played

Syessence and Betnijah ended the year with 129 games, and so they joined the now 8-way tie for 8th place overall with Ra, Patty Coyle, Patty Delehanty, Tasha, Michelle and April. They were one game short of the 3-way tie for 5th with 130 games.

Double-doubles

Betnijah becomes the 5th player in Rutgers history to average a double-double for an entire season. It's actually been done 8 times, with Sue Wicks having accomplished it three times and Sandy Tupurins having accomplished it twice.

And coaching:

C. Vivian Stringer has 952 wins, 3rd on the all-time list, and 9 behind Sylvia Hatchell, who has 961.

Single season milestones

Rebounds

Betnijah had 342, 4th all time. She ended up 13 to behind Sandy Tupurins (1976-7), who's in 3rd with 355.

Betnijah's rebounding average was 10.7, the 5th-best season ever, ahead of Kathy Glutz (1976-77) at 10.5 and behind Sue Wicks (1987-88) at 12.1.

Steals

Syessence had 105, 3rd all time, 2 behind her 2013-4 season and 12 behind Liz Hanson's all-time best season (1993-94).

Blocks

Rachel had 71, the 7th-best season ever. She ended up 3 behind LaTonya Johnson (1991-92), who had 74, 4 behind Tanya Hansen (1990-91), who had 75 and 6 behind Sue Wicks (1987-88), who had 77 to sit in 4th. However, she also holds the all-time record with 127, as mentioned above.

Milestones by class

Scoring

Kahleah's 16.3 ppt is the 6th most by a junior, ahead of Joanne Burke's 15.8 in 1979-80. The record is held by Sue Wicks, 22.0 in 1986-87.

Tyler's 14.8 ppt is the 8th most ever by a sophomore, beating out Tanya Hansen's 14.5 in 1989-90. The record is held by Sue Wicks, 21.8 in 1985-86.

Betnijah's 15.8 ppg is the 10th most ever by a senior, pushing Jennie Hall's 15.2 in 1982-83 off the list. You can guess who holds the record with 25.8.

Rebounding

Betnijah's 10.7 rpg is the 2nd most ever by a senior, ahead of Terry Dorner, who had 10.1 in 1981-82 First place, with 12.1 rpg, is (really, do I have to finish this sentence?)

Assists

Syessence's 3.9 assists per game ties her with Liz Hanson for the 8th best apg by a senior.

If Briyona is treated as a senior, then she's actually in 8th with 4 apg, and Syessence slides down to a tie for 9th. If Briyona is treated as a junior, she is 10th, pushing Denise Kenney, Lynn Ust and Matee off the list.
