What is like study hall or lunch?~~~

Seriously, who the phuck comes up with idiotic rules that are enforceable by the NCAA...yet, pedoophilia, lying, cheating, grade inflation / outright academic cheating goes unpunished?

Why do we put up with the NCAA? Why not form another organization that actually does something for the students / the Universities?

PS This includes the clearinghouse that should be shelved into a warehouse somewhere around Secaucus.

The different periods were created to give coaches and recruits breaks. If they did not have them they would either have to be recruiting 24/7/365 or be hounded by recruiters 24/7/365.

You can dissolve the NCAA but the same cast of characters will be running the new version. Some of those small rules are meant to cut cost for schools. That what the majority of the rules are for. If they did not have them smaller schools or those with fewer resources would never be able to keep up. The thing to keep in mind is that the NCAA is run by schools and committees. Each one of the rules were written by an committee of coaches and athletic directors and approved by member schools. The NCAA itself doesn't write the rules. They only govern athletic related matters. If the NCAA dealt with criminal and university wide issues it would simply be to much overhead. They don't have the resources to handle them. There are rules against academic issues if they are athletic related. Not if it is a university wide issue. There are other governing bodies who deal with those issues.

The clearinghouse has to exist unless you want to eliminate entrance requirements. 99.9% of the time it is the individuals own fault. There are over 100,000 new NCAA athletes going through the clearinghouse each year. They don't have the time, money and resources to hold every student who wants to play college sports hand. They have a online calculator and a list of high school classes that are eligible at your high school. Any college bound person should be able to figure it out. It not rocket science and the requirements are minimal. If it should be shelved what do you purpose to replace it? Or do you think there should be no academic requirements?

Contact Period
The Contact Period has minimal restrictions, and just about every type of contact is allowed between the college coach and the high school athlete. You can meet off or on campus, and the coach is allowed to watch an athletic event. Below are the types of contact that are allowed during this NCAA Contact Period:
  • Unofficial Visits
  • Official Visits
  • Off campus / home visits
  • Letters
  • Emails
  • Calls
  • Event viewing / evaluations during your club or high school competition
Evaluation Period
The Evaluation Period on the NCAA Recruiting Calendar is a bit more restrictive than the open Contact Period, and is primarily for the coach to "evaluate" you. The big difference is that the coach cannot have ANY off campus contact with the athlete or parent. Here is what is allowed:
  • Unofficial Visits
  • Official Visits
  • Letters
  • Emails
  • Calls
  • Event viewing / evaluations during your club or high school competition
Quiet Period
The Quiet Period is a restricted time, typically before the National Letter of Intent (NLI) day that prevents a coach from having any off campus viewing or interaction with the athlete and parents. Here is what is allowed during this NCAA Quiet Period:
  • Unofficial Visits
  • Official Visits
  • Letters
  • Emails
  • Calls
Dead Period
The NCAA Dead Period is the most restrictive time for communication between the coach and the high school recruit, and only allows the following:
  • Letters
  • Emails
  • Calls
  • College visits are allowed, but you cannot meet the coaches
