Men’s Lacrosse Headed to No. 12 Army Saturday

It's been two years. Our offense up until 22 was often very good.
Is this true though? ‘22 was an anomaly. We had a near perfect attack with Scott coming into his own at X, Cameron at the lefty spot who had all around game as a dodger and finisher and Barolo as an absolute righty hammer. Excellent defense with Kirst dropping dimes on the outlets and one of the best DMid units in the nation. Offensive middie might have been a weakness but Jacoby turned out to be a monster portal acquisition and Knobloch took his game to the next level. Plus our Dmids were like 1b on offense as they could have started as offensive middies on most teams.

Prior to then we’ve always had talented offensive players but I recall that we struggled in 6 on 6 sets. But we were early innovators in committing to NASCAR offense (as well as plugging holes thru the portal) and that kept us competitive.

Now most teams run some version of NASCAR and are much better at defending it because they see it far more frequently. And everyone has caught up or surpassed us in portal recruiting. We have not adapted. We can no longer rely on transition goals and our settled offense is simply awful.

And I would argue that outside of 2022 it has been consistently bad but our transition offense was superior so it hid many flaws. We consistently have among the lowest shooting percentage in the country year in and year out. That speaks to the fact that we don’t run an offense that creates open looks. We simply rely on hero ball with 5 dudes standing around watching.

This timing coincided with NIL going off the rails, which exposed our fan base's inability and/or lack of desire to play the game with the big boys.

NIL is not being supported by the “regular” fans . The programs that are winning with NIL are essentially riding their 1-3 whales.

Annoying posters on this board keep screaming it’s because our fan base is cheap.
1. We don’t have the history or size of fan base so that’s not going to magically get “willed” into existence
2. People giving 100, 300, or even 1-3k per year are going to make such a little dent. Basically wasting time and resources and breathe even taking about check writers under $25k per year.

"Are More New Jersey Colleges Doomed to Collapse?"

One of the on campus bars held monthly themed costume parties. Best was pimps and hos night. Could you imagine Rutgers leaders tolerating a student run bar open to 18 year olds in on-campus space and female students dressed like streetwalkers all over the place. It happens in England because students are more responsible with alcohol there.

Perhaps somebody got that costume party idea by learning about a night as a Pitino recruit.

A few days ago, a TKR poster asked what makes Pitino so great.

With Rick, it is about the Jimmies and Joes, Xs and Os, and cars and hos. Rick does them all well.

"Are More New Jersey Colleges Doomed to Collapse?"

A few thoughts:

Been back to London several times and of course the food is super when one has the money to afford it. At 20 years old and nearly broke, I survived on residence hall potato fare and late night doner kebabs, a sandwich that would have done huge volume at the grease trucks.

On the drinking, Rutgers excess drinking and related stupid behavior was far worse than college students in England. I played on the Rutgers rugby team and one guy was in a frat and the #1 tradition there - celebrated almost weekly - was to double fist cheap beers then pour more cheap beer on the basement floor and slide around the basement naked. An away game tradition was to attend the postgame booze fest hosted by the home team and loot their stuff.

In contrast, the England rugby postgame custom was to enjoy a drink or two with the other team at the on-campus student-run bars the England universities. I was on the soccer team and the soccer post-game was at our on-campus bar, just our team. Again, moderate drinking. It was packed because UCL fielded 7 soccer teams at the time. Girlfriends would never attend games but would show up at bar.

The only excessive student drinking I witnessed in England was the night when exams ended. What a mess that was.

Rutgers 2025 Football Schedule: Best & Worst Scenarios, Season Prediction

The question is, can the passing game be great against better teams like Oregon Iowa, and Penn State. That is going to be key. Satisfied with our receiving talent but AK47 will be the constraint on how well we do. He wasn’t accurate enough vs USC and Kansas State which is why we lost those games. If he can throw closer to 60%, we’ll be going places.

Overall depth is significantly improved especially at LB.

When did we play K State? Oh nevermind. The bowl game. I was focusing on the main season and had basically forgotten who we drew in the meaningless bowl ha ha. I don’t mean that condescendingly either - it’s nice to go to bowls and fun to win them but with all the opt outs if your not in a meaningful one I just don’t take much from them. I thought he was ok in the bowl game anyway. I didn’t realize he was that inaccurate there - were there a bunch of intentional throw aways?

Wisconsin was really bad accuracy. USC not good. Nebraska game doesn’t count due to weather conditions. Otherwise he was pretty solid this season.

Thank you so much for your dedication and fandom for our beloved University. Rutgers does not have 2 NBA lottery picks. 2 NBA lottery picks came to Rutgers and had there draft status negatively impacted and called into question.

The articles and National media have already begun and expect it to get much worse.

I respect and value your opinion but your optimism may be clouding your judgement.

If you looked at the same season but the young men’s Jersey’s said Michigan or Syracuse on the front and not RU would your unbiased basketball eye say the same thing? Possibly yes but maybe not. No other University would allow this to happen with out consequences.

I politely think you might feel differently. Nice guy (hear that a lot and agree). who is Highly compensated should be held accountable. Pike well not hold his players accountable let’s not compound that mistake by doing the same with our head coach.

Thank you and look forward to a time of meeting you and talking RU hoops over the years.
So much wrong with this. These guys’ draft stock is not in question from any source with integrity. There will always be baiting articles, but Jonathan Givony from ESPN who is by far the leading draft analyst for the last 15+ years has them 2 and 3 as of 3 days ago (even says Bailey may push Harper for #2 with strong play down the stretch). This season didn’t work out, but I bet Pike will be in the Green Room on draft day. That video footage goes a long way, as does the “one call away” to Dylan and Ace as they ascend to stardom in the nba.
