OT: New York Yankees 2024-2025 Off Season Thread

Very true, but gotta be better 1B options out there.
Christian Walker (34 years old, 6.8 WAR)
Pete Alonso (30, 5.0)
Carlos Santana (39, 4.5)
Paul Goldschmidt (37, 4.4)
Ryan O'Hearn (31, 3.2) -- club option
Justin Turner (40, 2.2)
Donovan Solano (37, 2.0)
Wilmer Flores (33, 1.6)
Joey Gallo (31, 0.6) -- mutual option
Anthony Rizzo (35, 0.5)
Ty France (30, 0.3)
Josh Bell (32, 0.2)
Yuli Gurriel (41, -0.5)
Ji Man Choi (34, -0.5)
Rowdy Tellez (30, -1.2)

Walker is the best of the bunch but will cost the most. I could also see Rizzo come back on a one year deal with incentives. This is why they're praying for a kid to come up.

The Big Ten Travels Well: How Rutgers' Athletics Affiliation Means Millions of Dollars For New Brunswick

Like most economic impact studies down this number is likely way over inflated. Because the studies are down with an agenda they use bad assumptions. They love to use assumption that if it wasn’t for that event people wouldn’t have spent the money. So they assume if Fanily A spent $400 on a game if that game didn’t happen they sit at home. In reality likely would have spent that money in other forms of entertainment. They love to assume things like every visiting ticket sold is out of town money when in reality it often local fans of distant teams. They assume every hotel room sold would have been empty otherwise completely ignoring that maybe another even might have filled those rooms but was not held because of the prior event.

Interesting take on the state of Yankee affairs. I didn’t realize they played Sinatra for the Dodgers - that’s as bad as the Fat Joe fiasco. IMO if the Yankees couldn’t get Jay-Z you had to go with Billy Joel.

Fire Schiano!!!

We have some delusional fans with unrealistic expectations
Hard to say what’s realistic or unrealistic when it comes to the final wins/losses this season = VT and UW were great but we almost gave VT away and UW simply played their worst game ever. But watching the last three games has been painful. I’ll cut the D some slack because of key injuries. But the play calling on O makes me want to puke. We are a decent D coordinators dream. So predictable and lack any element of surprise to keep D off-balance.

Fire Schiano!!!

Hyperbole. Rutgers was not even ranked pre season, and T 4-4 the sky is falling for some. Nobody thought RU would beat USC. UCLA is better than their 1-5 record when RU played them. Wisconsin is only WTF game. We have some delusional fans with unrealistic expectations. Here is some perspective.

I wonder how many of those coaches get fired

OT: Syracuse’s New Fieldhouse opening next month

He’s visiting Syracuse because of its field house. He’s visiting Syracuse because Greg is an absolutely horrible coach and bottom 5 offensive minds in the country. So he pulled out of Rutgers and is looking for a viable option for his career
If we had a Fieldhouse, our talent level, especially on our offense, would have been much better

Al, I have hung in there with you for years, but in a couple years, they can have a practice facility the size of two Superdomes and it won’t matter. After the Big Ten, SEC, and Big 12 strip the ACC of all the decent programs, all that will be left will be Syracuse, Wake Forest, and Boston College. I think even Cal-Berkeley and Stanford will swallow their pride and go to the new PAC 8/10 and who knows about SMU. No one will care about Syracuse and their fieldhouse anymore than Tulsa or UMass building a new fieldhouse.
You are not understanding the scope of the problem. Since 2004, we have had better facilities than Syracuse, and this in part allowed us to beat them for most recruits. This year:

- they are likely to finish 8-4 to 9-3
- they have more NIL funds, especially evidenced by giving their qb a good amount
- their qb is on pace to throw for >3700 yards
- we are likely to finish 4-8 to 8-4

If we finish with a losing record, we will have a much weaker value proposition vs Syracuse, and this could affect our ‘26 class

Football Greg Schiano talks UCLA Postgame

You missed the point completely. He wasn’t complaining or using an excuse. Simply stating the low possessions in first half influenced his decision making process .
No I didn’t miss the point. Schiano style of play is to eat clock and limit the other teams possessions (he’s spoken about this multiple times not a secret). The script was flipped and UCLA used his tactic against him and limited his possessions. They knew his offense has an issue scoring. Schianos decision to employ that style of offense was made far in advance. Therefore lack of possession was and is exactly that an excuse.

Nebraska fieldhouse working wonders. Playing in a tough league levels the playing fieldhouse.

If everyone else has a strong Fieldhouse, it won’t provide an advantage. UCLA also has a very nice facility, which opened in 2017.

We are at a disadvantage because almost everyone else has a nicer facility, compared to ours. This puts us at a recruiting disadvantage.

Oregon’s facility was ranked #1, and they are expanding it. No wonder why they are currently ranked #1 in the country.

Basketball Emmanuel Ogbole clips from St. John’s game

I think some fans are underestimating Ogbole bc he doesn't look natural and at times lacks awareness or is a step slow reacting

It's not as bad as some make it out to be and we only need him to play within himself

Defense, rebounding, rim protection, screens, and finish around the rim

He is fast and moves extremely well for someone his size. Sets very good screens. Physically imposing. Sprinted the floor and caught an awkward angled pass from behind in stride and finished with his left hand. That's pretty impressive athleticism and body control for a giant man. The inside outside pass from Dylan to EO to Ace was a smart play

Let's see how he develops. We have a few cupcakes before the Thanksgiving tournament. That should help him get more comfortable and gain some confidence

Indiana Fever fire their Coach

I'm sure if Clark wanted the Fever to keep Sides , she still would be the HC and Caitlin had a say in stay or go based on their relationship .
Stephanie White was hired to help Clark become a great WNBA player by teaching her how to keep her turnovers down and learn to play better defense without taking away from having a aggressive offensive game
White's hire I'm sure Clark was asked about before job was offered and without her OK Indiana would look for someone else that Caitlin approved
I do agree that they checked with Clark - I also think that Sides was likely going to go because it didn't appear that she could develop Clark and the team as well as other coaches out there could. What I don't think is that Clark demanded a coaching change (which does not mean she didn't want one).

As it currently stands, WNBA players really don't have the power that NBA players have. OTH, driving a lot of the coaching changes is the fact that most of the league will be free agents after the next season (as players structured their contracts with the new media contract that comes in 2 seasons in mind) and teams are trying to position themselves to "look attractive" to free agents. I don't think Sides was a positive.
