Who's the Next Sanu, Britt, Caroo, Tim Brown, Teel, Nova, Rice, Leonard, Foster, Thompson, Westerman...

IMO we need to either recruit at that level (or higher)...or portal our way back the good ol' days.

Also, there are many players I'm leaving off e.g. Greene, Ito, Coleman, Harrison, McCourty's etc.
But many played on the same or cross over teams / time lines...

We need another L'ville 2006 moment against tOSU, PSU. Mazed / Confused, Plagiarism State (MSU- Choppin State).

Happy Thanksgiving.

Reasonable Expectations

After leaving the last two home football games in the fourth quarter, because I am getting tired of listening to the opposing teams fans moving down to field level and cheering their team, I thought about what are reasonable expectations for this football team and this coach. We are in the third year of a seven year contract. We had 3 conference wins in 2020 season, 2 in 2021 and 1 so far this season with one to play.

We play against OSU, Mich, PSU, MSU, Indiana, and Maryland. Since we have been in the BIG we have 0 wins against OSU and PSU, and 1 win against Michigan and MSU each. We are slightly more competitive against Indiana and Maryland. I believe we can be more competitive with MSU, Indiana, and, Maryland in the next 4 years. Add in three games against West teams, and three OOC each year and that is our 12 games.

We are not competitive against OSU, Mich, and PSU, so there are three losses each year. In a really good year say we beat all three OOC, all three west teams and MSU, Indiana, and Maryland. That would be a 9-3 record. I think this is the upside longshot. Conversely in a bad year we lose to OSU, Mich, and PSU; lose 2 of three to our remaining East opponents, lose 2 of 3 to our West opponents, and win 2 of our 3 OOC. that is a 4-8 record, similar to this year. An average year would be 7-5 or 6-6. I am basing this on Coach Schiano's performance in the Big East, and so far in his three years in the BIG.

Once USC and UCLA join the conference will realign. I believe the BIG will protect the OSU, Mich, and PSU trio and move either Illinois or Northwestern into the East. Our record will probably stay about the same because we will then be playing only 2 teams from the west. If Wisconsin or Iowa come into the East instead our record will suffer.
,
I think this is a reasonable expectation of our future performance. With the portal and NIL we will not gain any ground on OSU, Mich, and PSU or the better teams in the West, we can only hope to catch up or surpass the other three teams in the East. Feel free to comment.

Another 5-7 bowl season???

According to Brett McMurphy, the projection is that there is the possibility of openings for five 5-7 teams going to bowl games this year. He still doesn't pick us to be one of the five.

Using Wilson’s ratings, I’m projecting there will be 79 bowl-eligible teams to fill 84 bowl spots. That means, five 5-7 teams would need a “bowl waiver” to participate in a bowl.
Excluding the 2020 pandemic season, there have never been more than three losing teams that played in a bowl game in one season. So, we’re on pace to have a record number of losing teams in bowl games. Based on the bowl system needing five 5-7 teams to fill the openings, I’m currently projecting those teams as Iowa, Kansas, Miami, Michigan State and Texas Tech.
As the bowls get closer, the NCAA will clarify exactly how it will determine the pecking order of 5-7 teams — it will most likely be based on the Academic Progress Rate (APR) rankings.

FB Recruiting 2023 Ramsey HS defensive back Joey Lis commits to Rutgers

Following a visit to campus on Monday, 2023 Ramsey High School CB Joey Lis has committed to Rutgers as a PWO.

From the Desk of Pat Hobbs on NIL

Maybe the wailing and gnashing of teeth can stop?

Rutgers Nation,

It has been 18 months since the NCAA issued its initial guidance with respect to allowing student athletes to benefit financially from the use of their name, image, and likeness (NIL). During that time, we’ve built the R Edge infrastructure to support our student-athletes in their efforts. We have engaged several third-party entities like Opendorse, INFLCR and BrandR to assist our students. We continue to meet with individuals and organizations to determine how they might also support our student athletes. Many of our student athletes have secured significant opportunities as a result.

Recently the NCAA issued additional guidance which allows universities greater ability to encourage their fanbases to support student athletes in these endeavors. The rules continue to prohibit Rutgers and its employees from representing student-athletes or negotiating deals on their behalf but provides new avenues for us to work with you to assist our student-athletes with their NIL activities. Rutgers Nation is a passionate fanbase. Together we are writing the next great chapter. I know you want to support our Scarlet Knights in any way you can. I encourage you to explore ways in which you, your business, or your contacts might benefit from engaging our student athletes in NIL opportunities, either directly, through collectives such as The Knights of the Raritan and The Knight Society, or otherwise. My compliance team stands ready to assist you in navigating this new and evolving landscape. Visit our R Edge website at ScarletKnights.com/NIL to learn more.

It is an exciting time to be a Scarlet Knight. Our student-athletes know they are receiving a world-class education at Rutgers while they compete at the highest level in the athletic arena. I have long said that our student-athletes are our greatest ambassadors, they can be yours as well. Let’s do everything we can to support our student-athletes. Go RU!
