Expectations are important. We are likely to be 3-9 in 2022 before turning the corner

I know people dont like to hear this but we are going to take a step back and experience some growing pains next year before we take a leap forward in 2023 an imo compete for a rose bowl bid in 2024. You have to realize that with the earlier signing period, schianos first real class was realistically 2021 and its gonna take a couple years for kids to develop.

After this seasons we lose a lot of upper classmen and will have young pups replacing them who will take their licks and grow throughout the year. I only post this in order to make sure were cognizant of whats likely ahead next year. Next year is a true rebuild year imo. The schedule is incredibly tough

Portal needs

Now that the season is officially over let’s debate on portal needs. To me our biggest areas of need are:
QB even is Gavin pans out and it’s debatable. Simon is almost guaranteed to leave and Vedral is done. Even if they offer a HS QB and get him somehow in this class we’ll need a good veteran.
Oline: we only lose Direnzo but we have no proven depth. Young guys are a plenty but only one has played so far
WR: long and Cruk is about it. No one else is even worth discussing. Serious need here. At least two.
TE: maybe but I’m curious about what Konopka and Higgins can do next year with a real TE coach.
Interior DL: our guys are just way too small and weak. Tired of watching them get pushed around 1:1 like children. We need another Dwomfour type plug and play.

Ask this question to the mods now let’s open it up.

Who are the five players you build this team around this year?

All I ask is not to get into we suck, Greg sucks, we are never going to be good etc etc……. Plenty of other threads for that
Let us just see who you think are the five players you build the team around.

My Five in no particular order

1. Gavin
2. SBV
3. Powell
4. Lewis
5. Bailey

Let’s see who ya got.

Chris Gotterup on the Big Tour This Week

RSM Classic in cold St Simons island, Ga,

Tourney being played on 2 courses. Chris played the course averaging +.5, the other is -1.5.

He shot a -5, 65 which currently places him T4. Another recent college player, Cole Hammer from the U of Texas, leads at 8 under. Chris received a ton of TV time although they screwed up, saying he was the Big EAST, not Big TEN player of the year, His irons were really dialed in but the putting issues came up again, missing Birdie putts of 8, 6, and 7 feet on his last 3 holes. Before that he was putting well.

Mods: earlier in week you thought Nunzio trending in direction for OC

What is your take after PSU game? Does Greg chalk it up to great PSU D ( Maryland could not score last week and their QB threw for only 74 yards)? Does he look at it as the playcalling was good enough but the execution was horrible on all aspects of the offense? Or……..is it what I lean towards which is other then getting Kyle to run hard last week, Nunzio just is not getting it done?

Thanks and looking forward to your take.

Tolling Bells

I saw the thread regarding the train horn and it made me think about my own peeve. It appears that the ominous tolling of the bells occurs on every third down regardless of the situation or who possesses the ball. While I do like the usage when we are on defense and it is a third and LONG and OUTSIDE of our red zone, I do hate its use when we are on offense and in an unfavorable position on the field. Yesterday we were on offense on a third (and somewhat manageable for a competent offense) but DEEP in our own territory and sure enough the bells tolled. When this situation arises, I always wonder, who is that bell tolling for?

A Pathetic Performance For The Ages

That is how Senior Day 2022 will be remembered . This is an all-time classic comedy of errors . Pathetic and embarrassing performance for a program that never misses an opportunity to disappoint.
This is a low point and that is saying something. This goes down as one of the all time Pathetic performances. No excuses for what happened out there

1 yard line and pass - WTF

For the life of me I don’t understand that play call. Take a QB who is young and interception prone and playing against a D where he is hurried on virtually every play and yet you call a first down pass play from your own 1 at a time the game is still within reach. In what universe does this make sense. Taking a safety makes more sense than that - ugh!
