Rough Saturday night in the Big Ten

Minnesota barely beats Omaha 68-64. It’s a one-man band up there with Dawson Garcia scoring 24 points.

Nebraska barely beats Bethune-Cookman 63-58 as the Huskers shot 19-55 (4-22). (Gavin with 3 points FYI).

Northwestern loses at Dayton 71-66 after holding a 32-24 lead at halftime. Nick Martinelli (32 points) shouldering the load without injured Brooks Barnhizer, and with Ty Berry struggling again (0 points on 0-5 shooting) as the primary SG.

Washington loses at Nevada 63-53. Great Osobor was not so great, with just 3 points on 0-7 shooting.

Before last night, the Big Ten was 27-1, with the lone loss being #22 UCLA losing at home 72-64 to New Mexico on Friday night. The Bruins had a woeful shooting night (20-55, 5-23) and had a whopping 21 turnovers.

Just one bad night, I know.

Dylan - Blood, sweat and tears

I haven’t seen this called out (except buried in the annals of the game thread)

How about Dylan absolutely diving into the out of bounds to save an errant pass and a possession?

That dude has some dog in him! And more than that, he’s got pride. You don’t do that unless you’ve got pride.

It looks to me like he’s just putting it all out there. His blood and sweat so far. Let’s see if the tears come when it’s all said and done too (and, to be clear, I mean tears of exultation when he gets us to the mountain top)

Minutes Distribution

People always get mad at me for these threads because there’s so many nuances we can’t account for making it kinda silly. People also like to break minutes down in different ways, but I enjoy it and it highlights that we just don’t have enough guard minutes to go around when everyone is healthy.

This is for big games that we need to win - let’s say NCAA tournament for arguments sake:

Harper & Bailey = 34 minutes
Sommerville = 26 minutes
Hayes & Martini = 20 minutes
Derkack & JWill = 18 minutes
Acuff = 16 minutes
Ogbole = 8 minutes
Davis = 6 minutes

PG: Harper (34), JWill (6)
SG: JWill (12), Acuff (16), Derkack (6), Davis (6)
SF: Martini (8), Hayes (20), Derkack (12)
PF: Ace (34), Martini (6)
C: Sommerville (26), Ogbole (8), Martini (6)

Acuff and JMike are the biggest question marks - otherwise I think this is pretty ideal.

CFP Quandry

Assuming that Indiana loses to Ohio St and the B10 Playoff is Oregon-Ohio St, does an 11-1 Indiana team deserve to get in over

Penn St 11-1. Biggest Win Wisconsin/USC

Army - Undefeated

FUND - terrible loss, soft schedule

2 loss teams like Georgia, Bama, Ole Miss, Tennessee
Loser of ACC Playoff of Miami/Clemson

Hoping 4 teams from B10, 4 from SEC, 1 from B12 and 1 from ACC...Would like to see 2 G5 like Army or Boise get in, but if ND beats Army in 2 weeks, they will get the last spot

Is there a bowl eligibility conspiracy in the BiG?

Looking at the BiG standings, there are already 7 bowl eligible teams, 5 additional teams with 5 wins and there are an additional five teams with 4 wins.

It looks like the conference is sending 4 teams into the new playoffs. Is it looking to paint the bowl $eason with BiG teams? If so, is this an understanding that trickles down to the officiating crewsin the last 3 weeks?

How would you feel about upgrading the stadium bleachers with seat backs?

I was walking around the stadium during half time thinking about this. I don't think we need to add seats for a long long time. Adding boxes on the West side...meh not 100% sure because Provident Bank isn't sold out. I thought actually shrinking capacity 5% but adding seat backs that you see at NFL/MLB (not in the student section) would be an interesting idea and certainly offer a better fan experience. It beats the bleachers and the metal backs we have now. Thoughts?

Our radio broadcast - brutal

I usually don’t listen because I am either watching the game one way or the other . But yesterday had to do some driving and listened on the radio - it was brutal . I only listened part of the second and third quarters . So maybe other parts of the game were better.

Here were some lowlights ;
Big pass down the field . Carlin starts screaming big play to KJ duff. Duff!!
Then legrand starts gushing about duff again . He’s coming along and made a great play. Then some silence …Carlin : oh we just got word from Fooch it was not duff on the catch, it was Ian Strong ! Fooch can see it better since he’s on the field. Yikes !

Minnesota has the ball at the rutgers 17….Carlin : there is a pass in the flat to Minnesota RB and he walks in for the touchdown . Wait this is a radio. I am not watching it . Carlin tell listener what happened between the 17 and endzone

End of first half . Rutgers has the ball . No or little mention of how many timeouts Minnesota has left , as this affects rutgers strategy.

Third quarter . Minnesota completed an 8 or 9 yard pass - wasn’t sure exactly. Rutgers is flagged for defensive holding. The penalty is 10 yards. Teel says Minnesota should decline the pentalty to get their quarterback credit for the passing yards. Because he’s a former QB and that’s what he would want. Of course , Minnesota wants the yards and accepts the penalty . Yikes !

Not much analyzing legrand and teel. There was a possession where Rutgers threw the ball every play. Legrand said “I can’t remember a run on this drive “. Tell the listener why they are throwing it every play does the defense have 8 guys in the box ? Is it because Kyle isn’t playing ?
I didn’t understand this - tell the listener why !

Listen I don’t expect some great broadcast . I get it that it’s not Bob Poppa and Carl banks . But it shouldn’t sound like I am tuning into the Piscataway high school station to listen to the JV soccer game.

Hopefully this crew will understand the listener isn’t watching the game . We need to know the score, timeouts , where the ball is and give us the right guy who made the play.
