Will Harper Survive His Drives

After two games, his ability to get to the hoop is very impressive. Probably the best part of his offensive game.
Many times the only way to stop him is to foul. He has already taken a number of tough fouls.
These fouls will get tougher as we step up in competition. Fortunately he is very physically mature for his age but you have to wonder about the wear and tear.

Pike has said

continually that “the starting lineup” is just for the fans. Ogbole is clearly not the Number 1 at his position. Why, then is he “starting?” 1. In BIG play we cannot afford to have Somerville get two fouls with 14 minutes in the first half. Ogbole taking away minutes from Somerville is a way to try to guard against that. 2. Sommerville as a freshman will hit a wall going forward if he is overused. 3. Sitting on the bench for several minutes each half will give him a chance to observe the action and get the benefit of interacting with the coaches before entering the fray. 4. Ogbole needs all the minutes he can get if we expect him to improve.

Reactions: Knight Shift

A few quick observations from last night

1. I know Pike won’t make a change to the starting lineup while we are winning, but we all know that (a) Lathan is ready to go earlier than expected and (b) Ogbole just doesn’t have it. Massive elephant in the room there. We also need to start ponying up for next year so Lathan stays.
2. If I’m pike, I’m breathing a sigh of relief that I got away with not playing Ace last night - all accounts being that he was being overly cautious and he could have played. . I get where pike is coming from, but it’s time for Ace to play starting this Friday.
3. Acuff - yeah, he’s coming off an injury and I know he was a top ten scorer in the country. But looks a step slow and might be the odd man out until he finds his footing.
4. It is clear j Mike has improved and had the key bucket down the stretch. But he’s still a small guard and pike needs to choose his spots where he can thrive.
5. Is it wrong I expected a little more from martini in terms if interior play and rebounding? Maybe it is. Still early though.
6. Austin Johnson has a future as a nationally known announcer. He’s that good.

OT: WNBA on track to lose $40 million

Probably not a good idea to go on strike if your employer is hemorrhaging cash like that

OT: NJ playing catch up in the Craft Beer business

NJ, with few exceptions, was a late starter to the Craft Beer wave. However, that has changed and even more on the way.

Distribution

EO and LS, except for fouls/injuries, will take up close to all 40 mins (call it 36) at the C or whatever choose to call it.
DH and Ace together about 68 mins.
Jeremiah: 26
So those are my guesses. That's big minutes at four spots.
The rest of the rotation:

JMike
Acuff
Dercack
Hayes
Martini

We all know that much of minute distribution for these five will be circumstantial. So, a part A and a part B.

Part A: How would each be best used?

Part B: Your estimate for average MPG for each. I'm gonna assume 130/200 for EO, LS, Ace, Dylan, Jeremiah. For you math wizzes, that leaves 70 mins,

I'll go like this, re, Part B

JMichael: 18 mins
Acuff (biggest unknown): 14 mins
Dercack: 18
Hayes: 12
Martini: 8 mins

And I'm still over by four minutes!

Rutgers is Trapped in the Cavern of Discord

1. Immediately when I saw the attendance at this game 20 minutes until kickoff I knew we were doomed. Absolutely pathetic. Unless something drastically changes, we will never have a big time fanbase that consistently shows up.

2. Abysmal performance on the field by all. Totally disgusting. Finally, it seems as if the boo’s are socially acceptable. Good.

3. Rutgers is doomed. Unless something drastic changes in the world of NIL, we will never ever be able to consistently compete. A developmental program can not survive in this climate.

4. Schiano is a false prophet.
4a* My season tickets have resulted in false profit*

5. After attending almost every home game and dozens of away games since 2002, I think my Rutgers football fanatic obsession needs to come to an end. Fair weather fandom is calling my name. I can’t keep this up.

Hoops thoughts through 2 games

1) Acuff needs to get more minutes and shake off the rust. If we are going to compete at the top of the B10 I really think his scoring punch is going to be needed.

2) Can't have Jmike and Derkack on the floor together for extended minutes. I really like both their games individually and get Pike will always favor defense down the stretch, but when you have both of them with Jwill there's just no shooting. There were too many times Dylan made a nice kick out or they just had open shots in general and would either be missed badly or not taken at all.

3) Martini and Hayes need to put up more 3's. Need more than 3 attempts from Hayes. We saw how close this game was largely due to the 3 point differential.

4) Keep getting Sommerville this experience. He's been better than I think anyone anticipated this early but its super important to keep getting him these 25 mpg against grown men in real game situations before the competition rises.

5) Would like for Pike to go to an all offense lineup once in a while that puts Ace and Dylan in the most optimal position to succeed. Harper Acuff Hayes Martini Sommerville is a lineup we haven't seen at all and I think could really do damage. Play some defense by offense especially when the defense wasn't working in the 1st half. Obviously sub in Ace for either Martini or Sommerville when he's back.

6) Need to be much better on the glass. Thought today was better with the team rebounding effort. I would expect a lot of Ace Martini Sommerville/Ogbole lineups when he's back.

QB was the difference Today

Defense obviously played great but athan having the ability to stretch the field made a huge difference. Stat line may not show it but athan was chucking bombs on the money and giving our guys a chance. It forced minny to keep an extra defender deep more often than they wanted opening some running lanes. We should kept chucking fades but got away from them a little in the 3rd.

Furthermore, minnys qb had an absolute noodle arm. Theres a reason he was playing fcs ball. Kid had zero zip on his balls and no arm strength. Charlie checkdown should be his name. Anything outside the hashes I started covering my ears waiting to hear shotguns go off.

Whata game. 1 more til bowl eligibility!
