Rutgers vs Maryland - the matchups

Maryland

F - Reese - 6'9 230 sophomore. 10 points 7. boards. High percentage efficient inside presence shooting 69% from the field this season. After dealing with Edey, this guy isn't going to intimidate Cliff at all

F - Scott - 6'8 230 senior. 12 and 6 at 42%, 29% from 3. I thought he would shoot a bit higher percentage from 3 but it looks like his 44% year was an outlier with every other year right around 30. He will get the Mag treatment which will likely lead to a poor game and a few turnovers

G - Young - 6'1 185 senior. 14/4/3 41%, 29% from 3 is below his career averages. Will be giving up a lot of size to Cam. This is a mismatch he can exploit in the post if we want or force a switch for him on Paul where he would have zero chance. Can he make things happen with quickness on the other end to offset?

G - Hart - 6'8 205 senior. 12/5 54%, 39% from 3. Caleb time. Expect to see much worse numbers tonight

G - Carey 6'5 187 senior 7/3 31%, 25% from 3. This looks to be the weakest link. Time for Paul to use the confidence boost from late game Purdue and his healthy shoulder and come out and dominate this fool

6'3 guard Martinez off the bench looks to be their bench scoring option

Don't really see a bad matchup for us. Scott has a bit of weight on Mag but he has less athleticism and likes chucking 3's. Will he try to throw his weight around down low or hang out at the 3 point line?

We will have a pretty significant size advantage for both Paul and Cam. Both coming off very good games. No reason it shouldn't continue

For all the Greg Conspiracy Theorists

By no means am I happy with the job that Greg has done or the recruiting and timing for an OC hire

But to have a 7 page thread gaslighted by someone who is consistently wrong is just ridiculous

A) Our all time best OL - Anthony Davis - who is one of the few to speak out against Greg 1.0 made ammends with the program and has said he respects Greg and he was just immature at the time

B) we haven't lost a single player ( that we wanted to keep) to the portal this year ( if Greg was so demanding in a losing cause, it's easy to think of at least 5 guys that could have easily left and gotten paid)

C) O'Neal made a move that worked out well for him and given his position, it's likely either Gleeson or the OL coach was equally if not more involved in the decision

D) Pitt has trashed talked RU long before Ti got there, and given that they are one of our biggest recruiting rivals, it wouldn't be surprising if Narduzzi is just trolling us

The OP has a winning percentage of about .800 for his bad takes on situations, he is the same guy who had Nov 27 and Dec 4 spelled out as exact dates we would have an OC hire. There is a reason why he doesn't allow people to see his past posts but will bump his posts from 5 years ago on the one occasion he turned out to be correct

Much like his recent post about how the real estate market is bullish in 2023, this will turn out the same way

Coach Prime

I'm not kidding.

How much would it take to get him in a year or 2?

The way I see it - college football is 90% about recruiting. Tell me he couldn't pull classes and market like crazy the NYC area. He may be the only huge name ever willing to come here if we got him quickly. He's climbing the collegiate ladder. Big Ten school and a challenge. I think he'd bite. Bet he could get some NIL funds incoming too.

We've got to get wayyy outside the box or this program is shot

Big Refs(All Refs) Home Cooking?

I just saw the foul disparity for the Northwestern/Illinois game; In fouls Illinois had 29 and Northwestern 17; The foul shooting disparity was even greater Northwestern shot 40 free throws to Illinois 10!!
Now we all know about Rutgers Purdue so my question is why should the home team get the calls so to speak!!
Shouldn't the games be refereed without any bias home court advantage; this is totally empirical and I have no stats but it sure seems like this more often than not and to me that is just wrong; these refs are getting paid a lot of money and there should not be this type of bias

Trap Game

As others have stated this could be a trap game. Certainly agree with that. We're coming off a huge win at Number1 Purdue & could have a let down. Right after Maryland we have Ohio State. Could be a temptation to subconsciously be looking ahead a bit.
So possible trap on both ends.
It will take real mental discipline & toughness to overcome the trap. IMO this team is a team that can do it. GO RU!

If you're not going to donate, you'll just have to be patient

With this incoming class, we finally have the enough material to be successful on offense. But these kids are going to need time to develop and you can't accelerate that:
  • OL need to get stronger in the weight room and learn technique, and take repititions so that they make fewer mistakes; we will have a good offense
when our linemen, especially our Guards, can successfully drive block, and get to the 2nd level, against better teams. This doesn't happen overnight.
  • WRs need to get stronger in the weight room and learn to run good routes, adjust their routes when opponents are blitzing, adjust to the flight of the ball and demonstrate effective ball skills, and most importantly, adjust to the physicality of college football, especially when pressed. This is probably the toughest aspect that kids have to get used to, because they’re used to having a free release
  • Quarterbacks need to better read defenses by watching a ton of film and work on mechanics to ensure better accuracy
  • Need a few tight ends from the transfer portal
Of course, we can accelerate things by acquiring the players that can get us over the hump.
  • 400 people donating $5,000 would give us a warchest of $2M, which would be a good start. this is the minimum of what's needed, imo
If people aren't going to donate, we're just going to have to be patient. Right now, it's looking like 2025 will be our payoff year. Till then, we'll probably perform in a 4-8 to 6-6 range. Though the 2023 schedule is particularly brutal, and we might slip to 3-9, unless kids, like Wimsatt step up and show significant improvement.

Post hoc ergo propter hoc

Translation: After this, therefore because of this.

It's what is known as a logical fallacy, i.e. it's not true. More specifically, it's a joke - an accusation that points to a lack of critical thinking.

Unfortunately, in today's world, too many people seem to believe that post hoc ergo propter hoc is some sort of scientific rule. It's not. A willingness to believe that correlation implies causation has become the secret handshake of the unthinking.

Florida NIL Bill

Allows Universities in Florida to directly compensate athletes. This should be fun.

"Rep. Chip LaMarca filed a bill proposal this week that intends to update and expand Florida’s preexisting Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) law that allows collegiate student-athletes to receive compensation.

Under the bill, a university or college would be permitted to direct compensation to student-athletes. The proposal also exempts an institution or member of a coaching staff from liability for damages to an athlete’s ability to earn compensation."
