    OT: Funny Business

Victor Borge, an absolute genius. His Opera Singer routine has me laughing out loud every time I watch it. Also another terrific skit with a marvelous master of comedy was "Can it core a apple," featuring Jackie Gleason.

Turns out that researchers at Mt. Sinai Hospital are in trials with a formula that they think can reduce covid-19 symptoms to that of a common cold. So if their trials are successful, and we find a cure for the common cold, we'll be in great shape...

    OT: Hiroshima 75 Years Ago

It had to be greater than that. Because the Nazis alone killed 3 million Polish Jews as well as 2.5 non-Jewish Poles. Add in the Russian atrocities and the number probably exceeds 6 million.

    OT: Hiroshima 75 Years Ago

It's astonishing, considering the actions of Nazi Germany, that people single out Dresden for pity and sympathy. Germany, prior and during WWII, was undoubtedly the most despicable and ruthless nation ever to inhabit the planet. Without true justification nor provocation, they engaged in an...

OT: More fun 2020 stuff! NC hit with strongest quake in over 100 years

[ I was in bed at the time, mellowing out on a lazy Sunday summer morning. Initially, when the bed began shaking, I turned to say something to my girlfriend. It was when I realized that there was no one else in the bed that I became concerned, thinking that an intruder had broken into the...

OT: More fun 2020 stuff! NC hit with strongest quake in over 100 years

I'm in the northwest corner of SC -- and felt it this morning. (I was wondering why my house was shaking.). Initially, I thought someone had broken into my home and then was relieved when two of my neighbors called.

    OT: Hiroshima 75 Years Ago

It's hard to shed tears for Dresden, when the Nazis, Japanese and their allies were responsible for the deaths of 30-40 million people and the enslavement of millions more. They mercilessly bombed the hell out of England, Poland, France, Russia, China and so many other innocent nations. Were...

    OT: Hiroshima 75 Years Ago

This is true -- and a factor in the bombing decision. In allegiance to the Emperor, the Japs tortured, enslaved and murdered millions of innocent people.

OT: Value of a fallen chestnut tree

Coincidence. Right now, I'm reading Richard Powers' Pulitzer-Prize winning novel "The Overstory." The background theme that binds this superb novel is a chestnut tree. The author describes, in detail, how valuable these trees are.

OT: Best concert you have ever been to?

Fleetwood Mac, Jones Beach Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Nassau Coliseum Elton John, Caesar's Palace (Vegas) They were all fantastic. But the show that absolutely took my breath away was a free concert in Central Park, featuring two marvelous groups from years gone by: The Ink Spots and The Platters.

PAC-12 Players Threaten to Opt out of Season?

Power is intoxicating. Once you get a taste of it, you want more. And more. Expect events like this to continue. The wonderful age of college football -- as an enjoyable escape from our troubles and frustrations -- is over.

    OT: Good Obscure Movies

Glad you mentioned the dancing scene in Witness. Kelly McGillis's rendition of character in that scene is one of the most dramatic, intense and powerful on-camera acting performances I have ever witnessed (pun intended). Wordlessly, as she and Harrison Ford slow-danced (her for the first time...
