Might take a little more than that. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

    Pretty impressive heavyweight

I saw him wrestle in person at Flo's WNO event in October 2015. Gable was just a sophomore, and a very doughy sophomore at that, but he handled Jordan Wood of Lehigh (senior at the time) fairly easily. As the video clip shows, he is very nimble for a big guy. His body looks a lot different...

Tonight 8pm: Tan Tom vs Pale Cael, aka Penn St vs Ohio St

I think you are looking at it through Rutgers glasses. It's why Suriano was wrestling in a meaningless dual against Northwestern this weekend when he could have been wrestling in one of the best duals ever on Saturday night. It's a failure to understand basic stuff. Rutgers logic.

I thought we weren't parsing? Can't play fair?

Tonight 8pm: Tan Tom vs Pale Cael, aka Penn St vs Ohio St

Thanks, Bill. I'm pretty sure Goodale could have made a run at Cassar if he had recognized the potential, although maybe he did try to get him. But Cassar did choose to walk on at Penn State. He's another good argument against the concept that Cael can't develop wrestlers. I always thought...

Rutgers vs Penn State / Match Thread

Okay. Let's not parse. The takedown battle was 38-13, basically a 3-1 ratio. That's called being dominated. I'm not really disputing it was the best Rutgers wrestled all year. It may be. But when the takedown battle is lost that decisively and 9 of the 13 takedowns come from one...

Some people think duals are important. Check out the Penn State/Ohio State match Saturday night.

Massa is at either 3 or 4 consecutive losses. Yes, free fall.

Rutgers vs Penn State / Match Thread

That's just sad. Rutgers won one match against an overmatched guy that has won one bout all year (against an F&M backup) and won one close match. It kept a couple close that didn't project to be that close. Take away Suriano, and how many takedowns did Rutgers get all day? Less than 5? Yep...

Maybe I am at a disadvantage because I haven't been drinking, but I don't understand how Marinelli beating a lower-ranked wrestler who is in free-fall at the moment puts anything in perspective, much less Lewis's loss to him.

    Rutgers vs PSU

I don't know, they seemed pretty intimidated by record crowds against Ohio State and Oklahoma State last season. Pretty much turned tail and ran. Oops. They defeated both opponents handily. Both crowds were much larger than what will be at the former RAC on Sunday.

Weekend Upsets with WrestleStat - 01/22/2018

Massa was ranked ahead of IMar before the weekend? Tough to top the ranking difference of Renteria/DelVecchio.

    wrestling news

Freshman year of high school, Grey, Caldwell and Jimmy Conroy of South Plainfield were in the same weight class in region 3 and finished 1.2,3. Iirc, they finished 1,2,3 at states also and wound up only losing to each other during their high school careers. Edit - I was incorrect. Mattia...

    wrestling news

That list reinforces my wonderment at how poorly the top NJ wrestlers have done at the collegiate level in this time period. Zero NCAA championships so far for the top five? Ashnault the only one to place? I'm sure Suriano will hit the podium during his career, but boy. It's a mystery to me...

Nick Suriano and technical falls/major decisions

The short answer is that he just isn't a pinner. He looks for points primarily through takedowns and backpoints that he happens upon through his takedowns. On top, he doesn't seemed to be geared towards turning and pinning his opponents. But, yes, it's harder to pin in college.

Wrestling-Rutgers vs North Carolina / Match Thread

Somebody even older than me? :) Near as I can tell, the length of matches was changed to 9 minutes in 1938. When I wrestled in college in the 1970s, the matches were 2-3-3, although my coach used to have us wrestle 3-3-3 in practice - 3 times in a row. 3-2-2 matches began in 1982...

    Men's lacrosse championship at Rentschler in '21 & '22

I'll take it slowly for you. I used to watch regularly and attended many NCAA championships, going back to 1978. The last one I attended was in Philadelphia in 2005. The game changed and became slower, so I stopped watching regularly and stopped attending. I check in every year to see if...

    My assessment of OSU/RU...

See, I think more of the Rutgers team than you guys. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: I figured 3 wins with Nato being out. I agree about DelVecchio. I disagree about OSU/PSU, though. I think Penn State, as I outlined above, will sweep 149-184 and wind up with more bonus points. Ohio State...
