Football 10 game conference only schedule coming

Predicted this and other conferences will follow suit......

- In Conference
- Conference Champions
- No Playoffs
- No NC

I will sign up for this any day if it means we get some semblance of a season! It's better than nothing. If it's as rumored a 10 game season and other conferences follow suit then LFG!!

Now fingers crossed it actually happens.

Sounds like MSU in Lincoln is Nebraska’s game. RU at Wisconsin for yours

Very well thought out plan by the conference. Universal and uniform covid testing administered by the conference. That is the only way this has a chance at working.

This plan does not guarantee that any games will be played, but it provides the best chance to start and to keep playing, in my view.

Also, apparently, this will apply to all Big Ten fall sports. They will be played under these same rules (conference games only etc.).

Disagree, you will get playoffs and bowls, that is a lot of TV money to leave on the table and by late Dec/Jan there might be some significant developments regarding the virus.

So you're saying its not ok for Wisconsin to play ND at Lambeau Field during the year, but it will be ok for them to play in a bowl game. uhuh

Okay. fine. Not arguing.

How does this help?

Limiting liability?
Allows B1G teams to follow specific protocols that each team will know their opponents will follow?
saves money (somehow?)
just makes a smaller universe of things to worry about?

I dont disagree - I'm just trying to understand the argument that this is what they announced....

We are facing uncertain and unprecedented times, and the health, safety and wellness of our student-athletes, coaches, game officials, and others associated with our sports programs and campuses remain our number one priority.

To that end, the Big Ten Conference announced today that if the Conference is able to participate in fall sports (men’s and women’s cross country, field hockey, football, men’s and women’s soccer, and women’s volleyball) based on medical advice, it will move to Conference-only schedules in those sports. Details for these sports will be released at a later date, while decisions on sports not listed above will continue to be evaluated. By limiting competition to other Big Ten institutions, the Conference will have the greatest flexibility to adjust its own operations throughout the season and make quick decisions in real-time based on the most current evolving medical advice and the fluid nature of the pandemic.

This decision was made following many thoughtful conversations over several months between the Big Ten Council of Presidents and Chancellors, Directors of Athletics, Conference Office staff, and medical experts including the Big Ten Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases and the Big Ten Sports Medicine Committee.

In addition, the Conference announced that summer athletic activities will continue to be voluntary in all sports currently permitted to engage in such activities. Furthermore, Big Ten student-athletes who choose not to participate in intercollegiate athletics at any time during the summer and/or the 2020-21 academic year due to concerns about COVID-19 will continue to have their scholarship honored by their institution and will remain in good standing with their team.

While Big Ten member institutions continue to rely on the most up-to-date medical information to establish the best protocols for voluntary workouts on their campuses, in compliance with local and state regulations, the Conference is working with the Big Ten Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases and the Big Ten Sports Medicine Committee to finalize Conference-wide protocols.

As we continue to focus on how to play this season in a safe and responsible way, based on the best advice of medical experts, we are also prepared not to play in order to ensure the health, safety and wellness of our student-athletes should the circumstances so dictate.

Maybe Syracuse can be persuaded to come here on 9/11 next year, making it part of an area observance with the Mets-Yanks that night.Perhaps Game Day could come here,a fly over,a visit by the President, etc.

It helps for several reasons. Yes, to your point on protocols. That's a big one, and the Big Ten itself can administer covid tests to all athletes in a consistent and above board manner. Probably just as big is having one decision maker with total control. If games need to be moved and rescheduled, the Big Ten can coordinate everything very quickly. It could shift opponents as needed, reschedule games, or even change the rules of distancing as things go. For example, the big ten can now schedule as it wants to, and now really has bought time that wouldn't otherwise exist if teams were playing non-conference games.

The Big Ten has access to a very talented pool of medical experts in many fields. It can use them to inform its actions and adjust things easily in real time. From an athletic point of view, it can do these things in a manner that is as uniform and fair as possible.

Finally, the Big Ten has the financial resources to make whatever it wants to plan happen. For example, whatever testing is implemented, the Big Ten can pay for it.

There is still a good chance that there will be no fall sports. However, this plan gives fall sports the best chance of occurring.

Sucks to be an independent right now

The ACC already announced previously that it would assist ND with scheduling as ND requests. ND could probably play 10 or zero ACC games this fall as they want to.

BYU and some others may not be so lucky.

Do we have to buy out the Monmouth game now?

I would hope that all game contracts like this have a force majeure clause. Games are cancelled every year due to weather events after all. 9/11 was also relatively recent and there was a week with no games at all at that time.
