Rutgers Head Coach J. WIlder Tasker was born on June 25, 1887 and died on March 14, 1974. He was the fifth oldest coach in Rutgers history at his first game. Only Frank Burns, John Bateman, Doug Graber and Terry Shea were older at their initial games. He compiled a 31-27-5 record in 7 seasons from 1931-37.
During his reign, he had the head cheerleader bring in Rutgers first cannon (1931) and nicknamed "The Little Brass Cannon." Today's cannon is Rutgers third in history.
He coached at Connecticut and William & Mary before Rutgers and compiled a lifetime record of 67-52-11. He is the last man Knute Rockne recommended for a head coaching position at Rutgers before Rockne unexpectedly died in a plane crash in 1931.
