This has been quite an interesting week. On one side we have a message board full of people who believe that we have a stellar recruiting class and firing Flood will destroy that. On the other, we have the results on the field and posters who are resigned to the fact that only 1 or 2 of our players on the roster would even start for OSU. So which one is it boys and girls? Do we forgo this "stellar" recruiting class who will all leave for a coach who will bring in better recruiting classes or is the risk of losing Russo and Pollack good enough to keep HCKF?

I really like this recruiting class, but we can't make another hire to save a recruiting class. We did this once before and its not really looking so good right now. I believe flood will get one more year to prove that he can coach on this level and that he learned from his mistakes this year. But in the future our coaching can't be based on who can keep a recruiting class together.

Not to worry. They're not replacing Flood anytime soon.
I just hope we can limit the decommits this year.

After the last three does it really matter if we have one more subpar recruiting class? You honestly think that some of these kids are sticking to their commitment when we finish 4-8/5-7??

Yes. Do you really think any of them will stick around if our staff is let go?

Great, let's keep one class - likely to end up high 40's - to save THIS staff. Also, odds we lose guys as the losses add up, sorry to be the bearer of overly obvious news.

What's obvious Nuts is the key guys in the '16 class have professed their loyalty to Flood. Yes, you can take that with a grain of salt but it appears there's a much greater chance they go elsewhere if he goes than if he stays.

The fire Flood crew says it shouldn't matter, the Flood supporters say it will matter down the road. Me? I don't know who's right so I'll just keep watching the show. Someone pass the popcorn.

Who cares. Bring in a better coach like Schiano or Pelini. I couldn't care less if some of our 2016 class decommit because Flood leaves to be honest. It's not like we're gonna lose out on any can't miss 5 star recruits here...

One of our high-profile recruits has said that if Flood goes, the high-profile recruits in this class are gone.

This is not 2nd hand information.

The thing everyone needs to reconcile is how okay they are with that. Because it is now my considered opinion that a coaching search may well be in our future.

Take it for whatever it's worth.

I'm okay with that. We made Flood HC to keep a top 25 class together. No ONE should be advocating to keep flood so that we can keep a top 40 class together. That is just silly.

What everyone forgets is that, what, 12, 13, 14 kids? all made the same type of comments in 2013, right before they all de-committed.

To be 100% honest while it's great to have kids who want to play for your coach, IMHO, it's better to have kids who are committing to RUTGERS to play for RUTGERS. Coaches come and go, all the time, everywhere.

No other school that terminated their coach even brings up the recruits. Most of the Miami, USC, Maryland's recruits will stay because of the school. Michigan lost many recruits when Hoke left but Harbaugh brought in a better recruiting class in the first year and second year hit it out of the park.

Only at Rutgers would we consider keeping around a incompetent staff to save one recruiting class. It worked out so well for us last time. If the high profile recruits want to leave, let them leave...They guys should be recruited to play for Rutgers not Flood, he is not the program. We shouldn't be make important decision based on a want a few 18 years olds who might play for this program think...

We need to not be shortsighted (again) and hire someone that would be good for the long-term growth of the program. No coach, player, or staff member is bigger than the program, we need to find someone that can fix this team and make it respectable. Flood ruined our shining characteristic of our team (that we run a clean and disciplined program). Keeping him to make a couple of 18 years old happy would be ridiculous IMO. Recruits will come and go, that is not our biggest issue right now. There are a lot of things that need to be fixed, and if we can find the right person recruits will want to play here, no one will care about flood once a new coach is hired.

^^^This any new Coach should have a following of kids that will now come to Rutgers since Flood is gone it works both ways otherwise you picked the wrong guy

I do find one thing interesting.

People say that Flood is a bad recruiter, that he should be able to get kids to come play for him. When folks focus on players that we didn't get, the problem is Flood's inability to recruit.

But those same people, in advocating for Flood to be fired, say that commits should be committed to the school, not the coach.

I'm very OK with that

Whether Russo is here is irrelevant if it requires Flood who will sit him while Laviano gains "experience" or subject our running backs to some bureaucratic rotation.

Flood has ruined high star Schiano recruits, just imagine when he gets to the guys he stole from Old Dominion....

IMHO "closing" and getting recruits to sign, for your school/team/program, is part of the guy's damn job, a MAJOR part, hence, you obviously want a "closer," and one the kids like/love is great, too, but I want kids who are also coming here for Rutgers, and aren't going to run away like a bunch of little girls because we fire a guy (for both on and off the field issues...).

Well, I really don't think this is a great class. It better than Flood last 2 classes. We are now ranked 43th and will be close to 50th by Feb even if we kept everyone. That's number 11 out of 14 in the Big Ten. We beat out Purdue, Indiana, and Illinois.

Remember all those "experts" and the bs they spewed about the GREAT class this was going to be? "NJ Dream Team" lol...

This is a halfway decent recruiting class coming in. There ARE players that would play for OSU-Russo, Rene to name two. However as a whole this will keep us middle of the road, not at the top. To be honest until we get the full share from the league I don't expect any coach no matter who it is to do much better than middle of the road.

Tell that RECRUIT we don't want a KF guy but a RUTGERS GUY. BYE BY..

The people who defend their "right to bitch" all the time don't want to hear it, but it seems obvious, to me at least, that the non-stop discussion on here about firing Flood absolutely has to hurt his ability to recruit and keep recruits. That people cannot see this, or admit it surprises me.

This is the internet age. Kids today turn to the internet first for all information. Anyone looking for "inside" information about the program on the internet is going to wind up here.

This is new. Who exactly did Flood ruin?

Yup, it's all our fault that Flood can't keep top recruits at home, no question.

Read my post again. The "right to bitch" crowd always makes that argument. "Its Flood's job to recruit, so I should be able to say whatever I want." I didn't say its all yours or anyone's fault. Certainly, he has his own shortcomings as far as recruiting goes...we are in agreement there.

What I said was that the fact that the most prominent "insider" site on Rutgers athletics contains virtually non-stop conversation about why Flood should be fired can't help his efforts. I also said the fact that people won't admit this, surprises me.

Do you deny that it has any impact? Recruits obviously come to the Rivals sites....its where they are all ranked.

I think Flood's inability to keep us from being blown out, his inability to manage the program, and his inability to follow the rules hurts his ability to recruit more than anything thats said on this board.

Flood has always struggled with recruiting, which is one of the reasons his job is in jeopardy, to try to blame that on fans and message boards is just not realistic. Flood had a pattern of mediocrity/failure long before fans started turning on him.

Okay my bad for misreading you there, I admittedly was on a call with a client, and probably should have responded after getting off instead!

Listen, if a kid is worried that fans don't like a HC - which, btw, happens at 98% of the schools in the nation, pretty much every year - I'm not really sure he's ready for high-level college football to be quite honest AND, when kids start dropping in big #'s, because of "message boards," you let me know.

Huh? Rene is coming here only because he couldn't go to Ohio State.

The question was could he play for Ohio State. Just because they ran out of schollies for his position doesn't mean he is not talented enough to play there.
