2018 Chris Doherty on an unofficial today

Capable of shooting from the perimeter as a PF, similar floor game to Warren Washington....Washington is the player with more upside, but Doherty had an offer earlier in the process, via Jay Young.....California is recruiting both Warren Washington and Doherty....

Just off short video clip Washington a ton better IMO

Doherty with a meager offer list according to Rivals.

He would be one of those guys where you just have to trust the HC.

Very different players. Washington has more upside and is longer and a better shooter. Doherty with work in the weigh room could be a true old school power forward that bangs down low and does the dirty work hitting the boards. Also seems to have good court vision and is a good passer.

Doesn't look like a Big Ten 4 man to me-----narrow shoulders and limited athleticism.

Then again what do I know .

Notre Dame is also scouting him. Doherty would be a great player in the big ten. He has shown he is highly capable in both HS and AAU ball. He averaged 14 and 16 in AAU.

More than sold. It would be terrific for the staff to land this kid.

Hope he lands at RU if they want him.

Have never seen his name associated at ND in terms of a recruit.

We'll see.

Really really want Washington, he could be a top 100 player by the next Rivals update.

I don't know about the rivals ranking or not...but I love this kids game from what I have seen and want him badly as one of those coveted "high post four men"

Washington would be a home run add to this program. If we can land this guy it brings us another step closer to NCAAs.

I used to live and work in Marlborough back in the late 70's early 80's.Tough gritty town .Lots of liquor and drugs and women who liked / loved both.I can assure you of 2 things about this kid. He will be a hard ass on the court and will speak in an accent that most of us will not understand. Kind of like Mark Fidrych or Mark Bavaro.Took me 2 years to figure it out..I hope we get him.

Based on what?

Not saying it is impossible but if he is in the Top 100 in the next update it would be a miraculous debut. He wasn't even on our rankings worksheet for the 2018 class during our last update, and that cut off at 180 names

Maybe he was #181? Did you check the back of the last page?:)

Were any Rutgers recruits other than Mathis & Doucoure on that list?

Things can change :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I do not know the full list of Rutgers recruits, so I don't know the answer to your question.

Btw, Doucoure was not on the worksheet because he reclassified into the 2017 class.

Great Player in the Big 10 Player? I would love to see the tape you looked at and saw that. I'm intrigued.

There is a reason Notre Dame is scouting him. Moreover, the NE is Rutgers playground. You never saw players like the Wisconsin center succeed in the big? Another case of fans knowing more than the coaches I am sure. Not a tape, it's a stat.

Kid is not flashy, but he gets the job done. Tough, has no reverse gear, won't back down from anyone.

There is a kid that played for BC years ago named Curley, has similar attributes from what I can see in game footage. Tough kid that can cause teams fits underneath. Not sure of this kid's height, heard 6'7" and 6'9".

Curley was 6'10 and an NBA player .

Look none of us knows more than the people who make a living doing this and if RU offers this kid then obviously they want him.

But just from a short tape view I had he struck me as a banger who wasn't overly athletic and could give you 10-12 minutes and 3-4 fouls.

You recruit nothing but role players and you're going to get rolled in the Big Ten.

RU needs better than that IMO. They need a big who can score because the other guys have them.

As to " ND scouted him " well yeah maybe but everyone who is 6'6 or bigger gets scouted. Personally I would be shocked if ND offered him.

Then again we beat Rhody on a kid 4 years ago who was a 6'4 4 man and he's the best player in the ACC.

This staff helped CJ Gettys, a non-descipt low major big, develop into a serviceable Big 10 player. I have never seen a tape of Doherty, but I am "all in" on this staff identifying the kind of kids who can help the program.

I am talking about the kid in recent history. I forget his name.

Jay Young would love a kid who plays with his intensity. As long as you can keep the intensity going, and not let it wreck you, you could have a potential really good player.

Comparing the two:

Doherty- Comes in, physical, has the mindset that is really hard to create if a kid doesn't have it. By sophmore year, might be pf 1b, gives you 6 and 5. Impresses with his physicality, ability to score close to basket, and not a player a lot of kids want to go against. Maybe not a star, but a kid who will do what is asked of him and more.

Washington- has better vision IMO, but not the mindset that Jay Young would love to have. Doesn't seem overly physical. Impresses with his passing ability, long arms, and ability to shoot from farther out.

It is clear what Young wants. I am fine with either. I don't think the big ten would be a poor fit for Doherty. He is a division 1 player.

Getting what the other guys have is not always an option. Luckily, the staff as RU is great and can get kids under radar, who some people might not think is great, but get them to another level.

He is athletic. A lot of people see him very highly on the NERR site. We'll see what happens.

Okay, I was just asking for more information on your comment. When I hear someone state that a recruit would be a "Great Player in the Big 10", that gets my attention and I want to know more about him. Are you basing that solely on his 16 and 14 stats ?

No. He is the type of recruit Young would love to have. Long arms, athletic, will get in the heads of opponents, give great energy.

You don't see kids with his mindset that often. I apologize, Choppin. I just see posters question kids before they even look at the player, or their history. You are not one of them, though. It doesn't seem appropriate when it happens.

And here's a heads up-------athletic he's not.

When the recruit or target we are pursuing has a lower rating Russ finds less holes in his game than he does with the higher rated kids.... ;)

By following what type of player the staff is recruiting, and how he coaches post players. Clear trends.

He's been offered. Can you provide more information about his game? I trust the coaches, and the site where people have seen him.

Hey...if he is one of those scrappy type of guys that works hard and that just gets it done....I'm on in.

He also has skill. Well see what happens. I could see this kid having a 12 and 8 type of stat line career wherever he goes.

Well, Doherty does struggle to defend guys in space and I wouldn't call him fast, but I like him.
