Nobody stole a spot from Army. Army accepted an invitation to The Independence Bowl back in October. After Saturday's games there was a massive opt out by many programs (like Rutgers) to pass on any post season play. So in the end The Independence Bowl had no opponent for Army and cancelled the Bowl. By then all bowls were filled. Most not knowing that Army was back in play.
Their best shot would be as a fill in to a team that has to back out of a bowl because of Covid.

What I think is terrible is that some of the PAC 12 teams backed out because they particularly didn't want to play against Army's wishbone saying they don't have time to prepare. In my eyes that equates to "we're afraid we'll lose." I love what Monken said, "If we got a Dec. 31 bowl game, if you call us on the 29th, we'll have those guys flying there on the 30th,"

Another Monken quote: "The bottom line is there were enough people who kept saying, 'No, we don't want to play Army, we don't want to play Army,'" Monken said. "And I'm sure they don't want to have one week to get ready for the option [offense] or whatever, but our players, we've got guys on our team that wouldn't be invited as walk-ons to the teams we're getting ready to play. We've got guys from California, they didn't have a Pac-12 walk-on offer, and they are starting for us."

My second favorite college coach.

Go Army!!!!

3:30 p.m. today ESPN- famous Idaho Potato Bowl: Tulane vs. Nevada. Tulane is a fun team to watch and well-coached.

7 p.m.- Boca Raton Bowl: UCF vs. BYU-- should be interesting. BYU fell down the bowl ladder after losing to Coastal Carolina.

Look at Army...12 game season...a bowl...

funny what leadership that’s not afraid of its own shadow can do with a little planning and contingencies built in

Do you wake up every morning, piss in a bowl of Cheerios and say -this is for you Warren? Really. Do what you want, but please don't try to compare the best military academy football program to a 14 team football conference spanning a big chunk of the country, with teams in cities and 10's of thousands of students and faculty and managing the various constituencies in a pandemic. It sounds really silly.

What do you have to say about Air Force Academy playing 6 games?

Army planned to have their bowl game cancelled??. Then have Tennessee get Covid suddenly?? Opening the door for Army to take that spot?? Wow that is great planning 🙄

From who cares to much watch.
I know every year people complain about there being too many obscure bowls and I knew that would still be the case this year (even more so given the circumstances), but I still enjoy watching the games and having them on at odd times when I get home from work. I'm glad that some are still being played this year.

Hawaii is a fun team. They used to do a haka in pregame but NZ got mad. Lots of academy coaches came from Hawaii and Paul Johnson
