FB Recruiting 2025 DE Chase Linton decommits from Rutgers Football

When I saw his build I didn't see him as a DE but as a LB/DE rusher.
GA likes specimens on DL (Travon Walker 6' 5" 272 lb )
Seem that's what GA sees him as after running 4.6 40

"He was timed electronically in the 4.6 range and that number grabbed Georgia’s attention.

When he returned to UGA last month, he worked out again. There were different drills on his second visit. Shuttle drills. Other linebacker drills...

“It was really exciting for a time and then after like five days had passed and I started getting hit up by other schools,” Linton said. “Now, I was like ‘God I’m right back into it.’”

“They say they like him as a ‘Jack’ backer and a third-and-long go-get the quarterback kind of guy,” North Atlanta coach Jamie Aull said. “They feel like with his athleticism and speed and being able to bend the corner and his length, that he’s an instant pass rush guy.”

He said talking to other teams while being committed bothered him so he de-comitted to be able to talk . Seems like a conscientious kid and I know being close to home was a thing for him.

“It’s just really hard to think about other schools if a commitment means no talking or visits,” he told DawgNation on Saturday.

He basically felt it wasn’t right to consider or talk to other schools while he was still committed.

“Exactly,” he said. “It’s been wearing on me.”

This sort of thing is why I wait until deep winter to pay attention to signings.

bummer, but $#!t happens when a verbal gets an offer he wants more .
Wish him an injury free career and get a degree, as for athletic success??
Let the fans of the program hew commits to worry about that.

If he had decommitted from UGA to RU would you be singing his praises?

This is the new norm…can’t fault a kid for doing what he thinks is right for him. He owed RU no loyalty…or UGA for that matter.

Wonder how many Jersey kids decommitted when the original commit was to an OOS school and RU subsequently offers.

He is a hiccup. Hope Greg pulls any offer. Wish him nothing but the best. Nothing personal. But we aren't a safe school. Make a decision and live by it or don't make a commitment. Hope Greg teaches him a life lesson.

It’s a business decision, and although it’s a significant loss, it’s hard to blame the kid

That said, Gregg has every right now to pull a scholarship and be looking elsewhere, it’s a business and he needs to do what’s best for him just as Gregg needs to do what’s best for Rutgers

I like the different opinions of Rutgers within the fanbase.

We have both:
  • We are the sisters of the poor hoping for scraps from the real programs. Linton is our prized recruit but will never play for a legit program like Georgia and be recruited over next year
  • Rutgers isn’t anyone’s safety school. HC GS had to pull his offer for even entertaining an offer from Georgia.

It’s a little bit of both for all
Schools, except Georgia and the very top school respective situations

When you get into a position to have a program like Kirby has, you can call shots and dictate whether people will be able to entertain different offers

I don’t know if he still does it, but when Clemson was rolling, Dave had a rule that once you commit to Clemson , you do not look elsewhere

If you do, your scholarship is terminated

*** I’ll make the caveat that exceptional players get preferential treatment, I doubt he would’ve pulled Trevor Lawrence scholarship if he decided to take a visit elsewhere

Way to sugarcoat the loss.
I don't think you're reading my post correctly. I was responding to your point thay he'll be a backup there and a starter here. Maybe. I don't think you or me have a good idea of what this kid can or cannot do. Unless you are some "small schools in UGA" football recruiting expert. My point is if a kid doesn't THINK he can be the best - that's a real problem. Selling early playing time is all well and good - but you seem to be saying he should pick us since he won't ever play there. Which is pretty silly given he is what - 17? And seems to have some freakish measurables.

Rutgers Debbie Downers are just insufferable. They truly are

This isn’t Boston College we’re losing him to.

It’s #1 Georgia. Recent National Champion. His home state. Entire defense practically goes pro, Georgia

We may get there too, but knocking a kid for staying home at Georgia is absurd

Next man up 👍

Player didn't sign-up with GA.
He said he felt guilty talking to other teams while under a "verbal" with RU so he loosened the knot.
Seems like a good kid.
Being a southern player still in HS and getting offers from GA has to be pretty big there.
Nobody who follow cfb thinks a HS verbal a year before graduation is a blood oath

Agree with this. I actually think he's handled this about as well as anybody could. I'm sure as soon as UGA offered OSU/Mich/PSU et went crazy over him. Whatever happens best of luck to him.

B F D !!! who cares.. next. He doesn't care about RU, don't have to care about him. Not first, not last....
just get another one Schiano 🎵Man !!!

Here's the thing. As good as UGA is, if Linton's mentality was to stick with us because he didn't think he could start there, we wouldn't want him anyway.
If his mentality was Rutgers is my safety pick until something else comes along we shouldn’t want him /offered him anyway.

Some crazy takes in here. Lol
First- yes, it sucks
But then- hard to blame the kid and this is how it is before signing day.
Maybe he just shouldn’t have given a verbal as Greg would have held his spot regardless.

The “pull his offer” comments crack me up too.
If he says to GS- hey coach, after talking to those schools, I realize I really want to be at Rutgers- do you think Greg should say “nope, not gonna do it” lol

On the flip side, Greg wants players to buy fully into Rutgers. I'm not sure he's willing to take someone who wavered/decommitted due to the risk of him repeating it when the next suitor comes down the road. Talent is talent, but if Greg sees it as a waste of time, why bother holding the offer open?

I’ll go out on a limb to say if a kid stays classy and rated this high- that offer would stay open or they will find a way to make it work if needed
