WTF? These quotes are terrible.
At least with other commits it’s about them blowing up and drawing higher level offers and interest.

“I felt it was best for me to take more visits to make sure I was finding the offense that is best for my skill set.”

"So there isn't a school that prompted me to do this. This was more about Rutgers, me, and whether this was still the right fit for my skill set. I'm back to the drawing board. ”

Look, his name is Gavin. Gavin W, a running QB, his ship sailed to Kentucky. Gavin Rupp--Gone.
If your kid was named Gavin and a QB, would you question the decision? I would not.

Future cast has him going to WVU 75%. Neal Brown is on the hot seat.

As to your question about the other coach named Brown, shit happens. Not going to lose a wink of sleep over it.

Given the transient nature of the college landscape, nobody should be losing their shit over a 2026 commit. Or 2025. Or a 2024 player transferring. "Commit" doesn't mean committed, it means I kinda like you if you currently serve my purposes or whims, or someone else pays me more.

Smart move on his part. Can't believe that any QB worth his salt would want to play in Schiano's run heavy conservative offense. The team's performance recently also would influence his decision.
Have we been run heavy this year? Or is that your auto reply?

Yes. We are still one of the most run heavy offenses in the country.
Slightly less run heavy than last year (which I believe is your point) but still run heavy.

Recruiting QBs is overrated in the portal era.

This is a great point.
Unlike most other positions, only 1 gets on the field at a time.
There isn't any meaningful rotation for significant development.

Since there is no more 1 year sit out - it makes sense to attempt to reload at QB more frequently.
Bring in someone who has already developed on the field at a lower level.
Or who is a higher level talent and likely needs less development than what we currently get recruit.

The idea of "well Surace will sit for 2 years behind AK. Start as a sophomore with minimal expectations and then by his junior or senior year we can expect him to really get it" is just very outdated for teams looking to win consistently.

Had to check. RU passes 44% of the time this year. OSU is at 46%.

Correct. So we are still a run heavy offense. Not sure your point though.

That we can be run heavy because OSU is also run heavy?

The difference is OSU is much better when they pass. They are nearly better than everyone.
So they can pass it fewer but they make every pass count.

An easy argument could be made OSU should be passing even more.

Yards per pass attempt:
OSU: 9.4 (t-#6)
Rutgers: 6.9 (t-#84)

OSU is also at the top of yards per rush attempt
5.5 yards (t-13th).
So no matter what they do - it's great.
We are t-70th with 4.2 yards per rush.

It also skews the numbers when your 3rd and 4th quarters are normally garbage time when you are just running the ball up the middle to end the game sooner.

He is a pro style and 3 stars. Is this really a big loss?
Agreed, however, what really bothers me is when the same posters who take this attitude when these kids decommit post on this site when they commit how great they are and how Schiano is kicking ass on the recruiting trail and we are going to start competing for conference championships, blah, blah, blah. Not saying you are one of those individuals, but there are plenty out there like that who post on this site.

In other words, Kirk Cirrocca and his offense is not a fit for me. I can do better elsewhere.

Had a feeling this was going to happen. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Let’s stop blaming Kirk for the team’s offensive failings. Greggie actively pursued Kirk for the OC job knowing exactly what he’d be getting. He also grossly overpaid for a mediocre talent to lure him away from Minnesota.

As with all the other failings of this team, $7 mm /year conservative-to-a-fault Greggie’s fingerprints are all over it.

Didn’t KC recruit him?

Probably more about on field results to date. Offense is the only side the ball with a pulse the last 2 games.

QB is a cornerstone commit in traditional recruiting. Sucks to lose because they are typically the cheerleader who helps bring other kids in. The way the portal is now. I don’t know why anybody recruits a high school quarterback unless they are elite and capable of starting as a freshman or sophomore. Better to bring in an adult to play.

This is why‘s offense needs to evolve. When we are renting players for a year or two, it shouldn’t take two or three years to master the offense….
