Last week at Indiana we had two fourth and 1's and blew them off the line both times for about 3 yard gains. This week with OSU we go for it on 4th and 1 and blow them off the line for a 3 yard gain. Later we are at 3rd and 2 from the 40, and we pass against an extremely highly rated pass defense. Incomplete and punt. Where is the intelligence?? This was 4 down territory but I don't think our coaches understand the concept.

Norries would have gone for it...Flood just doesn't get it. Same as the ND game in the Pinstripe Bowl when he didn't go for the TD and kicked a short FG. Flood thinks he can play these big teams conservative and play D and hang in the game. He is lost.

Flood went for it on 4th and 1 vs OSU also earlier in the game. For whatever reason he didn't go for it there. I thought he would. Was surprising. At that time though it was only 7-0 OSU and our D was playing solid. The punt after that also was inches from being downed at the 1 also if you recall.

Discussed already, but the better approach was two running plays, the second run if the first one did not get you all you need... Not a pass then punt.....

Even so, we had a long way ro go for a td, another shot a a field goal was certainly possible if the drive stalls

Even if we got a field goal it would have kept the game a bit more interesting ..... We should have hit the first one, the second one makes it 7-6...... Yeah what if, what if.....

The thing with Ohio State is that they are going to push teams around later on, the game slips away anyway,... But it would have been nice to have a 14-6 half time score, possibly

We showed no guts or desire to win the game on that decision. I was so mad at the time. James ran twice in a row and gained 8 yards. We had 3rd and 2 on the 40 and we passed incomplete. I was telling my two brother in laws that we should have run it on 3rd and 4th to get the first. After the incomplete I said we must go for it otherwise Ohio State might just run it down our throat and make it 14-0. It really showed me that we were just trying to stay close. We showed no confidence in our offense after we were moving the ball. My one brother in law said the punt was the correct call. My other brother in law sided with me. I said what did we have to lose. Ohio State was #1 in the country and we were only losing 7-0 and were on the O S 40. We should never have passed on 3rd down. James was getting yards on the offensive runs in that series. That call and the missed 28 yard field goal were complete deflators.

the guy saying the punt was the correct call is disregarding the bad call on third down....if we had rushed it on 3rd and gotten within 1/2 a yard, for example, going for it becomes
a better bet.

There is never any urgency in the coaching style. Never a get on the ball and go mentality. It is always get the play call in late rush to the line and hope for the best. Need a more decisive agenda. Running on third would have been a better indication of a clear agenda. It was 4 down territory. Not saying this series determined the outcome but it did more to deflate the crowd than any series after. It also took a little out of the sails of the team as well. Body language definitely changed after that series. Kids want to play for risk takers and for people that put them in the best situation to succeed on the field. Flood does neither.

I was furious when we threw the ball on that play. I was literally freaking out in the stands. It made absolutely no sense to pass there.

It's not actually the pass that was atrocious. It was the empty backfield which tipped off the D. And punting from the 40 was just as pathetic.

Shame we don't have a real coach or staff.

The day that RU ever upsets a number one, or a top team, will be the day the head coach takes a number of chances trying to MAKE it happen, instead of WAITING for it to happen during a game

By punting you are hoping to get into a low scoring, field position, defensive battle with Ohio State..... Chances of the entire game unfolding as a low scoring affair were slim.....

. On the other hand, any time we could get inside their 40, you should use all 4 downs trying to score.... Getting inside the 40 is hard enough, gotta try to make it count
