5 - 7 team to a bowl game?

Some of you may recall that I mentioned this 2 weeks ago.

It's not an ideal situation, but given what has happened to us this year it may not be as farcical than it normally would be.In any event,we'll have a better idea after this week's results.

I don't even like 6-6 teams being "rewarded" with a bowl game. 5-7 teams, getting a bowl bid, is absolutely pathetic IMHO. Also, with ALL the off-season stuff kids do, on their own, do 15 extra practice sessions REALLY make that much of a difference in "the long run" Jelly? Or does better talent do that? Food for thought.
Of course it doesnt. Coaches think it does, because everyone tends to think that their job is super important (oh and it also helps sell the idea of losing money to play a Sun Belt team in some second rate city pre-Christmas.)

Hey, half of those Sun Belt destinations are far from second rate destinations in December : Orlando and New Orleans.

Montgomery, AL on Dec 19 or Mobile, AL on Dec 23.... I will give you those ones as second rate.

Let's just beat Wisconsin tomorrow and Army and Maryland so we end up bowling in Dallas instead.

Flood would also get a $25,000 bonus for going to a bowl at 5-7 & getting blown out by some gimmicky Sunbelt coach auditioning for a better job on national TV.

Your employees must love you. Do the bare minimum or even less and get patted on the back for a job well done. Participation trophies for everyone!
Who said anything about a pat on the back. If the team gets invited to a bowl at 5-7, we should turn it down? Don't be ridiculous. What I said was " posters here bitch about everything. We should take whatever we get.

And by the way, my employees do love me and produce!

Sure you "take it" but that doesn't make it any less pathetic. I've been saying for years now that the bowl system should be reduced to where only one third of the FBS can earn one because, IMHO, even 6-6 teams getting "rewarded" is just ridiculous. This is supposed to be a reward, not a chance for an awful team to reap the same benefits that an undefeated team gets to reap, in terms of extra practices.

I agree with this. From Pop Warner to the Pros, by that time of the season a player just wants the season to be over. They are physically and mentally shot. Take a survey. This is true.

If you survey guys who have been running scout team all season, they probably would like the opportunity to work in their team's offense/defense to get a head start on next season.

Bowl games are for exclusively for teams that do not suck horribly.

Even rewarding a lot of 7-5 teams is pathetic when you consider how possible it is to be 7-5 without having beaten a single P5 team with a winning record (or ANY teams with winning records for that matter), and maybe only 3 with losing records. It's rewarding crappy play. I get that some people want to watch a lot of college football but it's ironic that the one tough guy sport above all that laughs at the idea of Participation Ribbons and Trophies has become by far the worst sport at rewarding teams that do not deserve recognition.

The universities lose money on these bowls, so there is no money to take
No they dont. The expenses are covered by the conference. The only teams that can lose money are those from weak conferences playing in the top bowl. Rutgers will be neither

Would you change your tune if we were 5-7, fired Flood and let the new coach have three weeks of practices and a bowl with his new team?

If go 5-7 and go to a bowl, it will give the Flood cheerers a chance to say how great everything is and be happy were going bowling when we were project to loose. Food is great and he gets extended.

how many tix would RU sell at 5-7....1000? to Dallas. People would be better off taking that money and donating to the school
