Its amazing the positive vibes the local media is giving off in regards to temple. They're actually talking about the improved academics just as much as the football team. Unbelievably good positive press in their backyard.

I recognize they're at the climax of their potential but this attitude has been cultivated for the last 2-3 years and now it's paying off.

Painfully obvious the hosts no very little about college football though.

Perfect storm: Philly loves underdogs, Temple is ranked, opponent is national "brand" and also ranked, & nothing else to write about (Phillies/Sixers suck, Eagles sinking and on bye, Flyers just started their season and are middling).

College Game Day is coming to Philly......they're undefeated.......they have a chance to knock off ND.......they've already beaten PSU, the 1st time in 74 years.......It's Temple's best team...ever!

it's a pretty good story.......oh, and it's Philly radio station....c'mon....what's not to like here?

If Rutgers were undefeated right now, the local media would be hyping you guys up just the same.

Exactly. Remember when St. Joe's had Jameer Nelson and Delonte West undefeated and in the middle of their deep Final Four run? The media hype machine was working overtime printing anything they could about that team.

They are lucky to get their box score printed these days...

Some of you may recall the Army team of 1996, which jumped out to a 9-0 start and finished 10-2 and lost to Auburn by 3 in the Independence Bowl. They were the darlings of the New York (and probably beyond) media. You guys pulled off something similar in 2006, and got the same reaction. This time, It's Temple's turn. It's great to see it go national, and is one of the things that make college football a great game (in spite of itself, more and more).

The Owls will need to play a lot better than they did against E. Carolina or they will get blown out...I'll be pulling for them...Hey it's Halloween night.....

in 2006 we got a ton of attention for our season. Its not strange for a Philly station to be talking about Temple. If Rutgers was in Philly we would get a lot more talk to but being in NJ, we don't have a sports station or any station that covers us besides WCTC so that's how it is

They'll need to soak up all their attention now because reality is they probably will never be better than they are this season.

I don't get all the Temple love. Temple's success in football is not in the best interest of Rutgers, period.
So we should bury our heads in the sand and pretend it's not happening?

Please explain how college football fans interest in a good story hurts Rutgers Football?

UConn fans should be s**tting their pants right now. If Temple ever got their act together enough why would the ACC ever take Uconn over Temple? Temple is located in the 5th largest media market in the US and in an area with actual football recruits. Temple's biggest weakness is poor fan support and an off-campus stadium. UConn only has somewhat better fan support in an off-campus stadium. UConn's biggest strength is their basketball program. Temple has had enough basketball success to be acceptable to the ACC. Finally, Temple is in a better geographic position to bridge the gap from Virginia to Pitt, BC and Syracuse than UConn would be.

Those hosts on 97.5 in the morning are HORRIBLE! I'm not sure why the station stopped playing Mike and Mike and went to these idiots. Its all Eagles talk most of the time and they don't know much about football.
They wanted a more locally focused show to take on Angelo Cataldi and the WIP morning show, and so far, the results are good from a ratings standpoint. they're way up in that slot since the switch. I do agree it's way too much Eagles talk, though. Way too much, and it never stops, even during the spring and summer.

its about them winning and being successful. It will only hurt our recruiting given our shaky situation with the coach. It should not matter but it does until we start winning or get a coach with stain

But as a college football fan why can't we enjoy it? I was answering RUforlifes statement that it's not in the best interest of Rutgers. My interest, and all others on this board, about this story has no bearing on Rutgers

Dont even get me started on Angelo Cataldi. How he has any ratings is beyond me. He makes Chris Russo sound like opera. A monkey banging pots and pans for 4 hours would beat him in the ratings.

On topic, I am also rooting for Temple this week just because I hate ND. Their coach will be picked up by someone at the end of the year if he keeps winning and they will have to start all over anyway, so they may as well enjoy it while they can.

If I need to explain to you why an FBS program located an hour away from our campus getting POSITIVE national attention and more importantly local Philadelphia media coverage is bad for us, then you are totally clueless.

LOL, dude.. pisst... we are in the Big Ten now and Temple plays in whatever that conference is called. The odds of their HC staying there after this season is slim and none and they will be right back to sucking next year. Sorry to burst your bubble but I had to do it.

First as others stated above that if you are worried about Temple than the real problem is with Rutgers and not Temple. Also you were calling out people on this board for being interested. Please clueless one, how does that affect Rutgers???

How ironic that that's his target audience...

I hope Temple fans soak it in & enjoy it. We have only been in that place once for roughly 10 days 9 years ago. It was fun while it lasted, but it sure didn't last very long.

This. I said back in August Temple was going to be very good this year, probably 'ok' next year, but 2017 is going to be a real challenge...and we know firsthand that one season doesn't always make or break you...you can also ask UConn and USF about that as well.

Oh my, where to begin. Just because a school is in a better conference does not mean it automatically does not compete for the same recruits as a school in the same sub division but in a lesser conference. This might not be the case for the elite teams within the better conference, but it certainly applies to the middle tier schools and bottom feeders, they compete for recruits against the better teams in the lower conferences. News flash, Rutgers football is not an elite B1G football program, we are in the middle of the pack at best. We recruit two and three star Southern Jersey and Eastern PA kids who might now view Temple as a viable option in some cases. Even losing 1 recruit to Temple is not good, let alone 4 or 5 if they now think they will have the opportunity for exposure on a national and local level at Temple. This air of superiority and arrogance just because we are in a good conference is misplaced at best, results on the field is what leads to successful recruiting, conference affiliation alone is not enough, just ask Oregon State, Kentucky, Kansas, Indiana, Purdue, Vandy, Illinois, etc.

To your point, the average rating for Rutgers' 2015 class (per Rivals) was 2.6. Temple, which actually pulled one more 4-star than Rutgers, was at 2.5.

Rutgers pulled twice as many 3-star kids, but Temple is out to a nice start for 2016 with 3-stars. I think you'll see them deepen their classes, even as they continue to grab a 4-star or two per class.

Like other posters have said, it's a perfect storm. I don't have a single problem with people hyping Temple's team right now. Good for them, especially in a city who doesn't give a damn about college football.

They dont really have a chance to knock off ND in anything more than the academic sense. They are getting by on a big upset against PSU and playing really just terrible teams.

But you are right - if RU had beat PSU and 6 other teams of any quality and was playing a big name this week, the media would be all over it - even more than they are with Temple.

Holy crap. That's a bunch of nonsense and still doesn't answer my question!!

I don't think they'll knock off ND, but gosh..they have a chance.

their wins are sure more impressive than PSU's......the beat PSU, @ Cincinnati who's 4-3 and knocked off Miami (i know, Miami sucks..but still), and @ East Carolina who beat V-Tech and took Florida down to the wire. so...i wouldn't say all the teams they beat were terrible.

again...i don't think they'll win...don't get me wrong. most likely...the Temple hype will come to a halt Sat night.

At this point you are laughable. Aren't you the same guy who thought that Comcast was a bigger employer in Philly than Temple?
You make a stupid post and in two responses still haven't answered the question. Give up idiot.

If you don't have premium you should get it now just to see which of RU's 2016 commits will be guests of Temple for the game against ND.

We had some kids visit last week who aren't really interested in RU. They just wanted to see a game and experience the atmosphere. This is no different.
