A statement from the ‘19-‘20 Rutgers Men's Basketball team

Not only are our Rutgers guys great basketball players playing on the biggest stage, they are socially conscious engaged student athletes that have the right perspective on what is going on today and will as a team due their part to change the way things have gone on for too long. So very proud of this team and let them lead the Big 10 in the proper unified way to make change happen.

I liked it alot. Surprised no Pike? But that's cool, perfect the way it was. It's their message and they deserve to be the ones who convey it

When they say a goal is to spark discussion.. do you think they mean it? Are they calling for a re-opening of the CE board?

Just posted the video with this message...

Most people know I'm a long suffering Rutgers sports fan, going to football and hoops games for close to 40 years now (as well as some other sports at times). Athletic success has often been elusive, but I've always just been more of a fan of the scholar-athletes (yes using that term without sarcasm, as I've known some athletes and coaches over the years and for the most part RU has always tried to do things the "right way.") playing in Scarlet.

So, this past year was a breakthrough for the hoops team, finishing 20-11/11-9 and being a lock for the NCAA tourney for the first time in 29 years...until COVID hit and took that fun away from the players, coaches and fans. But this was such a great group that most of us were just so happy they played this game so well, hard, and unselfishly as an incredible team. Made us proud of them as players, students and young men.

Well, their stock just went way up in my opinion, especially as young men and current/future leaders. They just put together this really heartfelt and well done short message on fighting together to combat racism and police brutality. Even more proud of them now. Have a watch.

Hopefully they didn’t riot, abuse law Enforcement, take down statues call for the death of half our population call for the destruction of our society ect ect. I hope they are not Marxist. I hope all of you would be against that. And if you found out they did I hope you wouldn’t be so proud

Calling people Marxists then quoting a democratic socialist like it proves your point? You’re all over the place

Dunno, Travesty. "George Orwell" was not a Marxist. He was against totalitarianism of either side. Animal Farm is about a leftist totalitarian society--All animals are equal but some are more equal than others. The current crisis illustrates what we already know. A small number of cops are bullies or bent, and despite complaints, they are protected by the union. The best illustration of that is the cop who hid behind a car during the Parkland Massacre. He was fired, but then later, reinstated with full back pay. How many complaints had been lodged against Chauvin?

Other cops are truly bent. Am reading one of the Bosch books and two bent cops are the Bad Guys but though we readers know, Bosch doesn't yet. And the author is no woke person. Bent cops shake down criminals; falsify all kinds of stuff. It happens. There are bad and bent cops of all races; all genders. We just have to do a better job of rooting them out. They give our overwhelmingly honest cops that try to do the right thing a bad name. We went through much of this in the 60's and 70's, but to most posters, this is all new. And as for our RU players--demonstration is their right. Just don't get swept up by the inevitable agitators.
