Yes.

Look at ours compared to the rest.

They even had a “last game” thing they could have promoted but went with something that clearly looks like an afterthought.

...they looked at the game and probably said, 'oh, use image gg66439915'...

Thanks for the great write up. Any truth that this program [November 8, 1924 Lafayette vs. Rutgers at Princeton Stadium] was one of the first to have multiple photographs inside the program?

I can now confidently answer your question. And that answer is no. Rutgers went to Grant Field (now Bobby Dodd Stadium at Historic Grant Field) in Atlanta on October 22, 1921 and played to its largest crowd until that time -- 20,000 -- and was defeated by the Golden Tornados of Georgia Tech 48-14. Someone on ebay just put up the program from that game for a ridiculous asking price but included scans of all the pages of the program including multiple pages of photographs:

Thanks for the update. I should have asked me question differently. Was it the first Rutgers program that had photos? One day I will take it out of the frame and scan the photos. Bonus questions, I guess I can look it up, why did they change from Golden Tornadoes?

Rutgers programs by 1920 had photos and I believe some of the late 1910s may have had them too. Here's a current ebay auction for the 1897 Thanksgiving Day game between Cal and Stanford. The owner put up all the pages and they have photographs in them. Great looking cover too!

Georgia Tech has gone by Blacksmiths, Engineers, Golden Tornado, Yellow Jackets, Ramblin' Wreck. Unlike today where nicknames are trademarked or copyrighted, a nickname early on wasn't quite as formal or legally binding. Sometimes there's a story behind the name, sometimes it was what the newspapers referred to you as, sometimes a student group provided impetus for a name change. The Yellow Jackets name came from a spirit organization formed in 1930 - the Yellow Jacket Club. Engineers was a nickname given to many colleges because of engineering programs they had. In fact, the most games Rutgers played against one nickname was against the "Engineers" because of all the games played against Lehigh and a few against Renssaelear.

Here's another personal fave from my collection. It's 1936 sheet music for the Loyal Sons of Rutgers. When I appeared on Big Ten Treasure Hunter in 2014, John Arcand (the treasure hunter) really wanted to buy this item. I told him it was not for sale. :)

Cool item PiscatawayMike. What ever happened to the Big Ten Treasure Hunter show? Are they still doing shows?

The November 11, 1924 Targum said the Tigers’ loaning of Palmer Stadium to host the Rutgers-Lafayette game was only topped by Princeton’s 34-0 shutout at Harvard while the Scarlet won 43-7, “Princeton’s generosity serves to break the ice. It is, we hope an indication of Nassau’s true feeling toward its fellow-institution, an indication of the possibility of renewing the old rivalry which started back in the days of the cannon war and the first intercollegiate game…. the time for prejudice and hard-feelings has gone… It must have been a source of great satisfaction to the Princeton men who attended the game at Palmer Stadium to hear the Rutgers men cheer when it was announced that Princeton was leading Harvard by a score of 10-0. It seemed fitting that Princeton should be running up a score against a traditional rival while a neighboring college did likewise on Princeton’s home field.”

Where was that listed under wikipedia?
Back in 2013, someone created a page for each individual year's results for Rutgers Football, beginning with 1869. The schedule table on each page includes a row for each game and columns for date, opponent, site, and result.

The 1924 page incorrectly identified the site of the Lafayette game as Neilson.

In honor of the 10th anniversary of Eric LeGrand's tragic injury at the Meadowlands, here's a few of the many LeGrand trading cards in my collection.

This one was professionally graded because it's the only one in existence. This is indicated by the 1/1 written on the back of the card.

This is an autographed card. (As many of you are aware, Eric has the ability to sign items by utilizing a pen in his mouth.) Only 10 of these cards exist.

This card features a piece of apparel worn by Eric...

I really like this card because it is scarlet-colored. Only five exist.

I have many other LeGrand cards as well, including several duplicates. I will mail a LeGrand trading card to the first five people who agree to donate to Team LeGrand by the end of the month. Simply email your name and address to me at RU197576 (at) hotmail.com and I will send you a card.

Hope you get "sold out" of those Eric LeGrand cards quickly. I have one of them but I didn't realize how many varied ones existed.

I also hope someone can tell me how to post a picture. It was very easy to do until they updated the site awhile back And I'm not.... how to say it politely.... tech savvy?

Here's how I do it...
*Post a photo on Facebook
*Left-click on the photo in the new tab and a menu will appear
*Click on Open image in new tab
*In the new tab, copy the URL
*Click on the Insert Image icon on the info bar on this site
*Paste the URL into the box
*Go back to Facebook and delete your personal photo post

It's the easiest and quickest way to post a personal photo. The problem with this method is that the photos you post on this site will only appear for less than a week, when the folks at Facebook clean up the URLs for photos that do not appear on their site.

Hope this makes sense!

It does make sense and I thank you. One small problem for me, though, .... I'm not on Facebook! I'm also still using two tin cans and a string for a telephone.

A recent Ebay auction had color slides from the mid-1950s. If you go to the site above and scroll down, there are photos of what is on the slide. If you increase the size of the photos, you can make out a rare shot of the Chanticleer that was on its way out and the Scarlet Knight on his way in. That would date it to about 1954 or 1955. One slide appears to show the Chanticleer hitching a ride on a horse!

Also on the slides are Homecoming floats. 1956 was the first year for making floats at the Homecoming Game.
