According to his Twitter account.....(Wrestling)

Very interesting. Hope his head is on straight after the football incident. Kid was an animal at wrestling in High School.

It's about time! I always thought he's a stronger wrestler than footballer. He'll need at least a year to compete at this level.

Get it done and get'em started down at SKWC, Asap. Definitely need help in the uppers this year. Maybe with 6 months training he can help this year at heavyweight. I believe he played football at 250 lbs., so 197 might be out of the question. Never hurts to have a 2X State Champ in the room. Kids super strong, which is a big asset at the heavyweight position.

Does he have any history wrestling Mulligan and/or Correnti?
Doing some quick research it doesn't appear there is any history. They were freshman when Gross graduated (195 Champ), Correnti was at 182 (finished 8th as a freshman) and Mulligan wrestled 160 that year (qualified for states but didn't place).

I am all for second chances. Gross seems like he has something to prove amd has fire and drive still after the arrests hopefully he can get himself back on track.

I like the move.

Did Gross beat any elite wrestler in highschool? I know he beat Messner (currently at RU) and McMullen (who left RU wrestling and not currently wrestling), but not sure if he had beaten anyone elite...

I went back to his Senior year and no real elite wins. Also went to Earl's site (D1CW) he ranked the top 200 recruits that year and Gross was #167, interestingly 3 others that are (or were) on our roster were ranked lower. #185 - Corey Stasenko, #193 - Nick Gravina, and #198 - Richie Lewis.

Will be interesting to see if he is heavy enough coupled with his layoff to surprise some B1G guys

Obviously I hope you are right, but I will take the under.

Under for me too. I don't think he'll be as good as Meekins.
He was 100% right with his prediction for Richie Lewis...

Richie Lewis and Gross are different. Lewis is a 2x finalist at the junior college level, and Gross didn't wrestle for the last two years, not to mention he's not an elite highschool wrestler. I remember that soccer player, Rob Johnson, who also wrestled for RU not doing too well after couple years of no wrestling. I'm hoping Gross can be as good as Meekins.

I have no idea how he will do. I was curious as to how he is doing in the room. Is he beating the current heavies? Is he dominating them? Lewis was not considered an elite high school wrestler, but he blossomed as a JUCO and last year on the team.

There were questions last year in the pre-season as to how good Lewis would be and Bill (an insider) said he was a beast in the room and would get 20 wins. Maybe I'm being naive, but I am asking for and trusting that opinion again.

"elite" is a notoriously difficult term to define but I think being a top 200 recruit is pretty elite. he's also a good enough athlete to be get a d1 football scholarship. so, pretty good!

cautiously optimistic is how I like to view things. most importantly, I'm glad he'll be getting back into a structured sports environment. whether or not he steps on the mat in a varsity singlet, I'm happy to see him continue his academic and athletic career and wish him the best.

Didn't Rob Johnson do that crazy somersault throw in? Someone jog my memory please, what is left of it. Thanks. $$$$

Yes that was Rob.Johnson...trivia..Rob Johnson won his 1st State title in 1990...who was his HS teammate that also wrestled in State finals that year?

Jumel Kitchen won at 125 that year, but I am guessing you are talking about someone that finished 2nd. Since I know the answer I won't spoil it for others.

Goodale giving up those 4 in 1st crushed him in that match. pretty sure Unkert was ranked #2 in USA that year.. I think that loss motivated him to be a very good college wrestler (still holds all-time major decision victories at D-1 Lock Haven, when he was there they were Mat Town USA and top 15 program yearly) and an incredible Teacher/Coach..Nice pick up OB...I can't believe I forgot Jumel Kinchen.

Goodale said he spoke with multiple security officials inside the Rutgers football program, and "they all think he's a great kid.''
"We've done our background with him and we've talked to all the right people, all the important people inside the university,'' Goodale said. "We feel good about it. He's been in our room working really, really hard. Nothing is guaranteed. He'll have an opportunity to make our team. That's as far as we'll go for now. ... We'll give him a second chance. He'll have a short leash but I don't foresee any problems. He's very appreciative and he's working hard.''

"He is super athletic and he’s super strong and it seems like there is a passion,” Goodale said. “But everybody has passion in the spring and the summer. I need to see the passion in November when it’s on the line. I think he misses it. I think is what he should’ve been doing it all along. He should’ve been with us from the get-go.”

“We lose a couple really good kids,” Goodale said, “but we get so many kids back and this recruiting class is really special. We had this vision that we’d redshirt them all, but I don’t think we’ll be able to do that. Some of them are just too good. We have to wrestle them. It could be a really, really special year.”

Looks like we really might be starting some of the recruiting class. I like this move by Goodale if they are ready. Anyone doubting our lineup for next year, I believe, our lineup may be even stronger.

I think Mulligan at 197 could be the frosh who starts. While it would be good to RS them all he may be our best at that weight class.

With the way wrestling is, it isn't imperative to rs them as freshmen always. The deeper RU gets the more they will have to rs to break up log jams st certain weights. Theo took his as a senior. Wrestling us very unique in that way.
