Addazio out at Colorado State

Posted this in carousel thread.

Be wary leaning too hard on recommendations of others, even legend coaches. Should be just one small piece of the puzzle of finding a good coach not everything. We should know lol. 😉

Good coach. Bad fit in Colorado.
If you are what your record says you are, 61-67 at 3 different teams over 11 years is a "good coach?"
Also kind of ridiculous to fire a guy after 16 games.
I kind of agree. Looks like things too a nose dive under the previous coach, Mike Bobo (never hire a coach named Bobo?), and 2 years is not enough to turn it around.
But his only wins were against MWC bottom dweller New Mexico and middling San Jose State plus Toledo. Most of the games were not blowouts, except losing 52-10 to Nevada in last game did not help his cause.

That's a hell of a job by Nicole Auerbach. She does some really great work.

We learned the hard way to not take the recommendations of coaches or ADs from your conference.

He had off the field issues too iirc. His abrasive personality probably didn’t help. Also from an article I read with regards to some competitors and quick turn arounds. DeBoer is already off to Washington.

From the article:

Want some more facts? Blake Anderson’s Year 1 at Utah State featured nine wins and a division title. The Aggies’ record the year before his arrival: 1-5.

Kalen DeBoer after 16 games at Fresno State: 10-6. Record the year before his arrival: 4-8.

Whatever you do, don't share the above information with any of the angry fans on this board !!! SHARP AXE

Geeze, 2 years, 1 a covid year. Prior to his coming they had gone 3-9 and 4-8 respectively.

Yes, by those numbers, it seems hasty. But you can't underestimate how quickly he wears out his welcome everywhere he goes. Temple was just about to fire him - like, within days - before BC foolishly took him off their hands. He was 9-4 and 4-7 in his two years there, and while there were plenty who wanted him gone based on the team's clear regression, the issue was that he was a terror around the athletic offices. Think Bobby Knight but without the championships. Boorish, aggressive, intimidating, and that was just to the secretaries. Terrible guy who should never get a HC job again.

Pays to be fired so quickly. He can sit on his ass and count his millions until he decides it’s time to work again.
He's 62 and can probably retire comfortably. But some of these guys like to got to 70 yo. Brian Kelly is under contract until he is 70. And there was that Kansas State Coach. No, Addazio is not in the same league (or universe as these guys), but some football coaches must love their job. Who wouldn't love a job to get paid millions to totally suck at your job?

At BC, considering Spaziani was 22–29/13-19 over 4 seasons and Addazio 44-44/22-34 (not so hot) was an upgrade, but still a long way off from Tom O'Brien, who was 75-45/37-34 over 10 seasons, but failed to do the same at NC State.
BC has had only two 8 win seasons since 2006 (the other in 2009).

No serious person was advocating for this guy to coach RU.

Interesting comparison's nonetheless to look at overall records the last 8 years.

If you want to know if someone is a good guy, you need to talk to the people who he did not need to be good to. Secretary, the cleaning people, driver, etc.

Long time lurker here... I grew up on RU football but now live in Fort Collins, CO. Addazio was a strange hire to begin with. He did not fit the culture of the Mountain West, or Fort Collins in the particular. Fort Collins is a great University town with one of the best stadiums and facilities in the Mountain West. Addazio did not establish a significant recruiting foot print and relied on a number of transfers from Temple and B.C. He inherited some really good players including an all-American tight end, but did not build upon them. For example, McBride, the Mackey Award finalist, only had one touchdown!

He also had an abrasive relationship with the fan base, implying that they did not know football. His press conferences were confrontational and he lost any media support. The straw that broke the camel's back was his ejection from the final game in the 2nd quarter.

I don’t know about those stories but they fit with the gist you get reading about him.

His buyout dropped from 3 million to 2 million today that’s why it happened today.

Love posts like this.

Maybe his final presser may not be representative, but the comments underneath speak volumes.

YouTube always suggests related videos on the right hand side, and for some reason, this came up?

Candidates I've seen mentioned for this job are Tony Alford CSU alum and past interviewee and current OSU RB coach, Kevin Wilson OSU OC, Jeff Tedford from retirement although now I've read supposedly going to get the Fresno job, Graham Harrell, former CSU/UF and current CMU coach Jim McElwain, NM DC Rocky Long, Denver Broncos WR coach Zach Azzanni, Ok State Safties coach Dan Hammerschmidt

Many other sport teams at BC disliked him especially when he constsntly rooted for NotreDame

This. It is revisionist and dishonest to suggest that fans were advocating for his hire. I don't recall hearing his name come up among the fans much, if it all. Hobbs maybe. But fans wanted no part of him. And his tenure at CSU did not go well at all, both on and off the field. He would have bombed here too.

Oh there were RU fans that wanted him I remember that very well because I blasted those people big time. Addazxio ahead of GS ? I was out of my mind with those people.
