I’d swear there was a thread dedicated to Kaliakmanis earlier but now I can’t find it so what is left to say my peace in the new thread. Basically, my question for those who are criticizing AK is who did you think we were getting in this year? Did you think it was Peyton Manning? AK had a good game today, the kind of game which Wimsatt would’ve been totally in capable of producing. The loss is frustrating, I understand that as well as anyone. But anyone who hammers Kaliakmanis for his interception or for passes that may have been off target is just looking for a scapegoat or one more thing to be critical of. He put up 287 passing yards and Rutgers scored 32 points. He’s a middle of the pack B1G quarterback.

I don't think anyone is blaming anyone on the offense or rather they shouldn't be. This was a total failure by the defense and our head coach being a defensive guy gets all the blame. Beginning of second half press man worked and we stopped them, only problem, we never did it again. Our guys can not figure out who to pick up in a zone. They just let them run past their face and nobody picks up the TE/WR. We play zone to avoid giving up big plays but they're still happening.

The defense was 100% of the problem today.

We have a segment of fans who blame the QB no matter what happens.

The real question is why the defense played wonderfully the first 5 games and then melted down the last 2. The coaches didn't stay in Nebraska.

Why? At least part of it is injuries.

Don't know what NIRH means. I'm the OP and never used the word "blame." I used "criticizing." But in the other AK thread, which may have existed only in my head, there was plenty of criticism of AK.

He means me and apparently is mad I agreed with you lol

I replied to a reply to a post by NotInRHouse.. that is NIRH. You may, wisely, have him on ignore.

Criticism and blame are on two different levels. Sure.. AK does not do everything well.. doesn't look off receivers, doesn't scramble to throw, his short throws were ridiculously off-target. But he played great today, overall. No one can blame him for the loss.

Better opponents.

And I didn’t mean to imply that AK is beyond criticizing. Only that this seemed an odd time to be doing so.

The defense played wonderfully the first 5 games? Did you see 2nd half of Va Tech and the Washington game? Lol..

This was a top 15 defense last year. They have sucked since game 3 quarter 3.;

I did. When you hold teams to 23 and less points, you put yourself in a position to win B1G games and games against quality P5 teams like VT. Perfection isn't needed.

The D didn't do that vs UCLA or Wisconsin.

Lewis and Bailey not playing is a problem.
Lewis got a lot of attention from OL and even RB help blocking. Often same for Bailey. If OL doesn't have to worry about doubling anyone.. they can safely send OL to the 2nd level to mess with LBs.. and LB injuries an issue as well.

What's that old adage..

For want of a nail the shoe was lost.
For want of a shoe the horse was lost.
For want of a horse the rider was lost.
For want of a rider the message was lost.
For want of a message the battle was lost.
For want of a battle the kingdom was lost.
And all for the want of a horseshoe nail.

I think that's what we got goin' on here.

Rutgers D was always about executing assignments.. working as one.. taking chances while hiding where the weakness was when you take a risk to make a big play... a well-oiled machine where all its parts work and do their job... 1 player not doing their job.. not being capable.. or being injured.. can make a huge difference. Would be nice if we had talent advantages everywhere.. but when has that been the case?

AK is not the problem with this team. He has improved the passing game compared to last year. The issue is that defense has fallen off considerably, especially in the last two games.

Short memory. Defense is the unit that has given us the chance to win up until Wisconsin. AK and the offense have 1 breakout game and everyone forgets that offense has had issues scoring points on the big boy teams. The offensive line can't block consistently and AK was missing layups. The thing he was supposed to bring to the team, if nothing else, was making the layups. No one expected him to be a world beater.
