AK on first down

It is obvious.. right? You don't have to be a real OC to see this.. right?

Same for AK not keeping the ball more.. it is not a threat that helps move the ball if he never keeps it. Same for not returning punts. We returned one yesterday but Dremel is not the guy who should be doing that.. right? He's back there to catch the ball.. right?

We also ran the ball with pass-block look of the OL.. no firing out. Haven't we learned that you need a NFL quality OL and WR and QB for that to work? Ciarocca did this last time here as OC.. I blamed Flood for that.. as co-OC at that time.. but, damn, its baaaaaack...

He completes a high percentage of throws to first read after ball fake to Kyle that holds the defense, Yet KC insists on running no fake,
First read is covered and play is over.
Agree. KM is a great threat to fake the ball to and freeze the LB's for a split second. Don't understand not using it more. Starting to wonder on the value of KC.

His competition percentage is very high when Kirk calls for it on 1st and second down when not behind the chains

Play calling & strategic decisions are just plain awful. For example, KM was running really well in 1st half & we went right away from him to pass, pass. Hardly saw him for the rest of the half & all of the 2nd half.

And Zero creativity. Minimal motion. No complicated shifting. No deception. How about both backs in the backfield? How about a 4wr set on occasion ? Counter play now and again? Line up under center here and there? Like watching paint dry.

So true. Been saying the same thing for some time.

AK only focuses on one receiver. Doing it his whole career. Easy for DB’s to read. Not sure if he can adjust. The zero time his OL is giving him in Pass Protection is not helping

Kirk was just so hungry to chase points he screwed us.

He was calling plays as if the game was out of reach, it’s like he didn’t bank on the defense being able to hold their ground.

I posted this in another thread, but 37 pass attempts to 22 carries between KM and SB is criminal.

You may send KC to the same place. I am Not going to say where but it involves monkeys. And nits

AK was behind on a lot of throws... he also had some real nice throws... but I wonder if that leg brace indicates a real problem that is throwing him off.. his footwork worse or at least slower, Also.. maybe some of those throws behind his WR were practiced with Strong and replaced by someone else in the pattern.. timing just off.. read of where to sit down or continue pattern changed.. etc.

I hope those late throws long to black will inspire earlier attempts to stretch the field against teams stacking the box.

I also think we are doing that zone blocking repeatedly on running plays to preserve teh ability to throw off the read option... time to screw that idea and just drive block and see what KM can do with some real run blocking. But maybe we do that because AK cannot run off the RPO?

It is worrisome. Defenses are loading up against the run and run-blitzing. We have to do some quick-hitting running plays that catch them in a stunt or otherwise punish them for this plan with play-action or screens. We cannot just go tight formation and have the OL stand up and look for zone blocks on running plays.. it ain't working anymore.

I've never understood the lack of play action passing when RU has an effective running game. They didn't do it with Rice, either.

Plus we're going against 8 in the box. No bueno!

Chunk plays.. we need chunk plays.. and we cannot get them unless we call plays for them. We have been inviting run blitzes.. time for that to end. Yes.. Schiano says the ball is the program.. is risk-averse on offense.. but a three-and-out.. especially with suspect punting.. may as well be a net 30-40 yard INT trying to stretch the field. A three-and-out is a turnover too.

Guys - stop. It was blatantly obvious that AK was very limited mobility wise on Saturday. We don’t know what the underlying issue is, but unless we’re making a decision to go with our green back up (which nobody on here has any concrete reason to believe would’ve given us a better chance - we’re not at practice), the play book was going to be limited last week. Let’s hope AK can heal up this week. It’s a long season. All things equal, if Nebraska’s QB was the one who had to play game in a brace due to injury, it’s highly unlikely they would’ve won.

KC is not running far enough. He should not stop going until he gets to Alabama or thereabouts.Anywhere except here
