The Melody, a former Hungarian “old man’s” bar, was opened by Cal Levine and Steve Flaks in March of 1981. It closed abruptly, without notice or a farewell party, on a Tuesday in March of 2001. A sign was left on the door. Tuesday nights at the Melody were a big hit in the club’s final years thanks to the late Jim Dunlap’s Save the Wave ‘80s-themed nights.
