And so it begins, Big 10 on Fri. nights

Ok I'll end this discussion with you. You called me a moron, I've never called you a derogatory name in all the years I've been on this message board. I run a successful business which I started from scratch. No one gave me the money to start it either, I worked and saved. While other businesses were going bankrupt during the recession mine thrived do to my tireless effort to make sure it succeeded. I don't take kindly to you questioning my business skills. I will refrain from commenting on your posts in the future. Please do the same with mine.
Relax. I said don't be a moron in response to your comment that I was happy "because maybe now I could make a game". I can go to any game I want. I choose my children's soccer/football games because they are more important to me. It's great that you've built your business. I've done the same....my point is, I'm not questioning your business skills. That being said, I can't imagine any business that you can't take a few hours off with a years notice.

RUFromJ, there you go introducing facts, better check, that might be against board rules...I agree with you. I'm personally okay with Friday night games but it will adversely impact attendance from HS players and coaches. Students will like it, though.

Again, it's 1 home game, not 6, really not a big deal at all IMHO.

It's all about the money, of course. You trade your soul in contracts with the major TV networks when you join a P5 conference. This is what we prayed for, isn't it?

Friday night games are akin to selling your soul?

Anyone know why HS football has gone more towards the friday night schedule?

It ain't to get there kids to Rutgers games. Lol
I think part of it has to do with field and ref limits. It's very hard for youth programs to find open fields and refs. Having fields on Saturday is a plus. More importantly, I'm sure it also helps with attendance and revenue

And another way of keeping NJ recruits and coaches away from Rutgers suits OSU, Mich, and PSU very well.

Bring it on! Used to love those Thursday night games (and would still be happy with a Thursday game), so I'm sure I'll like one Friday night game per year. And especially early in the season, where I'd far rather play a September game where it's a comfortable 65-70F in the evening vs. a noon start where it's over 80F.

One Thursday/Friday night game a year acceptable

Just not season where we had three or four home games on Saturday

meh I dont like Thursday or Friday games and if its a Thursday or Friday before Labor Day weekend, it will have even a greater effect on attendance IMO

in the end ratings will be poor if they feature the weaker 7 in the majority of these games

Do you think a Rutgers vs Indiana Friday night game will do worse ratings wise then a RU Indy Sat noon game?

it will do poor regardless...but why would espn want a game like that
Why would ESPN want that? I dunno, what else are they showing on Friday nights?

But if the ratings are better on a Friday night then on a Saturday noon, even if not "good", is that not better for everyone?

Huh? That's BIG's premier time slot.

They definitely aren't against it. Just don't want competing games going against it. The more slots, the better for business.
So we don't get the Sat 3:30 because they don't want us competing against their prime game?

No one besides Rutgers and Indiana fans are watching on a Saturday.

On a Friday night, with not much other football on, more people are watching.

They won't put Rutgers-Indiana on Friday night. Half the games will be OOC and the other half will be solid late Sep/early Oct B1G games which, I'd guess, will be cross-division ones more often than not.

Why is B1G anti Saturday 3:30?

Where did you get that from? Did I miss something?

This is what I was getting at. Or at least how I see it.

A couple of things I see happening with this Friday night lights:

Nebraska loves football and Friday night games here and there might not be out of the question for them. The support is strong and it doesn't matter what day.

Not every B1G plays all their non conference games in the first three, so expect to see non conference games throughout September (4 weeks)

League on Friday will probably be some nice match-ups like Iowa at Nebraska or Northwestern at Wisconsin.

I think the league will not have certain teams playing Friday's all the time. It's a good chance of the 11 teams you may play once on Friday. If you're forced to play more than once, then it will be no more than twice in a season.

It may look like this:
Washington at Rutgers, next week Northern Illinois at Nebraska, followed by Nevada at Northwestern, Maybe one of the league games is something Iowa at Wisconsin.

I think some of you are over analyzing this and allowing the "Rutgers screw" to cloud your thoughts. There are 11 remaining B1G teams who will play Friday nights.

We know Ohio State is out of the question because they are "THE Ohio State".[sick] Michigan is similar, but their ego is out of control. Penn State want to be Ohio State and Michigan in this case.[roll]

1)Well Rutgers vs whomever. Rutgers vs Washington then. Or which ever OCC is on the schedule in upcoming years.

2)Point was answered above. Better question would have been why can't Rutgers get a 3:30 time slot? Answer being, B1G does not want us competing against the prime game.

Makes sense, in my.opinion, to have NO conference competition going against the premiere game..thus, all eyes on that game..= higher ratings.

I still don't see Rutgers-Indiana on a Friday night. These games are going to be in Sept and early October when you're playing your 3 OOC and 3 cross-division games. Late Oct and November are - for the most part - your divisional games. Hence, my comments re: RU-Indiana, I doubt that game would figure into the lineup.

Still don't see where the B1G said "no 3:30 games."

This is what I was getting at. Or at least how I see it.

This is obvious what the Big Ten is doing it for. This won't be the conference game of the week..

But an otherwise overshadowed Big Ten game on a Saturday with so many other games going on will be moved to Friday night for some nice exposure.

1)I already said RU vs OCC, if that is the way it will be played out. But the opponent is not important, just the rating of Friday night vs Sat at noon.

2)How many 3:30 games does RU have this year?

Us, none, but that isn't what you said. You said "why is the B1G anti-Saturday." They aren't. Not even close. All this does is give the big MORE TV time slots.

And I again say, this is a pro Rutgers move. Weren't we always a good draw on Thurday nights? Specifically in the NYC market?

This is obviously not about OSU and Michigan, and I don't see ESPN clamoring for a Friday night Northwestern vs whoever match up. IMO this is very much about Rutgers.

A Friday night home game totally works for me, considering all of the noon games we're going to have for the next 3-5 years. Couple that with my Jets woes, and 1:00 games (as a season ticket holder there as well). A Friday night early in the season means, take a 1/2 day on Friday and start the Q early..
