And so it begins, Big 10 on Fri. nights

To bring this back on topic.........

I watched Oklahoma, Colorado, and UCLA play last night. Three schools with more athletic history than we will probably ever accomplish. Not one of them will be getting 50 million a year from their TV contract. We have nothing to complain about EVER

I see no problem with one game each year Friday night...... the high school game conflict is a very minor one, and it gives that Friday night game a chance of being higher profile, maybe higher viewership than a 12 noon Saturday game.

I believe someone ITT already posted some viewership #s. It will definitely get you more viewership.

I have a young kid so Penn State is generally the only day game I get the opportunity to watch. I'm really looking forward to being able to see some of the other B1G teams that I generally never see unless they are in primetime or playing PSU.

What is the conference's stated rationale for excusing the big stadium schools (Michigan, Penn State, Ohio State, Wisconsin, etc.) from having to play Friday night games? I read that Michigan and Penn State flat out refused to do so.

I will never be able to make it to a Friday night game, unless I take the day off from work, but if it is just one game a year I can live with it. I suspect it will significantly dampen the tailgating festivities though.

Penn State did not refuse. Also, OSU committed to one game every three years.

How awesome would it be if RU hosted PSU on a Friday evening in a nationally televised game? For right now, what is the downside to RU?

Per Penn State Athletics (@GoPSUSports) on Twitter (11/2/16 4:03 pm) "Penn State has informed the Big Ten that we will not host football games on a Friday night." They did, however, indicate that they have agreed to play not more than one away game each year on a Friday night. So, not an outright refusal. They met the Big Ten half way.

I hope they have a Friday night away game every year...will make for some great road trips as I know it won't be against Michigan or Ohio State.

None. Can't think of one. Also can't think of the downside of having the same game on a Saturday night too.

What is the downside of your side doing the same? It is a Friday night, not a weeknight and I don't agree with this idea it was done (the NO part) for HS football. But again, just my IMO.

The game isn't big enough to warrant a prime time Saturday spot IMO. That's not a slight, PSU isn't playing OSU on a Saturday night because of PSU. That being said, we play them tough at home. Pretty sure Iowa was a TBA time start originally.

No idea why PSU can't do a home at night. I'd be all for it.

Yeah but one is going to have to leave for those day trips as much as a day earlier DURING THE WEEK.

Not necessarily. Leave Friday morning and have Saturday as your completely free day to explore. Actually better IMO.

I didn't mean the us vs. you part. Just the home Friday night deal.

So you own your own business but you don't ever take any time off...not even an afternoon? LOL
1st you don't know my business. In the winters yes I do take time off(about a month) which has allowed me to travel to most of our bowl games. Or when it rains, maybe that'll be a Friday afternoon when our night game transpires. One can only hope right.

But I work in construction and have a fairly large company. From early March till end of January it's go, go, go. It's just the nature of the business. And running multiple job sites is demanding on one's time. I take Saturdays off for football games and other activities, my guys work. I will be able to retire early in my 50's, but I probably won't. In another 10 years I'll take those Friday afternoon's off like you suggest though.
