And. . .

Congrats on the scholarship Kennedy.

Question # 1 for TKR readers: Why does the B1G conference standings table on the wall show Rutgers as ranked #1?

At first I thought the person doing the board was hanging by his feet from the ceiling and accidentally hung the table upside down.

Then I zoomed and saw Rutgers was listed at 1, not 14 which is where team currently ranks in the standings.

Question #2: Why does Coqueese struggling find takers for scholarships? One would think players would be interested in a Rutgers education while playing ball at the highest level, even for a lousy team.

first question:
#1 in the hearts of Rutgers fans might be the answer 😉
Or might be since the board was hanging in the Rutgers locker-room Rutgers was on top for motivation purposes and not just to show standings
Other programs might do the same

Question 2.
for some players education is secondary and players tend to want to play for teams considered a winner
.Coqueese is recruiting the talent she feels will fit her style of play in building a winning program at Rutgers.
Some coaches are selective who they bring in because if a player doesn't fit they will be unhappy and that might hurt the teams chemistry
By the way: Coach Washington is bringing in talented players for next year's roster

this years roster

Don’t forget when she was hired late, after the CVS/Eatman debacle, she had only 3 of the 15 players on Eatman’s team returning: Lafayett, Sidibe, and Cornwell.
The other 12 all transferred or graduated. Given the circumstances she was lucky to keep freshmen Bates and Smikle and transfers Brown, Carter and Streeter. What other players would be anxious to come into this mess? (She was also able to get Huerter to come mid season but redshirt).
Carter and Streeter left, still a hard sell to get people who wanted to take a chance on RU, but she did get decent transfers in Petticord and Adams and a promising freshman in Thomas.
Got a couple of more good ones coming next year and we don’t know what the portal may yield.

Chris Ash, former Rutgers football coach, had no trouble finding takers for 85 scholarships while building a roster of more than 100 players, despite a program at the time that was tumbling downhill.

Why can't Rutgers WBB find players? NJAC has 10 women's basketball teams. Rutgers should be able to round out a roster by bringing a handful of top NJAC transfers to B1G, even if it is an interim step.

Good news is recruits are coming onto team next season.

look at the results Ash had.
Anyone can fill a roster, the trick is bringing in talent and not cluttering up the roster with players that won't help.
Sometimes, even coaches of a losing team, its best to build with those that will be part of the game rather getting players that will be only watching from the bench and wind up unhappy .
Some coaches can force players to leave and receive little push-back.
Rutgers has had a history with the local media that seems not to be one that if it is found out the WBB HC pushed out a player that coach and school wouldn't be raked through the coals for doing so , which would hurt the program's recruiting the talent needed to build a winner.

Negative publicity over forcing players to transfer needs to be avoided when the program isn't doing well.
Winning programs , or well liked coaches, get away with that .
The RU WBB HC is a respected coach but doesn't have the type of following that would keep the media off herass if it was found out she was making players lkeave so she could replace them

Better to sign the talent that fit than bring in those that will sit and be unhappy and might be locker-room cancers hurting team chemistry or bring bad PR because they were told they were unwanted and should leave
