Problem with basketball right now. Absolutely no defense and it's being passed down to even hs level in some places. This was a nationally televised game and defensive effort was given 30% of the time.

I thought play was very sloppy. NCAA still has defensive principles, but i hardly go near watching an NBA game these days. A close out is supposed to be in your defensive repertoire, not a last resort. A close out is all they were giving last night on a lot of positions and it was because they were so far from their man a good amount of the time. The east had better defense though.

Been watching All Start games since I was in college and there is never any defense played.

I would argue that the thing that has suffered the most is the mid range offense. you get guys who can use the body and get layups or dunks, you get guys who can shoot the 3, but what is lacking is the consistent 12-15 foot shooter. Those guys don't seem to exist anymore.

Of course we get none of the above.

Patrick, the mid range is definitely starting to fade from the game. You still see players with it, but not as common as the three or crafty layup as you said.

Still, i hear they go for offense but this kind of play transitions to the next level. More and more it's seen to be an offensive show, and that's lame to me.

The last great one is now the head coach at UNC-Charlotte... Mark Price.

My quintessential mid range player was Rip Hamilton.

It is an all star game. These players don't have time together. They are just thrown on the court and they are out to get theirs and impress and none of them were chosen to go to the game because of their defensive skill. Looking at this game for defense is like going to George street at rush hour for evidence of how fast cars are capable of going. The tournament has had many great games with lots of excellent defense. Don't worry. It is being played.

The mid range game doesn't exist anymore because it's the most inefficient shot in the game.

I watched a little bit of it. Completely unwatchable. Every possession might as well have been 1-on-5 since whoever took the ball up the court would try to take it to the hoop every single time, like the other 4 players didn't exist. Meanwhile, the defense is just standing around doing nothing. Just bad basketball.

Yeah, i get everyone saying not everyone goes to the mcdonalds game for defense, but still-this is supposed to be basketball.
