The dude is a baller and doesn't back down, and seems to like mixing it up. Early in the first half when Delgado half bumped one of our guys near the FT line, which didn't seem like that big of a deal on replay, Eugene casually shoulder-bumped Delgado, which caused some jawing among the players. Eugene and a SHU player both were called for technicals, which settled the situation down, but Eugene immediately clapped in their faces and enjoyed the whole thing.
Then after he was fouled toward the end of the game and went to the line with a few seconds left, the SHU players could only watch from half court while he took his free throws. After he made his second one he turned toward mid-court and clapped and high-stepped right toward them, while Corey and Mike were riling the fans up even more. That attitude is seriously necessary to get over the hump and create a culture of toughness.
I'm not big into schadenfreude, but I was yesterday due to the trash talking and rivalry (yes, yesterday started a legit rivalry between us and SHU because we needed to win one before we could call it a rivalry). Their board melted down and I loved that it was their board and not ours doing the melting. Eugene was the man with his hard-nosed, mentally tough, fvkc-you attitude, which contributed to us not folding down the stretch. While he was taking his free throws, the SHU players were stunned into finding a way to process the loss, and thanks to the students storming the court the SHU players just walked off the court. Might have been a good thing that the handshake line didn't happen. Great win, and I appreciate Omoruyi's attitude as much as anything I saw in our team, and there were a lot of good things.
