When I went to the OSU game last year, we were driving back to my brothers wife's house. We were listening to urban on the radio for his post game press conference. He was criticizing the 2nd and 3rd string that allowed us to gain yards on them in the 4th quarter.
This is the key difference I've noticed with great coaches. They don't allow a win to cloud their judgement of poor performance. Flood (and schiano) certainly don't fit in this group.
Urban Meyer also talked about his book: "Above the Line" and the "line" being average. He and his team have to strive to be above average every day. Francesa didn't kick us, because he was focused on UM.
I think it was all about Meyer and Ohio State and his philosophies. I only heard a few minutes but the part I did Meyer talked about the 10% elite on his team, the 80% who have to work at everything and the 10% who were lost. He said that latter group he would give opportunity to make amends but was not about taking time out from helping the other 90% to focus on that "bad" 10%. That struck me given the contrast to Flood who gives 2nd and 3rd chances and how he used horrible decision making with Barnwell and it turned out the rest of the team suffered. Its interesting that Meyer said something to the effect they recruit guys that "fit" into the Ohio State type of person and those that don't fit he encourages to leave. I think the contrast between he and Flood was so stark in how they manage and pay attention to detail in a program
Did Francesa talk about all the players arrested at Florida?
Great coach, great leader…winner, hall of famer.bac,I am not surprised that Fat Mike would be stupid enough to eat up this bullshit, but your believing it surprises me. If Aaron Hernandez and Will Hill didn't make Meyer's 10% "bad" crew, I have to wonder exactly how horrific those 10% were? BTW, there were more than 30 player arrests at Florida on Urban Meyer's watch.
Maybe when Urban's coaching days are done, he can co-anchor the news with Brian Williams.

I can't express to you in words how little I care. Please tell us all right now you wouldn't want Urban Meyer coaching Rutgers Football. He'd have the press eating out of his hand and the hated Star Ledger would treat him like a rock starTrue, but let's cut the bullshit that his charges have been model citizens. Maybe he is recruiting a higher caliber of person at tOSU than he did at Florida, but his recruits at FL had records that would make Darian Dailey or Dre Boggs blush.
So what your saying is Meyers thugs are better thugs than Floods thugs...True, but let's cut the bullshit that his charges have been model citizens. While I'm not completely sure I believe once he was hired he immediately requested that the recruiting standards at OSU be relaxed. I agree with you in that it's a click above Florida but he's recruiting borderline kids at OSU who are terrific athletes. Trust me he's not winning a NC with student athletes. However at the end of the day does it matter? He's a great coach, with great Coordinator's and great athletes. Right now Urban is hitting on all cylinders. But he better be careful because Saben and the tide will give him all he could handle in December.True, but let's cut the bullshit that his charges have been model citizens. [roll]On the other hand you have Flood who proof reads homework in his spare time. o_O
I don't think the "bad" in that context refers to character. I think it refers to football ability. Hence the 10% elite and 80% who have to work hard. People who aren't good enough football players, either because they are not elite or do not work hard enough are encouraged to leave.

Ha - some of this stuff is just so precious. "Leader of men"? We're talking about a football coach, not King Leonidas.
UM is one of the best football coaches of all time. He's not exactly raising a race of noble warrior-poets that are developing a cure for kid's cancer. At least not the majority that helped him win all those games. Sure, a walk-on from Poughkeepsie might go on to do great things for mankind and the universe, but we all know - that sh!t don't count.
Not interested in comparing rap sheets, it's so pedantic. The guy wins. Full stop. No need slobber over him with nonsense idolatry.
UM wins a lot of football games. They should erect a statue of him outside the stadium. Hmm, where have we seen that before...

I hear you. That was purposefully provocative. It's the internet - where boring is a bigger sin above all others. I'm just as bad, probably worse, than most here.I agree with you about the idolatry.
That said, I can think of about 30 men's football and basketball programs who have statues, named courts or fields after a program changing head coach. Only one of them enabled child rape.
Just as making UM into "King Leonidas" does nothing for the debate, so does creating a false dichotomy that honoring a program changing coach leads to a delusional, sycophantic fan base.
