My all time favorite RU player (in a tie with Douby)... Hes the reason I started following this program after I met him at a RU basketball camp when I was younger in the Waters days. Have not heard much about him since he left the banks. Anybody with info? Thanks.

He has kind of disappeared after leaving RU. I think he had a try out with one of the NBA team, perhaps Atlanta but I might be wrong. I know I have a basketball card of him somewhere from one of the sets when he was hoping to catch on with the NBA. I don't think I've heard of him since.

I met Ricky Shields at a party when we were in college. Upon leaving early he shook everyone's hand and said, "Peace, love, and marijuana." He was a character. Wish him the best.

I met ricky when I was about 10/11 years old at Gary Waters basketball camp. I wore my 2004 NIT shirt and he absolutely loved it, he looked at my shirt for like 5 minutes seeing all the teams in the tournament. He was my instructor for one of the drills but he played 1v1 against the older kids. I got to go up against adrian hill, who subsequently dunked on me

Ricky is one of my greatest enigmas as far as former players of the recent past....

Wish I had some solid info for you. I had heard his playing career was cut short by a health issue (not an injury), then just sort of vanished.

I've reached out to him a couple of times , but got no response. He doesn't have a Facebook or Twitter account that I am aware of either.

Love getting nostalgic. So I googled Ricky Shields - who I loved as a player - and came across an article from the Trentonian from November 2000 - whereby the writer quotes Bob Gibbons - a reputable College BB Recruiting guru - who communicated - that Rutgers' recruiting class of Shields; Juel Wiggan and Jason McCoy is a top 3 class in the Big East and Top 25 nationally with McCoy possibly the jewel of the class. I always thought Shields had such a sweet stroke. Can't believe it was 17 years ago when Shields and Company came to Rutgers to play Guard alongside Todd Billet and Mike Sherrodd.

Played a little in Germany 2010-11 and that seemed to be it for basketball--he is now 35. Seemed to be a lot of talk that Quincy Douby made Ricky Shield's senior year kind of unpleasant. A shame.
