Apparently 2-20 vs winning teams is awesome, as per our fanbase..

not sure how accurate that stat is but it might be close to it

its a horrible record and yet its spun away. I think when he beat Maryland (his best win) people went go go ga ga over it. Its not about tonight. Its about failure to make an impact behind the mediocre schools, how can anyone have confidence that this is not more than a 7-5/6-6 type program under Flood. The results speak for themselves

No one is saying Flood is great. That said, if you're going to replace Flood with an unproven Terry Shea-type coach because all we can pony up is a 1.3 million salary, then I say no thanks and wait til we get more B1G money.

Flood has as many 30+ point losses as Terry Shea did.

j/k no one has as many 30+ point losses as Shea did.

Nobody is questioning that a Flood is a 7-5/6-6 type coach. What many are saying is at our price point you have no guarantee you will do better and could end up much worse. That is why pre "scandal" I was for keeping Flood until we could spend 4 million year. Our next guy will probably be in the 2.5 range and that is right in the crapshoot price range.

The ghost of Terry shea continues to haunt the nightmares of too many of our fans. It's time to put that spirit to rest. He's gone 15 years now. The odds are higher that we would replace Fludd with what turns out to be another mediocrity than they are that we would replace him with a disaster.

Listening to those fans "shoot the cannon" and the commentators piling on hurt. It was like we are freak show and everyone is making fun of us.

Seeing the stadium on TV completely empty at the end was sad.

If something isn't done quickly it's right back to the late 90s / early 2000s: sparse crowd. It's too expensive to pay for guaranteed blowouts.

the event on national tv in prime night was about as bad as it could get. The team didn't show up , Flood coached like a buffoon as usual, the whole nation heard about his suspension again and the home invasion/assault of 6 players, the stadium environment was like a funeral and we were mocked by the broadcasters at the end. May want to revisit the thread earlier in the week titled "This is why we are in the B1G".

As someone who's followed this team all his life, (well, since I was 4 anyway, so that's 54 years), it's sickening to see RU slide toward what I thought we were finally free of for good; being regarded as one of the "punch line" programs of college football.

Can't help but think back to the RU/L'ville game of '06 and remember how terrific it was to be in the stands and feel that enduring decade after decade of the horror shows and pathetic performances of the past had been worth it. That we were finally beyond that, and even if we weren't world beaters every season from then on out, we were at least going to be decent enough to be regarded with a certain degree of respect.

Man, that amazing November night seems like a distant memory now, and the wise cracks and jokes about Rutgers football seem as though they're coming right back into style.

Hey, I love this team and could never root for anybody else, but seeing what's going on with this program, (and the perception of it), is truly a shame and something I hoped would never happen again.

The expectations of a good portion of our fan base have always been questionable. The rationalization of keeping Flood because the administration isn't going to spend the money to hire a replacement we are certain will be better may be true but pathetic. I really am beginning to question why I continue with season tickets if this is the actual environment in which we operate. I only have two seats and don't tailgate so its all about the game to me and the couch is looking more attractive as an alternative.

I wouldn't keep using a tax accountant that costs me money by missing deductions because "at least" he didn't get me investigated by the IRS. I wouldn't keep going to a doctor I don't like because "at least" he isn't one of those doctors that kills people with medical mistakes. I wouldn't keep using a mechanic who needs multiple attempts to fix my car because "at least" my engine doesn't seize after I leave his garage.

The idea that we should keep Flood because "at least" he isn't Terry Shea is unfathomable to me.

Let's get some perspective here. We played the #1 team in the country yesterday, and yes it sucked getting the doors blown off us and there needs to be some accountability on both the players and the coaching staff. That being said that was a very dominant Ohio State team yesterday from top to bottom. They are a very dynamic offensive team with Barrett and kill you so many ways. We were getting beat at the line, they had a pro RB, a Mike Vick like QB, and WR who looked great - they also had similar dominance on the other side of the ball. That is what happens when you not only have a 5 star coach recruiting 5 star players, but you have a school recruit itself. No, we didn't show up yesterday, but I hate to break it to people - barring an outlier here and there we will never be an Ohio State. When a power school like that is firing on all cylinders it's an extremely tough mountain to climb - that being said, again, we do need to a long look in the mirror.

Sorry its always a crapshoot. You risk failure to reap reward. How long do youthink fans will pay for medoicre. You will see it withe Nebby and MD attendence and next years season ticket sales

Flood has actually 4 wins against winning teams....Maryland, Cincy, Navy, and Syracuse.

He is 0-10 against ranked teams.

And morons on this board say we can do no better or that Schiano was worse?

Bowling Green has beaten more B1G wins than us this year!

This thread was made to call out other fans, nothing more. The entire premise is a straw man as no one is touting Flood's spectacular record. What they are doing is taking ownership of the fact that RU is not an ATM that flows continual money to pay through coaching mistakes. Some realize this and others are happy to point fingers as if they have mommy and daddy continually pick up the tab on their lives.

Not sure why people are calling out other fans. Flood will be evaluated at the end of the season and may very well be replaced. Hearing that Flood should be fired after every game is both old and a waste of time. OSU is #1 and we are somewhere about 80. Not sure why people were expecting a miracle and using the lack of miracle to point to a reason to fire the coach. If I'm the AD, At this point I would likely replace him after the season, But that is after the season and there is still football left to play. No need to call out other fans based on getting blown out by #1.

did you read all the posts from last week. Lots of posters touting the Indiana win as some sort of achievement and sign that the program was moving forward. The lovefest after the game shows how low or how no expectations some have as a fanbase. The loss last night isn't anything new it just shifts the board back to some reality of where we sit. Flood can eek out 6-6 every year, we know that. Just because he can do that does not mean we have to wait 6 years. I am just tired of the bogus analysis some brightsiders have about the program being built. Its not. At best we are just floating above water at mediocrity.

Last week was a great comeback win on the road against a program much closer to RU in terms of standings and support. People on this board were happy and expressed it. That's what many football fans do after wins. Perhaps you don't understand this because you seem to be a perpetually miserable type.

The interesting dynamic is that you complain about others who are happy with a win and point to them accepting mediocrity........yet other than offering your opinion ad nauseum on a message board, what are you doing about it that is any different than the " brightsiders" as you call them?

Made a similar comment as I was walking out with 14 mins to go last night. An OSU fan overheard me and asked if that was really the case. All he could do was shake his head when I responded yes. I'm jealous of how foreign that must be to him.

we beat Indiana...I liked it...it was a must win but it seems that suddenly that is the new standard. Indiana will have a losing season and not make a bowl. Nothing wrong about being happy with a win but since when is beating a bottom feeder a sign of progress.. Beat Wisconsin or beat Nebraska and then we will see some progress being made but until then beating the likes of Indiana and Maryland and Army are status quo. Failing to beat Penn State or Washington State are signs of the program stagnating not improving.

Let's go easy on the "team did not show up statement". Players like Cioffi, Agudoshi and Patten had good games. Gause and Longa made numerous tackles on Defense. We played the #1 team in the nation who showed why they are number one. Our depth took a huge hit with all the suspensions. Not an excuse just a fact. You cannot put an inexperienced young secondary out there against Ohio State. The kids will learn. Debate whether Flood will coach next year. Debate will Julie spend big time money on a coach. Let's not say "the team" did not show. Not fair to many on the team.

Your posts are very thoughtful and well articulated. Just thought I'd mention.

Comments that Gause and Longa made numerous tackles equates to a good game is a little over board.Ohio State was manhandling Rutgers defensive line and of course the linebackers are next in line,The issue is where the tackles are made .The facts are that Ohio State made touchdowns on four play drives and were unstoppable after the first quarter.

Wow I never debated Ohio State was unstoppable after the first quarter. I saw it firsthand. With that said Longa and Gause played well. Not their fault that Ohio State OL made huge holes for their running game. I shutter to think what the score would have been if we did not have Gause and Longa. Again the point is players on the team certainly did show up but get overlooked by the score.

You're only ever as good as the coaches and players you've got, and any school is potentially just a couple of years away from going from good to bad or bad to good. The difference being that at a storied program with money if you mess up selecting a coach you just buy him out, hire a new one, reset the table, and try again.

When Indiana and Maryland can combine for 55 points against that defense, I sure can expect more than having to wait til the last 10 seconds of the game to score a TD against the third team defense.

Can't wait til this 4-8 season is finished and our best recruits bail on us for other schools again.

Don't really disagree with your premise, but the unfortunate thing is that as long as things remain status quo, the further we'll fall behind, and the harder it will be for us to catch up.

As has been stated before by others on the board, football takes a lot more bodies, and as a result, time to really make a positive shift in direction than basketball, where just a year or two of excellent recruiting can make a definitive difference, and that really concerns me.

0 BCS bowls and conference championships is apparently worthy of a rehire.

If RU's willing to put up the money for a HC and staff that can bring in recruits and make RU FB competitive with the better programs, 2-20 is a great reason to replace Kyle.
If the money won't be there, RU will get what they pay for just like their getting now.

Flood deserves to go based on this year, but signing another bargain basement HC before
funds are available to bring in a decent one and staff might make matters worse with a 5 year contract on the cheap hire and discount priced staff.
Get the funds to bring in a good one and give that HC enough to hire a decent staff and then RU has a chance to improve.
As it is, pay less than the going rate for a good HC and staff , you'll stay a poor program longer than if you gave Flood one more year while trying to drum up the money to buy him out and pay market price for the better HCing candidates , RU would stand a better chance to become a better program quicker then dumping Flood and hiring on the cheap.
Flood needs to go, but RU needs to get the money to hire a good replacement, not replace him on the cheap just to replace him.

Wow, I was bashed pretty badly for saying pretty much the same thing last week.

The hilarious thing is that the game started with Fowler stating that Flood was suspended for a Rutgers policy that Flood said he didn't know about.....Flood is a clown, the statements he has made since being suspened have been disingenious at best and IMO, flat out lies...the investigation and his actions showed he was clearly aware of the policy, yet he did it anyway. He should be fired simply for continuing to lie about his actions. I'd have more respect for him if he just admitted he screwed up...instead we keep getting this blatant lie over and over again.

We all know Flood needs to go and we all know we don't have the money to fire him and hire a real replacement and strong supporting staff.

Stop complaining about it on a message board. Increase your donation and then complain about people complaining about it without increasing their donation.

At least that's what I just did.
