B1G Member Minnesota announces Athletic Village

A website that articulates athletic pride, online donations and a vision...what is Minnesota thinking?!

I would think the Minnesota rendering along with a plan for paying for the Athletic Village is a creative idea that Rutgers should quickly replicate which would at least give Jordan something positive to show future recruits.

Whatever this costs in Minnesota will cost triple in NJ. Minnesota had only about one third the corruption found in NJ.

Every other school in the p5 can do this, but we can't. Boo Hoo us. What crap. Invest now

At least it doesn't include residence halls to completely isolate their student athletes from the rest of the student body. It would be interesting to hear how other students there feel about the perks going to the athletes.

I was going to say the same thing. Training, tutoring, practice ... all facilities that make sense, no different than a good rehearsal hall for the music department or a decent studio space for dance (if you have it). But separating "student-athletes" from the rest of the population is often what leads to trouble.

Even if they are not, they should be treated as students first. The more time they spend isolated from "regular" students the more resentment is going to build. And if they don't win -- and win big -- that resentment multiplies by roughly a factor of the amount spent.
