And RU now has 5 in the Portal with Lobach adding his name...

I think a transfer that is a walk on, is obviously viewed differently....I am not sure if these transfer portals include walkons or not, since they aren't counting against the scholarship totals.

They are - and they don't call them out. There is no way I can tell whether someone in the portal is currently on scholarship or not (at least from the VerbalCommits site). UT Martin has 16 players in the portal, for instance.... can't all be on scholarship.

How is Minnesota going to field a team? The entire team is transferring.

They certainly have a lot of work to do building their roster....

Guys in the portal by minutes played....
1038 - Marcus Carr (RS Jr)
645 - Gabe Kalscheur (Jr)
641 - Jamal Mashburn (Fr)
568 - Liam Robbins (Jr)
502 - Tre Williams (So)
124 - Sam Freeman (So)
69 - Jarvis Omersa (Jr)
23 - Martice Mitchell (Fr)

Possibly/likely returning:
723- Johnson (Sr... if he takes an additional year)
657 - Gach (Jr)
458 - Curry (Sr... if he takes an additional year)
414 - Ihnen (So)
9 - Mutaf (Fr)

Added from the portal:
612 - Luke Loewe (Sr) at William & Mary
548 - Jamison Battle (So) at George Washington
486 - EJ Stephens (Sr) at Lafayette

Incoming freshmen
Treyton Thompson (center)
Kenny Pohto (center)

Updates:

- Xavier Johnson from Pitt to Indiana. Good get
- Race Thompson remaining at Indiana
- Aarmon Franklin to Virginia via Indiana

I think Iowa as I read that his uncle who was an asst. at Minnesota is now on the Iowa staff. I would rather see him go to Vanderbilt.

It sounds like his uncle is getting hired at Vandy. Robbins grew up in Davenport, IA which is about an hour from Iowa City.

Patience works for elite programs who can cherry pick but at Rutgers level its better to attack early in recruiting.

Are you sure that’s true or are you just being impatient? Remember Pikiell wants the right fit. I hope we get some commitments soon too and am feeling impatient but I’m trusting the coaching staff.

There's no evidence that being 1st with an increasing pool of players, means you are better off....there are 5 to 10 kids hit the portal this week that I think wouls have been nice fits at RU or at the school they already committed to, that are better than some of the kids who have already entered the portal and committed.

There were a couple of instances last year where kids committed to schools as grad transfers and then decommitted because that same school then wanted to pursue another kid at the same position OR brought in a spring signing kid from HS.

Kids, very talented ones, are going be left without a program once this is all said and done. Some lower level schools may have a great opportunity to capitalize on the high number of kids in the portal and the extra year not counting against the totals for teams with 5th year kids.

Remember, the extra year, often referred to as the Covid year, doesn't count against the scholarship limit if they use the covid year at their current school.

If they transfer to another school they count against the 13 scholarship limit.

Gardner kid a PF from East Carolina to UVA--------was a kid I was hoping RU was in on.

Thought it was a position of need and a guy who would fit here. Ditto Noah Gurley from Furman who committed to Bama. Saw those 2 play a number of times this winter.

One of Bama's commits has asked for his release-----JC kid----6'9 originally from PA.
