Every program has outrecruited RU over the last 4 to 5 years, so even as some teams are down in the standings (Indiana, Ohio State Illinois), their rosters as of today are as good as RU's....all 3 programs made hires that they believe can get them to the top half of the conference again.
The only hope is RU can steal games against more talented rosters like Illinois Penn State, Nebraska and finds a way to defeat Ohio State more than once, to continue the momentum on the recruiting trail.... The recruiting success based on RU's history is a great story because we now have a staff that will do something with the talent here and because it should eliminate the losing seasons most years.
RU actually is probably 3 legitimate recruits away from eliminating this notion that RU will not be picked last (these recruits are on top of Mathis, Carter, Doucoure, Baker, Harper and the transfer in of Peter Kiss)....And Sanders would need to improve to a point this season where he is consistently scoring at 15-16 PPG and staying through his senior season to change the notion that RU isn't going to finish or be picked for last next year.
RU actually needs to steal a late recruit that fits into the starting lineup or Top 8 rotation this spring, to avoid being picked last next year.....while Mathis and Carter project to be as good as Mike Williams and Freeman, you are asking a top 80 freshman to match an experienced senior in Williams and Carter to match or exceed Freeman. There are some potential options that I think can help, but the recruiting dominoes would need to fall into place next spring.
