Watched all 3 this week and was impressed by each one despite Toledo losing a close game. I must say, that if I had my pick it would be Fleck. Despite the fact that Babers and Campbell may have an edge on him in game day X's and O's coaching, I don't think the margin is huge, and I feel like Fleck has the "it" factor. I think he has the look, enthusiasm, and charisma necessary to win a few recruiting battles against the likes of Meyer, Harbough, and Franklin. The RU job is just as much of a sales job as it is a coaching job, and Fleck possesses all the attributes that it requires. The fact that he spent 2 years here, has members of his staff that spent time here, is familiar with the culture, and is familiar with some members of our current staff I think makes for a very smooth transition and give him the edge over the above mentioned candidates in my opinion.

Fleck
Hazell
Cubit
Mario
(er Flood)

5 guys that were/are Head Coaches from Greg's staff's. Guess he has some good folks working with him.

Out of those 3 I still like Babers the best.

There's something missing from Cambell for me. I think it's probably because he's never won his division let alone the conference. They've lost to NIU 6 times in a row (sounds like WVU) and he's been there for 4 of them and when I look he seems to have trouble beating the top teams in his division losing more than not against whoever the top teams on his side are.

Fleck I've said plenty of times I'm not a fan of the antics and the lack of coordinator experience. I still need to see more from him. His next 3 games will be the real meat of his schedule this year. I'd like to see how he does there and if he can win his division and the conference.

BTW I should mention my personal opinions on the lack of coordinator experience. It doesn't have to be an issue depending on the circumstances. Like I say I take each situation on a case by case basis. It was brought up Urban Meyer/Art Briles never had coordinator experience. But to me that's just looking at things on their face and not looking deeper.

Urban Meyer might not have been a coordinator but I completely believe he's the driving force behind his team's philosophies of what they run and how they run it and is definitely involved in the strategy of it all. He's lost coordinators but he's replaced them and still done well, to me that shows he's really the driving force behind it all.

As to Briles, he was known for his high flying offenses in Texas HS, similar to Chad Morris/Gus Malzahn. They happen to have stops at coordinator in college and Briles had a short stop with Leach at position coach at TT. He left to go to Houston to try his philosophies from HS and TT and see if they'd work and obviously they have. So while he might not have been a coordinator he was the guy running the show and orchestrating it all at Houston and now beyond.

Do you believe that about Fleck? I don't personally. I just see a showman and antics. He better have good guys under him. Flood is another. Brady Hoke is another. I'll even reverse it. Golden was a coordinator on defense but I don't see him as some X/O guru who's on top of everything with regards to strategy, philosophy and how to put his players in positions to excel. So he had coordinator experience but in my mind I still see CEO coach who needs to choose his coordinators well.

So again look at it case by case and see what they've done in their careers rather than just taking a cursory surface look.

Bowling Green and WMU play each other next week. Could be a fun game to watch. I hope Julie will be watching. Someone give her a heads up.
