Barchi to Blink (Again)

I have no idea what's true and what's not. I get the feeling most here don't either.

What I do believe is true is no college president would keep Flood if there was a way around it. And the reason Barchi can't falls squarely on the Alums and I'm sure many posters here who don't support the school financially the way alums across the country do theirs. If Flood stays on it's purely a financial decision, nothing else.

Just look at what we're hearing out of LSU. Their boosters at least put their money where their mouths are. Here people are talking about hurting the school and program's bottom line even more because the don't get their way.

lol - more rumors

I'm sticking w/my 60/40 prediction that he stays. I won't be surprised regardless of what happens, but my take on the situation continues to lead me to believe that the RU admin will make a dispassionate decision based mostly on their own financial analysis, coaching market analysis, and sense of spending priorities.

If he does stay, that means the admin has concluded that the financial hit taken by retaining Flood for next year is not what many here believe it will be. Because, as the saying goes, it's the money, stupid.

But things change, sometimes very quickly. There are lots of variables. So any claim that any decision is set in stone is silly. I don't care what rumors people hear regardless of the source(s). Because there are a lot of variables in the math for the financial analysis, and because there are several projections required in that analysis, there are a number of things that could change the minds of the people making decisions and that could happen pretty late in the game.

Thus, I'm sticking with 60/40. I don't think the MD game results are likely to be a big factor. I think larger factors will be things we'll never hear about or see (like private funding discussions, conversations w/potential new coaches, etc.).

One thing's for sure, it will be an interesting weekend as we watch to see what happens. My bet is that, win or lose, we don't hear anything at until at least Sunday or maybe Monday. But I wouldn't bet more than a quarter on it.

Nothing makes me happier than meltdowns based on nothing than a guy throw s*** against the wall.
Doesn't make me happy; I'm already happy. But it does provide for some comic entertainment. Maybe it's been like this all along, but I have this sense that reality-TV has infected the nation with drama-queen-itis. lol

I do not believe the medical school merger is going as well as people think down in the trenches. Internally there were huge mistakes made when the transition initially happened. This has cost this university quite a bit. Yes I know you have a 3.7 billion dollar budget but you also need every bit of it to survive. I'm not a troll and I'm not looking to flame, but the only way he brings in a better coach and crew is by borrowing the money or Reappropriating funds from some other internal source and HE IS NOT GOING TO CATCH HEAT FROM FACULTY, BOT and the Star-Ledger. JMHO

Whatever the final decision is, I just hope it's made quickly. By Sunday night either fire Flood or declare him the coach for next year, but don't let it drag out for weeks.

The winds have taken a dramatic shift. Multiple good sources have all collaborated that Barchi has or will blink again and will not be making any changes. Flood will return next year and probably be back in 2017 even if he goes 1-10. Barchi does not want to make the spend nor does he have the stomach to potentially expose his athletic department over this report. Of course this could be wrong and Barchi could decide to grow a pair and actually pull the string but all indications are that he will not. He will instead kick the can down the road.

If true, this is a dramatic shift which will cement that Barchi and the RU administration can care less about anything more than mediocrity. In my view, it sends a horrible message to donors and season ticket holders that you may as well wait for a new President and the BIG money to come in. Until then, it's ok if we suck so long as we get to "revenue neutral"

I would also expect no changes to the staff after hearing this. We all get another year of the wonderful defensive prowess of the likes of Rossi. A sad day for all who strive to actually see RU win.

Who are the sources?

The info might not stay correct, but this information, as of now, is correct. Live with it. You are either a Rutgers supporter or a front runner. Most of us agreed Flood was a guy you could get behind a few precious months ago. What changed? We were a couple bounces here or there from having 6 wins right now, two against top 20 teams. Last year, we were a couple bounces away from looking more like we do this year. Yea, we lost our starting secondary to off the field issues. We lost Flood for 3 games. We lost Carroo for a bunch. Hamilton was never quite healthy

This was a very tough year. We had no qb. There is a reason Rettig did not play. Maybe a change at HC would be an upgrade, maybe not. But this is what we've got. He's got a very nice class coming in. We do this for fun and to have an excuse to visit campus and see our friends. Rutgers fans say they deserve better, but they don't. They are, for the most part, fair weather fans, except for the 10-15k who will be in the stadium not booing the coach on fking senior day. That group deserves better. The rest of you deserve a crappy return.

If Flood is kept as head coach for next season due to failure with financing and the coaching pool, the Rutgers football program will lose millions of dollars from the fanbase and any donations from me. I may consider keeping my season ticket for the priority points, and would wait and see whether Rutgers takes steps towards competitive and hopefully winning football in the future.

If the bolded part occurs, however, that would be a crystal-clear middle finger from the administration to the fanbase and donors alike. Maintaining status quo with the entire coaching staff after the results of this year would be nothing short of mind boggling. I wouldn't renew and would have more free time on fall Saturday's if that ended up being the case.

Meh. As soon as the 12/31 renewal deadline comes & goes he's going to have to spend $1.4 million on phone reps to try and get those 20,000 season tickets back.

Time for another gofundme. Let them keep shutting them down
There's no chance whatsoever that they will lose 20,000 season tix for next year. They would lose some for sure, and it would hurt. But 20K? I don't think so.

Maybe we'll get an awesome new coaching staff and we'll never find out.

Every day that Barchi or Hermann don't give Flood a vote of confidence is another day that they haven't decided to keep him. If they decide to keep him, they would quickly give a vote of confidence to kill rumors that he is on the hot seat. If they've already decided to fire him, or if they haven't made a decision, they won't say anything before Saturday's game.

Silencer may be trolling, but silence is golden.

Very sane, realistic post. I would very much like to see RU invest heavily in becoming competitive in the Big Ten and I've never thought Flood was going to be able to be the guy. But at the end of the day, it's relatively inexpensive entertainment for us fans; not some life or death thing.

Nonetheless, you're going to get attacked for not toeing the line put forth by the haters. Gird your loins. LOL

Let's be real here, if this happens Barchi will be cementing his place and Rutgers place as a complete joke, and that's the legacy he will be leaving behind (of course this only matters in the sports world, but unfortunately that's what matters for alot of people).

exactly...and you really think they would let that PSA run if they had already decided he was coming back. Perhaps its one last piece of evidence along with the 30K empty seats in the stadium that will cement him being fired. Don't underestimate the power of a booing crowd, empty stadium and a loss to Maryland as the closing argument to the case against him

Anger is quickly turning into irrelevancy.
Actually I'm amazed at myself, at one time I was so consumed with Rutgers Football it was probably unhealthy, bordering on obsession.
One man has made it all irrelevant.
IMO, anger should be irrelevant. For two reasons.

First, basing decisions on anger (or other emotions) is dumb. Sports fans are generally bipolar. They're angry one minute, joyous the next (just look at the in-game threads). Basing business decisions on the emotions of bipolar fans would be moronic. The decisions should be made based on dispassionate analysis, and I'm sure they will be.

Second, it's a freaking football game. It's entertainment. This is not, in the grand scheme of things, a very important thing to be losing one's temper over. People who actually get angry about this stuff need a sense of perspective or to attend anger management counseling.

And I'm someone who would like to see RU invest in a new coaching staff. But I can't imagine getting angry over it. I think people who've written that apathy is the real danger here are correct. I won't get angry but I could easily grow apathetic and seek other forms of entertainment.

I've been reading this board for over a decade. I'm still amazed by how many believe when a guy with 350 posts comes on board and says the coach is getting canned with three weeks to go on the season and then get upset when the same guy says it's not happening 2 weeks later. Pretty funny.

That was my same thinking back in 1999 when not only was Terry Shea not fired, but they extended his contract. I cancelled my season tickets then.
Have you renewed them or attended any games since then? Or watched the games on TV?

If Barchi is the one with all the power then what exactly is the role of our AD??? If there isnt any money isnt it her job to raise it? Im starting to see where the rumors of her not being trusted to make any decisions are coming from.

Personally I'm buying RUsilencers report that a decision has been made to keep Flood by the RU Administration.

They would not wait until the Maryland game to make a snap decision about Floods future.

Until now I expected Flood to be fired. Im now convinced that he stays for next season.

LOL. YOU LOST ME AT FRONT RUNNER....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

if Flood is back you can take my -6 tix to the bank. F the priority points. I don't sit between the 20's anyway.

So the school can lose a 37 year guy for the first time thru all this BS over the years...fine. (and yeah, I already DID email Julie).

I cannot tell you how much I hope this is just BS...

I feel 100% exactly as Zappaa stated. I didn't go to a couple of game this year (first time VERY long time and I didn't miss anything but more train wreck coaching and play). I can find other stuff to do and teams to watch. I will be done. I'll spot buy and attend here and there.

You're changing your mind based on a post from some anonymous guy on an internet forum? LOL

And I agree that they aren't going to make a snap decision. They've undoubtedly been considering things for awhile now. But that doesn't mean they've concluded the decision making process and there could be many reasons for them to delay that final decision.

But the OP is living in Alexander Library. That's where Barchi and company hang out. So he must be in the know.

I'm not sure if you're withholding premium information, but this post is a lot of words that don't say very much, or just happen to skip over pretty important issues. Yeah, we "lost Flood for 3 games"...that's a nice way of putting it! It's not like he suddenly fell ill, he got caught being a scumbag and was suspended (and should have been shitcanned immediately). "There is a reason Rettig did not play"...other than he's not Chris Laviano? We are "fair weather fans"? So we're just supposed to take this abortion of an administration with a smile on our faces & keep coughing up over a grand per year for tickets, parking, and "mandatory donations"?

There is a difference in not being trusted and not given the tools to do the job.
When Mulcahy was the AD, the RU President (McCormick) gave him the tools and backed him completely.
Barchi has set financial limits and Julie ( along with Pernetti before her) has to make due with what the Athletic Department is allowed to spend and what she can raise from boosters that aren't known to be generous.

Decisions like letting Flood go sometimes are based on finances as much as performance and the lack of decision power might not be true.

I was told the same thing as the OP a few hours ago. I was also told by two separate people 20 minutes ago that info is no longer true. Just off the top of my head
* Going 0-1 with EVERY SINGLE member of the #RUDreamTeam16
* Attempting to influence a professor to change a failed grade from a spring semester Dance Appreciation class and telling reporters you were waiting on a summer grade
* Either not knowing that 6 members of the team were under investigation by Middlesex County or knowing and having them participate in summer practice knowing they would be kicked off the team
* Suspending a quarterback for a half a game against an FCS opponent for violating state law and rewarding that suspended quarterback with the starting job.
* Putting on a farce about a competition for quarterback knowing that the job was going to go to the kid who happened to be from a NY prep school instead of a national recruit that came to Rutgers specifically because of the depth issue.
* Leaving that quarterback even though it has been over a month since he has thrown a touchdown and can only complete passes to an early round draft pick wide receiver.
* Attempting to give his sugar daddy a recruiting coordinator position even though his only qualification is he has expressed a willingness to pay the head coach.

I could probably come up with more, but that's enough for me.

the fact is only the most important people truly know whats going down. There are a lot of factions around Rutgers and some of them are pro Flood and some of them are bullshitters. Some just get the kicks of saying I know something you don't know...the fact is intel changes constantly and is always given with biases. The only thing we know is that the decision hasn't been made either way.

No, before we lost some games this year, we were like brothers in arms against Keith Sargent for writing about what Flood did. Now it's being used by all the same people to pile on. Give me a break. You want a real boy scout in here all of a sudden? I'm encouraged to have a guy who isn't afraid to cheat a little bit. You wont tolerate cheating, then you are the one who accepts mediocrity.
