Barchi to Blink (Again)

---------
The number of posts a person has is probably not a great indicator of the persons connections....... We probably have a number of quiet, but connected posters around.

Today might be a situation here similar to a couple of years ago, when we won that late season S Fla game....just like this year we had fans calling for Floods head, some hoping to lose that game, but we did not

So, we had two things happen then, we had the coach do just enough to remain, plus the fact that we could not raise enough money if we wanted to make a big hire anyway.... It is pretty well known we looked around that year.

Today's situation might be no different..... Julie and/or Barchi knows the dollars and cents of this, and this time we have the president even less likely to want to change, and spend, it seems....And Flood might limp to the finish with a two game winning streak..... The coaching drama winds up with the same result.

The connected poster first reports that a change is coming, but then the late season wins coupled with financial reality causes a sudden reversal
I'm not saying he is going or staying but winning against Army and Maryland is not changing the decision this time. That is why I think the OP's post is just a bunch of b.s. We all understand what happened last time. A change of mind won't happen because of the arrests and investigation. Barchi is not gonna stand up and say we were gonna fire flood because of the arrests, the barnwell scandal and a bunch of doctored drug tests but decided to keep him on because the team beat army and a last place Maryland team. Good luck with that logic!

My question is Barchi and Herman obviously know the whole world is speculating about Flood, they could end this in about three seconds by saying Flood is coming back. That they have not said that, means he is gone, imv. I just wish Barchi and Herman would be fired,, too.

You could actually bring on Schiano, and keep the rest of the staff, since he is already familiar with most of the assistants anyways, having already worked with them. Rossi needs a mentor like Schiano, IMO.

I was not the biggest fan of Gary at the end but think he may have changed enough to be worth a second look. Like many I certainly would take him back in a heartbeat right now. But no way he comes here without bring in his own staff. (if would even be interested in the first place)

Only way you can keep staff is if Wilson is promoted 1 year...throw away year but a change.

That is assuming that they want him fired for the minor transgressions and not the results on the field and recruiting trail. If the powers that be decide a 5-7 record with a bunch of blowouts to any team with a pulse are good enough results then they will stay with the status quo. Firing for cause is just another example of RU being cheap.

It's been said before but bears repeating. The only reason to keep Flood at this point, is if you see him growing into the job. I don't, but that's my opinion. But his decisions should make anyone with ANY football IQ scratch their heads.

-- we need to develop our quarterback, so despite missteps, he needs to play

BUT

-- we need to rotate our stock of RBs to keep them fresh and make sure they get to play.

These two statements are so paradoxical it's almost insane.

Individual plays/decisions, like a fake punt from our own 28 yard line, lead me to believe that this guy doesn't have the basic clue with regards to risk/ reward evaluation. This is not a game PLAN, it is a gamble.

Now, IF Barchi won't respond to protect the integrity of the Academic arm of our University, I am quite certain that he doesn't give a rat's "tail" about what happens athletically. If he was brought in to guide the merger, then he needs to get done and then get gone, because what he is doing is a disgrace both academically and athletically. Maybe that's it one buffoon doesn't recognize that the other is also a buffoon.

If Flood comes back, I will not be buying tickets anymore. I might still see what the score is on twitter and stuff and post here just in case any news breaks about him getting replaced.

It will be very hard to give a damn if Rutgers itself doesn't give a damn about the football program.

If they are not even trying to win or improve then why should I or anyone else care?

I've been meaning to ask this. What leads anyone to believe that once we have our full share of Big Ten money that money will be spent on athletics?
Really interesting question. Answer: Absolutely nothing.

RU athletics has pigged out your years, and people are keeping score. If you don't think other piggies will come out to feed at the B1G trough, it's time to pass the dutchie, you're baked.

I'm not 100% sold that change is not happening.
Wonder if Barchi got cold feet after seeing the lawyer bill for the investigation. Rutgers loves to pay lawyers and law firms.
Also wonder if Rutgers put out feelers and there was insufficient interest from targets or if Rutgers could not meet their asking price.

RU is the Spirit Airlines of the Big 10 under Barchi. Just wait until next week when nothing changes. We can lose to Maryland by 40 and he isn't going to care. We thought he would. We hoped he would. Short of a change of heart or GB making the ultimate call, not gonna happen.

The only way this happens is if Barchi is willing to take a shot that this termination is for cause. It may very well be for cause but will cause other things to come to light. The report has the juice but that doesnt mean it will be signed off with it. It is this factor that changed my view and the view of many others in the know yesterday.

Now could Barchi say to hell with it and go all in??? He could and would hope he would. However he doesn't seem to have the intestinal fortitude or care to do it.

It all depends on how you look at it, but no one will be taking Big Ten money DIRECTLY.

Rather the $36 million that Rutgers is dumping into the AD every year now will be mostly gone. Minus Student fees. Lets pretend that is $6 million

So if we get $40 million per year from TV, we are really only getting $10 million extra than we do now.

We are NOT getting $40 million on top of the $36 million, I do not think that anyone here is stupid enough to think that. At least I sure hope not!

Or the boosters are asking for a coach like Jim Tressel. 2013 redux.

Barchi will protect Julie at all cost. Flood supporters knew this and pulled a fast one on him.

Actually I think it would be closer to 20M extra give or take. Before all these expenses the subsidy was 28M. 10M from student fees and 18M actual subsidy. So I take it back to that time and 40M -18M puts you in the vicinity of 20M extra. It could be a few million more or less but around there.

Barchi and the powers WILL CARE. They will care when they see a half empty stadium.

At this point the only message they will hear is if fans stop going to the stadium. I'm not advocating it, as I always believe a loyal son should support the program and the team no matter what - through thick and thin. But half empty stadiums and apathy is inevitable. IN-EVI-TA-BLE.

Interesting logic:

  • You believe Barchi and Julie saying nothing indicates that they will fire Flood.
  • You wish Barchi and Julie would be fired too.

So you want Barchi and Julie fired because they are going to fire Flood? I'd want them to get a pat on the back for firing Flood.

So now we have internet posters with "knowledge" who have said that both things will happen: Flood's firing and Flood's retention. I'm sure that these will each be backed up by the usual "situation is fluid," "my information was solid at the metaphysical moment I received it," "just reporting what I hear," "I'm not responsible for putting any thought into what this actually means before I post about it" justifications.

Who knows what we'll "hear" before Monday. It's good to see that the internet is alive and well.

Or the boosters are asking for a coach like Jim Tressel. 2013 redux.
I suspected this would happen all along. Rutgers loves pissing away money on lawyers and law firms, but when it comes to taking action, they like to cower under the cover of the legal opinions and the bills that come with it.
I'm in for 4 more season tickets either way next year. The question is how much I will donate beyond the seat gift. I'm thinking $0.

it is simple..and it is not the incidents and it is not the record. The coaching SUCKS and his decisions regarding the QB play are horrible and RB rotation is a close 2nd. He is a bullcrapper saying "best chance to win". He doesn't even want to try to win leaving this guy in game after game.

Saying it is or it isn't, but what if the fact is that the backup quarterback does not have it going on upstairs and the entire team supports the starting quarterback and does not want the back up in the game. Would your outlook on the quarterback situation be any different?

I hope the administration isn't doubting the half full stadium idea. In 2013 when RU was struggling in the AAC they were pushing the idea that you had to renew your season tickets because we were headed to the Big Ten and tickets were going to be scarce. That didn't happen. Tickets will only get easier to land if Flood returns.

By keeping Flood, they are probably losing 10-15,000 non die-hard Rutgers fans who would be attending games if the team was fielding a decent team. That's a lot of money to lose. And we're already seeing die-hards drop the amount of tickets they're taking as well.

When you consider heading back to the Shea era, I think of the empty stadiums first. We had decent teams with Graber but never went bowling. With Schiano we had some decent, some good, but a lot of teams that went bowling. That got people interested. Maybe going from bowling every year to struggling to sneak into a bowl with a 5-7 record will actually make attendance numbers plummet. Like we were at a level that could have (and probably should have) sold out the stadium for EVERY Big Ten matchup, but instead dropped to half full stadiums against competition we could only have dreamed about ten years ago. Worse yet, the one thing keeping the stadium from looking extremely empty are the Big Ten fans of the other team.

I'm still hopeful RU will look at the true financial aspects of keeping Flood. IMO, they aren't pretty.

And apparently NONE of the backup QBs have it going on upstairs either? That's hard to accept.

Sounds to me like you are doing absolutely nothing but throwing shit up against a wall. I don't know what's going on right now - haven't claimed to, either - but you have now, in just a few days, told us the following:

- the words "lack of institutional control" are being thrown around (easily one of the funniest things I've ever heard on these boards...), and now..

- Barchi isn't "blinking"

Essentially you've told us that there is REALLY bad shit going down, at RU, but NOBODY is ever going to find out about it. LOL, yeah, okay! WHICH IS IT BUDDY??? As far as I can tell - and trust me I've tried - RU is on "radio silence" right now and you have done nothing but attempt to mislead this board, one way or the other, for the last few days. Shame, shame, shame.

What's next from you? We'll be waiting.

Barchi does not want to make the spend nor does he have the stomach to potentially expose his athletic department over this report

I certainly believe the reluctance to spend is true. But the idea that whether Flood stays or goes has any bearing on the release of this report, and the idea that retaining him will prevent information getting out is nonsense. Whether OPRA, or a leak, we are going see the relevant information regardless of who is coach.

Just my opinion, I don't think anyone posting here has a real idea of what is going to happen. I have a opinion on what should happen but I also know that does not mean it has much influence on what will happen.

That is such a bizarre "What if" that either you know something or it is a SERIOUS reach.
Either way. if that were true I would still feel the same. It is about production on the field. You don't think there are other successful head cases out there? And when the team scores or wins, I bet a few more players would re-consider their level of support. Besides, who's the coach here?
Does he make the decisions or does the team? That would explain a lot in how soft they are at times.

and at a minimum, given the quality of play. what would flood have to lose ? if it were so bad then folks killing him over this could only say..well he tried. BIG difference.

See, this is where I part ways with many people here. I understand that people will be upset. Why support a program with leaders that don't care? I get it. I really do. But whether we give or not, Flood will get paid. Barchi will get paid. That's not changing. However, the decrease in support will affect plenty of innocent bystanders. Support staff, vendors, basic needs - office supplies, furniture - these expenses rely on donations. I know it's a conundrum. This is why I really hate that the program is being held hostage by a few influential people who managed to insert themselves into the inner circle.

For me it comes down to three simple options
RU tries to be cheap and Fires Flood for cause in that scenario JH has to go as well. Does Barchi want to deal with hiring an AD and a coach?
JH finds the funds to pay Flood his entire buyout and we get news of this Sunday am
JH is inept and can't raise the funds. We do nothing and I have a nice chunk of change to piss away each season until somebody wakes up.

So if you are fed up with cablevsion you aren't going to switch to DirectTV because it will hurt the installers and phone desk? Do you always buy the same car from the same dealer because you want their mechanics to have work?

If we see 10,000 to 15,000 season tickets unsold, that will cost Rutgers anywhere from $7 million to $8 million for that one season. Single game tickets cost a lot more, so we could see them lose a lot more than that!

That is a lot more than what it will cost for fire and then hire brand new coaching staff that is serious about winning.

Is flood so good that he is worth losing millions over? I thought that Rutgers was cash strap? Can they actually afford to lose that much money?

I'm not saying he is going or staying but winning against Army and Maryland is not changing the decision this time. That is why I think the OP's post is just a bunch of b.s. -----
I can see a parallel to the situation of a couple years ago, you may or may not agree....... I go with the assumption first that all crimes have been revealed and dealt with, of course this may not be accurate..... If all incidents have been dealt with, then the decision rests on how the coach performed as the coach..... Then, I would think it is possible two wins at the end of the season might save the job for Flood

Remember RU is not a program that usually fires a coach after a slightly below average season..... The OP here I could be indicating the second investigation results in nothing and then all we look at are wins and losses...

You can hope Julie fires the coach regardless on how we finish...... We shall see..... I for one am not opposed to that IF we could get a top notch coach that excites the fan base.

How so? you aren't happy with a product but won't cancel it because it will effect the support staff? RU athletics is a product, a commodity that we choose to buy. No different than who I get my TV feed from.

Way to avoid the gist of my post. I could be wrong but weren't you one of the guys claiming LC would never "play another down" for us?

Yup. Which would have held true if the victim decided to testify. Did I ever say that I am always right?? I'm only telling you what's coming out from the inside. You want to question my sources? Fine. As I said 6x now in this thread, I HOPE the multiple sources are WRONG. There are quite a few others on here who have heard the SAME thing. Doesn't mean we like it. It is what it is

Okay buddy, whatever you say, no proof whatsoever, but hey just keep throwing stuff against the wall.

Anyway, If we are so close to some form of "lack of institutional control" - again, I can't stop laughing - as YOU claimed just days ago, riddle me this:

How is all this going to be kept quiet and how is nobody going to take the fall? Oh, and by the way, when an EXTERNAL team is hired, to investigate, how on Earth does it become an "internal" investigation, as you claimed earlier in this thread? Please, elaborate, this one should be good too!
