Barchi to Blink (Again)

All I know is that this is worse than 2013. After reading Silencer's OP, I told m
He played on campus in 75 I think it was it 74?

14-Dec-1974 New Brunswick,NJ Rutgers University,
"Bruce guests at a Billy Joel concert on one song. "On December 14, 1974 I attended a Billy Joel concert at Rutgers University (ticket price $4.75). This concert was held in the small gymnasium which was affectionately nicknamed "The Barn". Just before the concert began my friends and myself decided to walk over to the men's locker room that Billy was using as a dressing room to try and snap a few pictures as he emerged to go on-stage. The quickest way to get there was to walk underneath the bleachers that were on the side of the gym. I remember seeing the outline of a scruffy guy sitting huddled up with his back against the wall under the bleachers. I thought it quite odd and that perhaps this guy must be either stoned or drunk since the show was about to begin in minutes and here he was sitting with his back up against the wall in the darkness. During the excellent show Billy paused and dedicated the song "The Entertainer" to his friend and fellow Columbia Recording Artist in the audience - BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN. You could see the Bruce fans scanning the audience looking for that beanie that he used to wear. No luck. For the third encore Billy invited Bruce on-stage to perform an impromptu version of "Twist & Shout". I can remember the feeling of seeing these two performers together on stage knowing that they were both destined to become superstars. (It did not strike me until the next day that the scruffy guy huddled in the shadows under the bleachers; that I was inches away from was in fact Bruce who was trying to keep low key)." Thanks to Jersey Joe for the info."

I want to report a rumor that I heard that reporting rumors we've heard but can't substantiate is silly, but that reacting emotionally to such reported unsubstantiated rumors is rumored to be even sillier.

But I can't substantiate that.
I think you should move your sarcasm meter bar a little more to the right. You've had a couple of good days lately [thumb2]

If we have a written guarantee that Towers is paying the buyout, then the claim that we don't have the $ to fire Flood is 100% false. Don't be stupid & try to fire him for cause. Let him go & let Towers pay the buyout. So with that out of the way, the only $ of concern is how much the school is willing to pay the next coach & whether they want donors to pay for that. Now, we are likely doing what we did in 2013 & trying to hire a new coach with a gun & ski mask & are getting laughed at by agents...

Did Flood collaborate with you on that answer?

Except Flood could not proofread the note, and the agents did not understand why they were pointing a gub at them. . .

I can't reveal my sources at this time other than to say that they are really, really highly placed and therefore I must be super duper important to know them. [smoke]

Apropos of nothing, that emoticon up above? What exactly is it supposed to convey? I'm thinking Hunter S. Thompson, but perhaps that's just a rumor.

I would not be surprised if Barchi softens the report, keeps Flood to save three cents, the full report gets leaked and a media crap storm forces Flood, JH, and Barchi out and we can't hire a new coach until February.

With this admin, the most incompetent solution is the usual one....

There's no chance whatsoever that they will lose 20,000 season tix for next year. They would lose some for sure, and it would hurt. But 20K? I don't think so.

Maybe we'll get an awesome new coaching staff and we'll never find out.

Even 10,000 season ticket holders dropping out means millions of lost revenue to Rutgers.
Will further compound the problem of being able to fund a new staff.

It doesn't even have to be season tickets. Of course, that's the base you're always looking at. But let's say 10-20,000 seats in total are in question (season tix and game day tickets) -- that not only means less revenue but it means RU has to spend that much more in marketing and advertising to hopefully sell the tickets.

And the administration may or may not care, but it likely means more tickets for the fans of the Big Ten team we're playing that day -- another visual that will look awful for the program.

RU slicencer

If you are this big donor that has the info from inside Rutgers ...you have no business reporting it

And, by the way, there are a few people here on this very post who have a lot of "really legit inside info" from inside Rutgers walls and never bring it to any public forum as it's not the place to do so

If you have info from outside of Rutgers, about RU that a different story....otherwise think about what you write before you do

We all love the scoop ...but not at the expense of hurting the program we all are here to support

That is such a bizarre "What if" that either you know something or it is a SERIOUS reach.
Either way. if that were true I would still feel the same. It is about production on the field. You don't think there are other successful head cases out there? And when the team scores or wins, I bet a few more players would re-consider their level of support. Besides, who's the coach here?
Does he make the decisions or does the team? That would explain a lot in how soft they are at times.

and at a minimum, given the quality of play. what would flood have to lose ? if it were so bad then folks killing him over this could only say..well he tried. BIG difference.

Yea, I agree with you. And I wanted to see Rettig in there. And I've asked many people "why not Rettig?" I'll leave it at that.

Nailed it! Most likely outcome, right there.

fair enough. I'd take Giovanni Resigno (sp) for a quarter here or there then. Or the wildcat. or just running on three straight downs cause I can't stand anymore 2 yard passes.

Someone mentioned, within this thread, something to the effect "It's only football...". Anyone who has this mindset and doesn't understand that successful college football is a major way that alumni connect or re-connect to their school is ignorant. Alumni support through ticket sales and donations, not just to athletics, are part of a successful business model that has been proven over and over again across the nation. Any administrator that doesn't recognize this should be fired and any state representative that does not recognize this should be voted out of office.

Since I was the one, I do understand that football can have a positive impact on the school. That does not make Barchi the worst RU president. He has many other areas on which he will be judged.

Just as I would not want a professor who believed that the world was flat teaching at our university, I do not want administrators who don't recognized this proven reality. It speaks to their utter misunderstanding of the University - Alumni relationship and the value of putting a positive face on the University. Yes he and the rest mentioned should be judged on this.

If we see 10,000 to 15,000 season tickets unsold, that will cost Rutgers anywhere from $7 million to $8 million for that one season. Single game tickets cost a lot more, so we could see them lose a lot more than that!

That is a lot more than what it will cost for fire and then hire brand new coaching staff that is serious about winning.

Is flood so good that he is worth losing millions over? I thought that Rutgers was cash strap? Can they actually afford to lose that much money?

We will not see a 30% (10,000) to 50% (15,000) decline in season tickets, not even close. The most we lose is 5,000, which is still unacceptable.

8081...business model yes, but 'successful' is debatable and most certainly not proven. Athletics aren't cheap and the administration needs to draw the line somewhere, independent of where Michigan's line is, for example.

You are completely wrong suggesting other model which funnels more assets toward football is a guaranteed win for the university as a whole. You have no idea.

What are our revenues compared to other schools ?
Our costs compared ?
Merger debt and bond rating ?

Barchi and the board know what the university can afford. You don't.

Those who give up their season tickets do so at their own peril. So we have another bad year in 2016 and then they make a change to a big time coach, you will want those seat locations back, but it will be to late, your loss.

No one is giving up their season tickets, and losing the priority points and senority that comes with consecutive years as a season ticket holder.

We will lose a boatload of season tickets if Flood is coach next year. I'll put it right where Shack does, about 5K, and I know my group - steady at 25 for 10 years now - will lose 4-8 tickets.

and that mentality is why we are in the mess that we are in.

Fans shouldn't support a crappy product.

No matter how many times you repeat that, it won't make it true.

I'm sorry, but I believe it is true, especially for long time ticket holders.

No one who has spent a lot of money and years building up senority/priority points will stop buying their season tickets and lose all of that because of a coach coming back for another year.

If he comes back it will be for a year, a year in which he either does it or not.

No one will not renew over one year, and if they don't they are foolish, giving up all they have earned to start at zero all over again.

No one's giving up BTN.

One end zone ticket is $305 including donation. For that $305 ticket I can keep all 32 of my priority points (a $3200 value) get priority access to Penn State & Michigan tickets & be towards the front of the line when a coaching change is made.
