Bashir Ahmed, top JUCO in 2016, takes unofficial to Rutgers

Some video footage on youtube from HS, looks like another long athlete that Eddie appears to be going after:

open starting small forward position, close to home, play with teammate Deshawn Freeman..

This would be a homerun get for Eddie and would really solidify our starting lineup with a wing scorer that i don't think we've had in who knows how long.

I usually am not a fan of bringing in Jucos. I thought Freeman, however, was a very good get. I think Ahmed is potentially even better. Talented kid who has a fair amount of toughness as well. Would improve the team's overall talent level a fair amount.

Freeman to me was a must get. We just need to get talented players and turn this around.

When the winning starts then things will fall into place.

Ahmed has a campus and enoug diversity that RU is known for to provide a great location to grow as a person and player. I know this is a basketball decision first, but there is also a potential transition period that bears watching. I don't know if a timeline has been set, but I'd like to think Freeman's arrival does not hurt at all.

The biggest misconception was the hiring of Shoes Vetrone being laughed at....In less than 12 months, without as much help as I would like, he's made RU relevant on the recruiting trail, without a lot of the fanfare and hype of being named or listed in every media article for certain players...a "shark", doesn't necessarily show itself each time he eats, but does get enough meals to get certain kids in the building.

This doesn't mean anything but I maintained RU and Shoes were constantly working on Freeman, and many others just assumed as other school tried to get in late, that "those bigger name schools/coaches elsewhere" would land Freeman. I see this recruitment going the same way....other schools certainly will do well at the HS level and eventually RU and Ahmed may turn out to be the best match long and short term.

Ahmed and Kwe Parker would be a tandem of athletes/players to wish for.....There isn't much more one could ask for as RU is involved and in the running for both....getting one of Parker and Ahmed would be outstanding, getting both would register on richter scale of a true change in climate at RU for the foreseeable future.

Would be a great get. Hopefully Freeman can help us out.

Being from the Bronx sure, like everyone said SJU is the leader.

Would be a huge get. Lengthy and has the size for the position.

Gotta sell a supportive diverse background at Rutgers, especially the muslim community here, playing time, and the big ten.

Also, having kids from Africa on the roster. SJU has players at his position already.

This kid is a great player. Sanders, Williams, Ahmed, Freeman, Diallo? That is a starting five with backup that would do business in the big ten.

Is this kid the same class as Freeman (i.e. he will be here next year) or is this the year after?

If we got this kid we could be a gret team. If not, average.

He is pretty darn good.Super humble, too.

Freemans gotta help us out. Ahmed is a hutchinson CC product just like Deshawn Freeman was.

Read hawks post above. Getting either or both of Kwe Parker and Bashire Ahmed would be a game changer.

I like a backcourt of Sanders and Williams. Sanders is a high level athlete, Foreman is a high level athlete. We need some fundamental guys now. If Parker is that guy though, sign him.

These high athletes though come with a price. If you're jumping through the gym your knees start to keep you up at night.

I haven't been this excited in bball recruiting in a long time! I'm glad this excitement is taking place with Jordan - who I love to see succeed right here at Rutgers!

No way Greg Lewis doesn't start.

No way Greg Lewis doesn't start.

I just recall saying if Diallo was eligible EJ thought he was one of the top five. GL has made huge strides, but 5 and 4 at the 4/5 position doesn't solidify a starting spot. It's big improvement, but it doesn't shout "That's mine".That's all I am saying. I like his play, too. I think this year is improvement in some spots because we have some better ball handlers on the floor and an upgrade in free throwing shooting from Jack to Freeman. If we run three guard sets we should be able to keep the ball in our hands more with Williams and Grier, and make foul shots more with Freeman and GL.

I think in beginning of season Greg will be the starter.
But Diallo or Doorson might wind up the starter by the end of season.
If Lewis keeps on improving the way he has been, those other 2 might have to wait till next year to fight it out for
the starting C spot.
