BB practice facility plans this summer - JH

Good maybe some of you malcontents on twitter can lay off...and the worshipping of Lesniak is comical ...you are giving him far too much credit

It started with him and politi. This was dead after the court club meeting. I will praise anyone who wants to help.

How was this started by Lesniak and Politi when RAC improvements and a practice facility are part of the University Master Plan presented to the BOG in early February?

Sorry but you people who think Julie is sitting around all day counting beans all day are dead wrong....too many people talking out of their asses like babies

But before this you said her hands were tied. People at RU are getting embarrassed into action. And that is what was missing before.

>"One concept that seems be gaining traction, according to those familiar
with the evolving plan, is an "athlete's village" near High Point
Solutions Stadium. A new headquarters would be built for football, which
would vacate the Hale Center for use by other sports. A basketball
practice facility would be part of the village."<

The rules to get things done for athletics changed when McCormick left.
Now instead of acquiring debt to build a facility the AD has been told to only use the funds available and also has to reduce income ( subsidies) making it harder to find the funding needed to give the Basketball Programs the much needed practice facilty that would help make both WBB & MBB more attractive to the recruits both programs were going after.

Hermann wasn't talking about giving up, just explaining what is going on and not BSing about it.

If the plans that do come out and nothing significant happens for another 5-10 years, then it is a failure by all involved. Those in charge and those pressuring from the outside. If the plan comes out and action begins in 1-2 years, then it will be kudos to all involved. I couldn't care less who gets credit. But a plan where nothing happens for many years is a disaster.

I don't think that she is sitting around all day. I think that she is working hard but the fans deserve that somebody from the University (whether Julie or someone else) speaks with urgency and substance about a plan. The fans deserve nothing less.

Honestly, who cares about a plan if it's not actually going to happen? One of the reasons people are so low is the fact that we've had multiple "plans" presented over the years and nothing has happened. I could care less what the plan is, I just want to know the financing is in place to get some shovels in the ground.

I still think that Julie got a bad rap for being honest at the Court Club meeting. I'd rather have honesty at this point than sunshine bubbles and plans.

dude give it a rest...how many times are you going to say the same thing....DESPITE no evidence that its going to be 10 years..yet you keep it saying, just like you keep saying Julie has given up which are Politis words...so why don't you two get a room together and plot out what you are going to do.

I am understanding a thing about twitter, it seems like they do not have a sense of timeframe and want some immediate tweet or soundbyte to feel better.

when we go into the future and nothing happens, then bash away because I think we all be but geez give this some time...its not like there is tons of money sitting around where they can snap their fingers and immediately put shovels in the ground

That's why it needs to be public. You're right yelping about it here does no good. That's why you need reporters and politicians to keep up the pressure

I am in agreement with ruman. This thing was dead and Julie said as much in the meeting. She may have had a plan but it was not happening. It took Lesniak to make things happen. That's a fact.

BAC,

Could you be any further up Hermann's rear?

Google is your friend. The first day in the B1G she says she is working on a plan. In November she says she will decide which plan and choose the one that can be funded and go public with it shortly after. Now she says she's announcing the plan this summer.

Since I understand English, she should be announcing the plan that was vetted and can be funded this summer, just as she committed to do the day we entered the B1G.

Outside having plans for the plans to be announced, what has Lesniak make happen?

Much was going on behind the scenes prior to the CC meeting, I assure you.

The press generated by a single line helped spur things perhaps, but JH wasn't sitting on her hands.

Ultimately, while I didn't hear much of what she said that night at our meeting, the furor over it may end up being the best news for Rutgers Basketball in a long time.

Credit where credit is due to Hermann if positive change for the program comes sooner rather than later....as a basketball first fan, that's the only thing that matters to me. JH will always have my support as long as she remains in charge of MY athletic department

Squeezing blood from stones at this point. Programs like the lax program should fold tents if they get any less funding.

Prior to Lesniak's letter, Rutgers had already included RAC improvement in the master plan, and Rutgers had determined that funding needed to come from donations and/or public/private partnership.

But Lesniak's letter seemed to spur discussion of the need for a practice facility, which could lead to people making the necessary donations, or the state helping as part of a public/private partnership. We'll see if any of that happens. But even if it doesn't, at least Lesniak's letter help publicize the need for basketball facility improvements which could help diminish opposition when plans are announced.

Let's just hope the "plan" isn't to have shovels in the ground 5-7 years from now.

Amen to that. I just hope that we get some substantial information in the very near future as to the approximate time plan for when work can finally begin. None of us are getting any younger and we have suffered for way too many years.

there's a small fundraising plan. Sell shovels painted with your name and how much you donated...then you get to plant it in the ground yourself in a special area outside the RAC..

It might be.

The issue of funding hasn't been solved by anyone. Unless the donations start rolling in, the viable option may be to tie RAC construction to the Research District construction (using revenue from the Research District to pay for the RAC). But that means there also need to be plans in place for the Research District. Even if this happens quickly (like the new Business building and Livingston Plaza retail & housing), it is still a few years.

Maybe the athletic administration should come out with an announcement spelling out exactly what is needed in funding and where to send the money so that all donated funds go exactly for the purpose of a new facility. They need to put up a large thermometer showing the amount of money needed and how much has been raised. We need to see that some progress is being made. This just might get many others to contribute too as well as corporate or state money. When we hear nothing for like 3 years we think we are stuck in quicksand.

Maybe they can wrap the funding for the RAC into a larger bond issue for this project.

Edit: I see Upstream already suggested that.

Although I do think even then, RU would likely require a relatively high amount of the overall funding for the basketball facility to come from donors.
