Ben Black

Two very good receptions and one bad miss. Awkward catch coming into his head but should have had. I think he’ll be a star and is a new addition to the line up which is great.

Yeah the drop was brutal . But man he came back with that td reception on a very difficult play. Gotta like that resiliency

Learn from this loss and let’s go out to USC at 6-1
Dream on. I tried to pump things up but the inconsistency o this program is too much. Notice that I said "Of the program" not just of the team.RU has a very long way to go to become a decent team. With a few exceptions such as 1976. And 2006. and 1961 RU has been on the lower levels of run of the mill programs for as long as I can remember. Too bad and sad. But too true

We get it.... GW would have run it down the field and handed it to him perfectly.

Huh?

Pass hit WR in the helmet and pads - announcer even said so.
Could have been caught better maybe but there was no "drop."

It’s classified as a “drop” for the advanced metrics. My son had butter fingers last night in his AAU hoops game and totally mishandled an easy back door cut pass out of bounds. He didn’t “drop” it either but the ball certainly wasn’t poorly thrown. It wasn’t possible for that particular ball to be placed better. The pass was just missed.

Can anyone explain to me why Dremel who caught 36 passes last year for 468 yards and 3 TDs isn't even out there when a possession guy would be so damn helpful? Talk about taking a proven tool and removing him from the options. WTF?!

Well, he was out there letting punts bounce behind him

Miller is better.

I have no idea what "advanced metrics" are and don't want to learn.
I've posted many times here that its harder to see out of a football helmet than most people realize.
A WR Looking "back and up" can have a hard time seeing peripherally with helmet sides in the way.
Black was probably looking up for ball when it was much lower/closer.
He was probably surprised to get hit by ball

Mahomes wears his helmet extra high because he can see better.
I'm long surprised more players dont do the same.
I look at Aaaron Lewis' helmet and I can't believe RU managers think that's a well fitting helmet (imagine if he was a WR)

Oh yeah. So is Ajani Shepard. I didn't think we were only allowed to have one or the other. Stupid me. We've got such an amazing pass cathing group.
Coaches made their decision after watching them during spring and summer. They play our best

OK Mr. USC of the east. You're such a homer. I got 52 years invested here and I regret that I will not to live to see you come around 1 day to realty.
BTW..what's today's excuse on that kick? Wind, Crowd noise, jock too tight, upright too thick?

I appreciate your support for this but I have WAY too many years of this BS... carry on. You're a great fan.

Pass me the crack pipe. You spin up some of the nuttiest conspiracy theories on the planet, so not surprised that you've figured out some way to not call this a drop. It's 1000% a drop because it was perfectly thrown and he let it hit him in the pads/helmet instead of catching the ball.

He goes out of his way to sack AK.

To open last season Dremel was used for the quick hits across middle zone,
After September teams had scouting and he never caught another TD.
Oct, Nov, Dec = 0 TDs
He has good hands but he's not Tim Brown fast to get downfield.
Defenses could slam him near box and he was very weak with contested balls.
He had to be in isolation to make most catches
D3 is full of undersized WRs with good hands

"Perfectly thrown" balls dont hit WR running long in the helmet/shoulder (announcers are in on my conspiracy since they said same thing). Nobody can "drop" something not in their hands. Of course I understand some people these days have trouble with definitions

Not perfectly thrown. Underthrown and on the wrong side of the wr but with no db there the wr needs to adjust and make the catch.

It obviously wasn’t Athan’s best day but in fairness, it’s not like Nebraska’s “star” QB had a great day battling the wind gusts either. He’s normally over 70% accurate and hit only 50% of his passes.

Athan threw 2 picks vs Nebraska’s 1, but the first one doesn’t really count in my opinion because it was what he’s supposed to do in that situation. On 4th down, an interception is basically like a short punt so if your about to eat sacked throwing it up with some hang time to ensure it’s not a pick 6,

Get off the internet old man.

That's a ridiculous nitpick. It was thrown in stride and an easy catch if the WR simply turns his body slightly. The drop is 100% on Black.

Sure every play is easy with "adjustments."
WR was so surprised by ball he turned his head away from it.
He never located it and never touched it.
If you ladies want to keep calling it a "drop" I cant help it.
I also never mentioned AK - who I said was making some nice long throws in 4th Q (instead of the usual 4 yarders).

10:36 "ball just bounces off his helmet and shoulder".

His hands clearly touch the ball

You have no effing clue what you're talking about. There's not a coach or WR in the world who says that isn't 100% on the WR.
