when was this? 10 years ago they went 37-2 including an epic title game loss vs UNC in a clash of the 2 best teams in the country. Since then they have been pretty consistently mediocre and have only won 3 NCAA tournament games in that decade.Originally posted by G- RUnit:
Just a few years ago they were close to Final Four good.
That was 2004/5 season when they started 37-1 and were flat out dominant with Deron Williams, Dee Brown, and Luther Head. And that team wasn't "almost Final Four good", they were head and shoulders better than every other team in the country except UNC and they got upset by UNC in the finals.Originally posted by RUforJERSEY:
He must mean when they had Deron Williams and that other guard who never really made it in the pros but had more hype in college.
They had a ridiculous comeback versus Arizona in the tourny that year (either final four or elite eight game) where they were down around 15 with 2:30 to go and won.Originally posted by blockm2:

The 2005 Final Four was the only FF I've ever been fortunate enough to attend. The city of St. Louis was taken over by the Illinois faithful that weekend. It was a rare championship game in that the price of a ticket for the title game on Monday night was just as expensive as the semifinals on Saturday. Usually the price dips tremendously for the finale because fans of two of the teams are gone, but St. Louis was a short drive for Illini fans. They showed up by the boatload.
Yes they did. They finished the season #1 in KenPom's final ratings including a 17-2 record vs top 50 competition and 8-1 vs top 25 competition. They were undefeated until being upset by OSU in their regular season finale. Aside from that OSU loss, they only had 1 other conference game decided by fewer than 10 points (and 1 other game the entire season). They basically blew everybody out for almost the entire season.Originally posted by heygents:
