College basketball showcase in Atlantic City, December 15. Interesting group of teams for quadrupleheader: Temple vs. Davidson, Iona vs. Princeton, Penn State vs. North Carolina State, Virginia Tech vs. Washington. Casino Redevelopment Authority of Atlantic City (CRDA) Chairman Robert Mulcahy (yes, that Robert Mulcahy) is quoted in this article.

Hopefully, December 15 is the date of our game with Seton Hall! The Hall is the caliber of opponent we need to compete for media coverage over the quadrupleheader.

I believe dec 15 is the date of our game with seton hall. Bad planning or the Atlantic City folks don't care. Probably the latter and if so probably eliminated some fans from making the trek as I may have gone if not for our seton hall game.

definitely would have as well.

People of the AC area think they are in Pennsylvania.
Same problem we have with most of southern New Jersey;
the TV coverage is Philadelphia based.

That's sad that they are so easily brainwashed and gullible

Nobody is brainwashed and gullible. Southern New Jersey always will be in Philadelphia's orbit. Is that any worse than northern New Jersey being in New York's? Rutgers should transcend both. It doesn't, for reasons that have been discussed at length for a very long time.

Not counting school, I have lived in three states, and ALL of them had sharp north-south splits. It's not that strange. Our issue is the split comes with two of the largest media markets in the country, which only serves to sharpen the division.

Perhaps, as we recruit South Jersey and improve our overall performance in athletics, Rutgers will be the entity that bridges the gap. But I wouldn't expect Atlantic City to suddenly worry about what is going on two-plus hours away when scheduling events. That, and it's not that easy finding a date for eight schools to come together for basketball when none of them are at home.

No, I'm right.

I'm not talking about pro sports here.

South Jersey should support their home school state university, not one all the way out in Central PA

Where I live in Ocean City its mostly Villanova and PSU fans. I rarely see any RU flags or shirts. Its not unexpected as Philly area residents take over our town for the summer. Its an hour drive from philly so it makes sense. I'm still a little disappointed RU is not playing in this tourney.

We don’t know how the planning occurred. Maybe they did reach out to RU and the schedules didn’t mesh.

As for south jersey and Rutgers you need to get over it. South jersey is a Philly suburb and North Jersey is an NYC suburb. They’re going to support Philly sports (like I do). The only reason I’m an RU fan is because I went there. That’s just the way it is and you’re going to have to get over it.

RU is a Jersey school /team

Not NY, not Philly

South Jersey is New Jersey, not Central PA

Pen St is not a Philly school

You realize there are a $hit ton of PSU fans in Central and North Jersey as well, don’t you?

Alums yes, but not fans for the hell of it like you see too many times in SJ.

It's very odd that people in South Jersey with no ties to Central PA University identify with them as their home team.

It just doesn't make any sense .

There are a lot of non alums rooting for PSU in central/north jersey as well. Not as many as in south jersey but there still are too many.

A large majority of the folks who own houses and go down to the south jersey beaches come from Philly and the PA suburbs so that’s another reason why you see so many PSU and Nova down there during the summer.

Also, the Philadelphia tv and news market covers PSU. Rutgers made some in roads with coverage during the 2006 season but until Rutgers starts winning they won’t be getting a lot of coverage down here...or winning over many casual fans up and down the state.

I don't know anyone aside from alums that root for Pen St up here

I think you need to get out more then. I have 2 friends who I attended RU with who were from North of New Brunswick who grew up PSU fans with no affiliation and still rooted for them during our years at RU.

And why do the thousands of students/alums from central/north jersey that attend(ed) PSU get a free pass in your eyes?...just because they’re students or alums doesn’t make them any better.

I've done an unofficial survey of college swag worn on the AC boardwalk the last three summers. Penn State, Villanova and Temple are what I see the most.

But I'm not making this up--> each summer there's been more Rutgers...

Use your head...it’s about media markets. Philly covers Pennsylvania teams including Penn St. Many radio personalities are also PSU alum. South jersey gets Philly tv and radio channels so that’s what they are exposed to. This really isn’t rocket science.

This really bothers me. Don't care about markets. There are 4 games. being played Rutgers should be in one of them. Why would you give Penn State more exposure? PSU has really turned a crappy basketball program around with kids from Philly.
For all you guys who say the "Phillie market controls Sojuth Jersey".Let Pennsylvania bail out AC next time they come asking for money.
New Jersey's State University should be there.Dont know all the details but unless RU declined, Mulcahy should be ashamed of himself.https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.playnj.com/news/atlantic-city-rescue-bills-passed/4931/amp/
