Bring back Schiano, please

Gs is the perfect fit...disciplinarian,recruiter, big name coach...I also believe he will be a better game day coach...he has talked alot about situational football in recent articles...........if anyone has a better candidate I'm all ears. .

I still think the guy can't do the X and Os, but....

HELL FROZE OVER

Moz wants GS back

Put it this way, I'm not a big donor, but from fan perspective.... If flood is back I downgrade from 5 season tickets to 2 or none. If Schiano is here, I keep all 5.

Louisville took back Petrino. Why not.

Maybe you should check out the Louisville crowd now. Petrino's team is 0-2 and for most it usually comes down to wins and losses. Don't think Schiano would have any interest in coming back to RU with the current leadership. Schiano is shrewd and would want all kinds of organizational support...which he knows he won't get at RU.

I have full faith that Brown and Towers can pay GS the salary required. At least , I hope someone if willing to pony up.
If they can pony up more money, hopefully we can do better than Schiano. Again, I thank Greg for all he did. He built the foundation. He just wasn't the guy to take us to the next level. People forget he was tired of the negative press. That was one reason he booked for the NFL. Do you think the press will be any better to him the 2nd time around?

Greg Brown is the X factor.
Schiano's sons are linebackers at a prestigious private school in Tampa.
As a transplant, it is very tough to head back north....... But $$$ talks.

schiano messed up the offense being too involved and hands-on. Way too conservative with all that talent from 2006 until he left. He clearly was molding his teams like Joe Pa. Look at all the NfL talent on those teams. However, his defenses were always respectable and at times very good - except in 2010 (which was an aberration) and he was badly outcoached by Kelly when Cincy had the two BCS years. 2012 would have been his best defensive squad. I would have mixed feelings if GS was coming back, although I would have hope that he has matured as a HC and would do even a better job the 2nd time around. Having said that, I dont think he would come back - unless they threw crazy $ at him.

Moz - all lies. You were the biggest Schiano critic. No way you want him back!

P.S. We miss you at the tailgates!

I'm tired of this crap. I kind of wanted Flood out at the end of his horrible 2nd year, but then he did redeem himself, for the most part, with last year's 8-5 season. However, his complete loss of control of the players on this team are worse than any mediocre records or recruiting - all of that hard work by Schiano (and Mulcahy, to a large extent) to build a model program with a competitive football team, great academic performance, and strong discipline, in which our players almost universally were model citizens, has been undone.

I'd go back to all of that, under Schiano, in a heartbeat. This is a man we'll be erecting statues to, one day, for taking the most downtrodden, abysmal program in the US of A, and building it into a program that was the envy of many and far more successful than anything seen On the Banks since RU went "big time." We wouldn't have our beautiful new stadium or be in the B1G without Greg's energy, enthusiasm, dedication, discipline and vision. I so want that back. He had flaws, especially as a gameday coach, but anyone who read his inteview with SI after his Tampa Bay tour of duty knows that he actually learned a lot about himself by his failure there, and I think he'd come back here and do even better than he did in his first tour.

One last tidbit, which I debated posting last weekend when I heard it, but will now, in light of even more troubles with our program (and the Carroo news is going to be ugly). Last weekend, I had a conversation about the then just-announced arrests of 5 RU players (1 for the home invasions and 4 for the fight/riot) with a very, very (did I say very?) highly placed Rutgers source, who has intimate knowledge of the past 10-15 years of RU sports and Schiano's contributions. His comment was an unequivocal, "that kind of crap would've never happened under Greg's watch - NEVER." Whether we like Greg's micromanaging or not, one of the benefits was that he and the staff truly were all over these kids and helped keep them from getting involved in this kind of stuff and we never had to feel embarrassed by program, especially off the field. You totally stole my thunder...i was going to post the same thing almost verbatim

Nailed it.

We will find out soon how much pull Greg brown has around here

You do know if Schiano became coach he would probably keep McDaniels as OC. Don't forget he was recommended to Flood by Belichick. A personal friend of Schiano's. Schiano could hire whoever he wants as DC but you know he would be running the show. Just would have to hope he learned from past mistakes and would let McDaniels run his own offense.

Put me in the "Yes" camp.

Always liked GS from an even keel point. No coach and I mean no coach from Knute Rockne down could have done what he did. Right man for the right time. Whatever, Jersey,Italian, Christian, Miami, Young, everything he DEMANDED in terms of acedemics, All you folks who have suffered with me 35 years and/or a lot longer get this. Discipline in the pros? When an NFL player (insert PC noun/adjective here when not suspended/in jail/on probation) make 3x the head coaches's salary you can't change the culture. Just ask fellow bro Lovie Smith, the anti GS savior. Makes GS look like Tom effing Landry.

Never thought I'd say it but....It's Time.

I love how he supposedly did everything with smoke and mirrors and yet had a pretty great record in bowl games. If we only reached bowl games because of creampuff schedules, why didn't those teams get beat in the bowls?
Do you even remember who Rutgers beat in those bowls? Kansas State, Ball State, NC State, UCF, and Iowa State. Not exactly Murderer's Row.

91 do you remember struggling against Colgate, Temple and Villinova? Get a historic view.

if schiano then bye bye julie and we know that's not happening--yet

I don't know if I would like Schiano to come back or not but I would compare it to getting thrown a life preserver while floating by yourself in the middle of the ocean. You worry about what kind of ship you climb onboard after you make sure you are no longer in danger of drowning.

If the situation ends up being as bad as rumored, the first thing that is the most important is to do is grab that life preserver. Although I NEVER thought I would even consider bringing back GS but it may be the best out of a bunch of undesirable options.

God how awful is that realization?

I've met every Rutgers Head Coach since I've been alive. Actually I take that back. I never met Graber. Every one of them, even at a golf outing, has a certain hard look in their eye. Greg has it. Dick Anderson could just simply look at you and you would do what you were told (and I was just a ball boy).

I've met Flood. He doesn't have that look. Maybe I'm just getting older or something, but he just doesn't have the same look in his eyes.

I don't want Schiano but if it happens I'd support him and pray he learned his lesson. There was a reason nobody wanted to work for him and he needs to let others do their jobs.
Don't know if no one wanted to work for him is right.
Seemed to have had some follow him to the pros and while at Rutgers , most stayed on and some came back after leaving.

I wouldn't go by Mark D'Onofrio , but I guess some might agree with him.
Might be wrong , but think most of Schiano's assistants were loyal to him and heard that PJ Fleck praised him.

edit: but not sure if bringing Greg back would be the right move from a coaching standpoint.
Reputation and PR wise. might be a good move.

GS had one problem, he never hired an OC who could be independent enough to be left alone. He didn't have a clue about offense and yet meddled in it. After his stint in Tampa, he admitted he was a micro manager and he needed to change.

But one thing that kept getting repeated here that is simply not true is this urban legend that Greg couldn't coach. INCORRECT. Greg knows defense. Even in Tampa, Tampa was one of the few teams that gave Seattle fits during their Super Bowl run. Is it a wonder that the D has gone backwards ever since he left?

With Greg running the D and with an OC like Fridge, Rutgers would become a force to contend with in the B1G.

We're not playing Colgate and Villanova any more. Schiano did a good job getting the program to a certain level, but I don't think he'd fare so well in the B1G. People get excited about Schiano recruiting in the B1G because he's a rock star. They're forgetting that Meyer and Harbaugh are about three times the rock star that Schiano is and that's who he'll be recruiting against. Not to mention D'antonio who's become one, too. I think bringing Schiano back at best puts Rutgers in a holding pattern. I'd rather we try to find someone who can move things forward instead.

GS was young, ambitious and full of ideas. He has coached in the NFL. He's had adversity and time to reflect. He's still young. We thought Flood could grow into the HC position. Why not GS with much more experience?

Was GS actually seen at Newark Airport last week, or was that just a rumor?

I am an original Schiano supporter who has always thought he would come back at some point.

The Flood era has had many ups and downs and ultimately I was becoming a fan. Unfortunately, I don't believe he will be able to survive this whether it's deserved or not. LC by all accounts is an all around stand up young man who just made an egregious mistake that may alter any future he had in the pros. It's a shame and Coach Flood doesn't deserve it but a firing is what's needed.

Bring back the disciplinarian who has said he has learned from many of his coaching mistakes. We desperately need it now for recruiting purposes in order to maintain this ship or this program may return to levels of obscurity we haven't seen in more than a decade.

For players to tell LC not to go outside and participate in the fight and for their captain not to listen has cost them their best player. It is unbelievably short sighted and a disappointment. It will look like Coach Flood failed these kids but the reality is they failed their coach and will cost him his job. He believed and trusted them so much that he attempted in every way to be the polar opposite of his predecessor and now it seems like the school needs that predecessor back in the worst way.

Well said gnamour.

JQ Dose of reality. Nobody available to RU in that rock star universe (BTW D'Antonio was a rock star long ago who Chip Kelly rode his coattails, albeit on 3 pass interference calls). You lack even the short term perspective. If those coaches are 3 times the rock star then what is Flood (who I like and admire)? A dude playing at the local salad bar between olive changes? GS has stain, living room presence and NFL ties.

Bac - I expected more from you. Schiano never won the Big East. He was a poor game day coach. He is not the answer. He got tired of being here and took his payday. I thank him for all he did, but anybody but Schiano.
I love when guys say stupid sh1t like this that have never coached a Pop Warner game and couldn't understand a game plan if it was explained in explicit detail. give it up.

Exactly! Schiano has the gravitas on the recruiting trail and runs a clean well disciplined program and could come in tmw. No brainer!
