Just took down #1 Villanova. Question is are these kids all 4 stars? They shot lights out at the foul line and hit every important 3 pointer. Defense was also awesome.

I know they have a nice basketball history but how are they doing it? Is it coaching ?

3 stars and JUCO's with good coaching and a great tradition and home court advantage.

And a crazy story - just last week their plane on the way home lost an engine and had to make an emergency landing .. players coaches were crying thinking it was the end. Landed in Pittsburgh I think and bussed back to Indy. Now they go and take down #1. Good for those guys.

Every year there are schools like Butler and Creighton that have the right combination of coaching, talent and fan support to upset top ten ranked teams.I remember Rutgers defeating Florida with Eli Carter scoring 30 points.

Butler's fieldhouse, Hinkle, is an absolute gem. Good move by that conference to take them even though it's not a Catholic school. Figures. When it comes to basketball, they know what they're doing.

Programs like that, in addition to the positives above, attract a certain type of player. Guys who make "winning plays". Guys who make great plays off the ball offensively and defensively. Guys with great touch and who anticipate passing lanes. Guys who know where each teammate likes to score and how to get them good looks there.

To me there are just so many things you can't see by just looking at a highlight tape that make great players. We seem to attract the guys who never have to think before the put the ball on the floor in high school - then they get here and when there athleticism alone isn't enough they can't do a thing.

Stream of conciosuness over. Not sure what I'm getting at, but whatever.

I would expect our current staff to recruit more of these types of players, whereas our former staff hardly gave this types of kids a look.
